The reliable fix is a staged check rather than one universal setting: confirm service availability, meet the PC requirements, update the graphics driver, remove heat and software conflicts, then improve the local network connection. If the problem remains, collect evidence for Activision or your internet service provider.
Do this first: identify the failure and check service status
Write down exactly what happens. A brief hitch with audio or frame pacing usually points to rendering performance; a return to the desktop, freeze, or error message is a crash; the in-game packet-burst indicator, rubber-banding, or delayed hit registration points to the connection path. You can experience more than one symptom at once, but each needs a different test.

1. Check whether Black Ops 7 services are available
Open Activision’s online-services status page before changing your PC. If the platform indicator is not green or an alert is displayed, local troubleshooting cannot restore the service; wait for the outage or maintenance to end. When the indicator is green, continue with the checks below. This prevents you from treating a server incident as a graphics or router fault.

- Note the mode, map, and approximate time of the stutter, crash, or packet-burst warning.
- Capture the exact crash message or an image of the network warning.
- Record whether the issue affects only Black Ops 7 or other online games and applications.
- For network symptoms, note whether other people are streaming, downloading, or uploading on the same connection.
Confirm that the PC is ready for Black Ops 7
Activision’s 2026 requirements list an SSD, Windows 10 or 11, DirectX 12 compatibility, TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, a broadband connection, and an AVX-capable Intel or AMD processor. Falling below the minimum can cause poor frame pacing, instability, or inability to launch; meeting the minimum does not make the recommended 60-FPS target automatic.

The 116 GB figure is free space required on an SSD, not the drive’s advertised capacity. If the game cannot satisfy that prerequisite, free space or install it on an SSD before diagnosing performance. Adding storage solves a readiness problem; it is not a guaranteed cure for every stutter.
Check the platform features
- Use a 64-bit edition of Windows.
- Confirm that the processor supports AVX.
- Confirm DirectX 12 compatibility.
- Check that TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are enabled as required by the current PC specification.
- Use broadband internet for online modes.
Activision’s published requirements can change. Treat the versions and figures on the current requirements page as the authority for your edition and date rather than assuming an older specification still applies.
How to fix Black Ops 7 stuttering on PC
Stuttering is inconsistent frame delivery: the average frame rate may look acceptable while individual frames arrive late. Work through software and thermal causes before buying hardware.

Update the graphics driver, then retest
The requirements page checked for this guide lists AMD driver 25.12.1, NVIDIA desktop/notebook driver 591.59 (workstation 582.08), and Intel driver 32.0.101.8531. These numbers are volatile, so check Activision’s current page and the GPU maker’s release notes on the day you troubleshoot. Install the driver appropriate to your exact GPU and Windows edition, restart the PC, and reproduce the same mode or map. If a newer approved driver is listed later, use that instead of treating the versions above as permanent.
Reduce heat and background load
Activision identifies heat and competing applications as crash and gameplay risks. Before launching the game, close browsers, launchers, recording utilities, and other programs that consume CPU, GPU, memory, or disk time. Keep the PC’s vents unobstructed and make sure fans can move air. A laptop should be used on a hard surface rather than bedding. These are reversible changes: if the stutter disappears when background work stops or temperatures fall, add applications back one at a time to find the conflict.
Remove overlays, recording tools, and input remappers
Disable or uninstall overlays, capture or recording tools, and input-remapping software while testing. Activision specifically warns that these categories can interfere with boot or gameplay. Do not assume an overlay is harmless because it is not visible; exit its background process as well. Test a clean launch, then re-enable one tool at a time if you need it. This identifies the conflicting program without permanently removing unrelated software.

Tell rendering stutter from network hitching
If the picture pauses while offline or in a local practice situation, concentrate on the GPU, CPU, memory, storage, heat, and background software. If the frame appears smooth but players teleport, shots register late, or a packet-burst icon appears, use the network procedure instead. Changing graphics settings cannot repair packets lost between your PC and the game service.
Why Black Ops 7 keeps crashing on PC—and the safest order of fixes
Check requirements and free SSD space
Confirm the processor, graphics card, RAM, VRAM, Windows edition, DirectX 12 support, TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, AVX support, and 116 GB of available SSD space. An 8 GB system meets the minimum memory figure; Activision lists 12 GB for its recommended 60-FPS configuration and 16 GB for competitive or ultra-4K use. Graphics memory is similarly listed as 3 GB minimum, 8 GB recommended, and 12 GB for competitive or ultra-4K figures.
Update the graphics driver
Use the current driver versions shown on Activision’s requirements page for AMD, NVIDIA, or Intel, taking care to select desktop, notebook, or workstation software as applicable. Restart after installation. A driver mismatch can affect both launch and in-game stability, so test the same scenario after the restart instead of changing several variables simultaneously.

Eliminate software interference
Close background applications and disable overlays, recording utilities, and input-remapping programs. Keep the computer cool and unobstructed. If the crash stops, restore tools individually until the offending process is identified. If it returns only after a particular overlay or recorder starts, leave that tool disabled during play or seek an update from its maker.
Use the known-issues tracker before escalating
Check Activision’s Black Ops 7 known-issues tracker. A listed issue may require an official game update rather than a local repair. For a persistent PC crash that is not listed, submit Activision’s PC Crash Report with the time, mode, error text, hardware, Windows version, driver version, and steps that reproduce it. Detailed reproduction information is more useful than repeatedly reinstalling unrelated software.
How to stop packet burst in Black Ops 7
Activision discusses packet burst through latency, ping, and packet loss; it does not promise one switch that fixes every warning. The goal is a steadier path from the PC to the game service.

1. Use wired Ethernet
Connect the gaming PC directly to the router with Ethernet. Activision says, “We strongly recommend using a wired Ethernet connection during online gameplay.” A cable removes the local wireless link as a variable; it cannot repair an outage or congestion farther along the ISP path, but it is the most useful first test.
2. Stop competing traffic
Pause large downloads, cloud synchronization, video streams, and uploads on the PC and other household devices. Ask other users to stop bandwidth-heavy activity for one match and compare the result. If packet burst appears only while the connection is busy, the problem is local congestion rather than a graphics setting.
3. Restart the network equipment
Exit the game, restart the router, wait for it to reconnect fully, and then test again over Ethernet. This clears a temporary router state but does not change your broadband plan or fix a continuing service fault.

If the router provides Quality of Service (QoS), configure it according to the router’s instructions so game traffic receives priority during congestion. Activision notes that some routers specialize in reducing lag; it does not endorse a particular model. QoS helps only when the router is managing competing traffic on your home network.
5. Separate home-network trouble from an ISP or service problem
Test at a quiet time with one wired PC and no downloads. If packet loss or severe latency persists across sessions, contact your internet service provider and provide timestamps and test results. If Activision’s service indicator is not green, wait for the service issue instead of changing router settings. If the indicator is green but the problem affects only your connection, the ISP path or home network remains the likely area to investigate.

A clean troubleshooting sequence
- Check Activision’s service indicator and alerts.
- Classify the symptom as rendering stutter, a crash, or packet burst; record when and where it occurs.
- Verify Windows, processor, GPU, RAM, VRAM, SSD space, DirectX 12, TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, and AVX requirements.
- Update the graphics driver using the current AMD, NVIDIA, or Intel version listed for Black Ops 7.
- Restart the PC, close background applications, and keep the system cool.
- Disable overlays, recording tools, and input remappers for a clean test.
- For packet burst, switch to Ethernet, stop heavy household traffic, restart the router, and enable QoS if supported.

Do not treat registry edits, disabling IPv6, replacing thermal paste, or buying a specific router as Activision-verified solutions. Those changes may have unrelated uses, but they are not established by the official guidance for this problem. Make one supported, reversible change at a time so you can identify what actually affected the symptom and undo it if necessary.
