If Call of Duty: Mobile is lagging during a match, freezing, crashing, showing a black screen, or refusing to open, start by identifying which symptom you have. Connection trouble and app-launch failures need different checks. Try the relevant low-risk steps below one at a time, and test the game after each one.
First, identify what is going wrong
- Lag or connection trouble: The game opens, but play is delayed or unstable, or you have trouble connecting.
- Crash, freeze, or black screen: The game opens but stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or displays a black screen.
- Launch failure: The app will not open or gets stuck before you can play.
- Storage warning: Your device reports that it lacks space or cannot install or access apps.
Activision treats connection and lag problems separately from crashes and launch problems, so follow the section that matches your symptom.
Why is COD Mobile lagging or failing to connect?
Call of Duty: Mobile requires a network connection to play, and connection quality is one possible cause of lag. Activision recommends using a strong Wi-Fi connection when possible. These checks may help, but they cannot establish the cause of every instance of lag.
- Check that your device is connected to the internet. If possible, try playing on a strong Wi-Fi connection.
- If Wi-Fi is troublesome and you can access the router, restart it. Wait for it to reconnect, then test the game.
- Restart your phone or tablet and try again.
Test after each step so you can tell whether anything changed. If the game instead freezes, crashes, displays a black screen, or will not open, use the app troubleshooting steps below.

Fix crashes, freezes, a black screen, or launch failures
For app problems, work through the following steps in order. Open Call of Duty: Mobile and test it after each step before moving on.
- Restart the device. Reopen the game after the phone or tablet has restarted.
- Update the game. Check the official app store on your device for an available Call of Duty: Mobile update, install it, and test the app.
- Install operating-system updates. Check your device’s settings for an available system update. Follow the device’s update process, then test the game again.
- If you use Android, clear the game’s cache. Open the device’s app settings, select Call of Duty: Mobile, open Storage, and select Clear Cache. Labels can vary by Android device. This is not the same as clearing app data; select the cache option, then reopen the game.
- If you use iOS and the problem continues, delete and reinstall the app. Activision says your progress and other game data can be restored by opening the reinstalled game and signing in with the same account you used before.
Activision recommends restarting the device and checking for app and operating-system updates for launch and crash problems; its Android guidance also includes clearing the game’s cache. Its iOS troubleshooting sequence includes deleting and reinstalling the app.

Check whether your device meets the minimum requirements
Activision lists these minimum compatibility requirements for Call of Duty: Mobile:
| Platform | Minimum operating system | Minimum RAM |
|---|---|---|
| Android | Android 6.0 or later | 2 GB |
| iOS | iOS 15.0 or later | 2 GB |
These are published minimums, not performance guarantees. Meeting them does not guarantee smooth gameplay, and falling short means the device does not meet Activision’s stated minimum compatibility requirements. The published figures do not establish how a particular device will perform.

What to do if storage is low
Limited device storage can prevent apps from installing or being accessed. Check your available space in the device’s storage settings before removing anything.
On Android
- Clear caches for other apps if you need to free space; Activision suggests repeating this as needed.
- Remove apps you no longer use or large files you no longer need. Back up important files before deleting them.
On iPhone or iPad
- Review iPhone Storage or iPad Storage in Settings and remove apps you no longer use.
- Review iCloud backup management if relevant to your storage situation. Avoid deleting important files or backups unless you understand what will be removed and have another copy where needed.
Should you change your registered region to reduce lag?
No. Activision says, “Changing your registered region will not affect game performance.” It also says players connect to servers closest to them physically. Changing the registered region is therefore not an official performance remedy.

When to contact Activision Support
If the relevant steps do not help, Activision directs players to in-app help: open the game, go to the main lobby, and tap the question-mark icon. The official troubleshooting guidance does not identify a guaranteed fix or establish the cause of a problem on an individual device. It also does not confirm whether there is a current service outage.
