The word Memory in the message does not identify a failed RAM module by itself. Work through this order first
- Check service status. Open Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare status page and the status page for your Xbox or PlayStation network. If either provider reports an incident, do not change Windows or graphics settings to chase a server-side failure. Wait for the provider to restore service and try again.

Lower the allowed VRAM use
In the same graphics area, reduce the game’s maximum VRAM allocation. Do not treat the displayed percentage as a promise that the game will never allocate more memory; use it as a limit control and leave substantial physical VRAM unused. Apply the setting before launching the previously failing map again.
This is a reversible test. If the error disappears, raise one setting at a time only if you need higher image quality, testing the same map after each change. If the error returns, keep the last stable setting. If lowering both options changes nothing, that result points away from a simple graphics-memory limit but does not prove a different cause.
Why Ground War can expose the problem
Ground War presents a large-map, high-player scenario, so a map-specific allocation problem can become visible there before it appears in a smaller mode. That is an explanation for the pattern, not a measured performance finding. The available reports do not establish a required VRAM capacity or a universal texture setting.

PC fix: restore or enlarge the Windows paging file
Open Virtual Memory
- Open System Properties in Windows.
- Under the performance controls, open Performance Options.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Under Virtual Memory, review the paging-file setting.
Choose a supported change
If Windows is set not to use a paging file, re-enable automatic management. If it is enabled but undersized, increase the allocation. Apply the change and restart Windows before launching the game. Automatic management is the safer first choice when you do not have a reason to maintain a fixed size, because Windows can adjust the file as system demand changes.
Do not confuse the paging file with physical RAM. It is disk-backed virtual memory, so enlarging it does not add the same performance as installing RAM. The setting is recommended here because an undersized or disabled file was identified as one reported PC cause, not because it guarantees a cure.
What console players can and cannot change
Texture Resolution, VRAM allocation and the Windows paging file are PC controls. Console players cannot use those steps. Start with the Activision service page and the status page for the relevant Xbox or PlayStation network, because the documented server-side explanation applies to consoles as well as PCs.

If a service incident is active, wait for the provider’s repair rather than repeatedly reinstalling the game. During the January 22, 2020 incident, an Infinity Ward staff account told affected players that an on-screen prompt claiming data was corrupt or had not downloaded properly should not be answered with either option; players were told to hard-close the application. That instruction addressed that contemporaneous update incident and is not a statement about a current 2026 outage. If you see a different prompt today, record its exact wording and follow the current support notice for your platform.
Why Ground War reports matter
An Overclockers Australia discussion from December 2019 described the code after four or five Ground War matches. Another participant said it appeared only in Ground War. These observations explain why many players associate 19 148 with that mode, but they are individual reports rather than a controlled test.

Community discussion from December 2019 connected the code with Ground War and repeated play sessions. The reports establish that the symptom existed in that period and could be mode-specific; they do not supply prevalence data or a confirmed root cause.
January 22, 2020 update incident
A Reddit discussion dated January 22, 2020 recorded an Infinity Ward staff response to prompts saying player data was corrupt or had not downloaded correctly. The advice was to select neither option and hard-close the application while the team investigated. That event is useful historical context for why a server or update problem can look like local corruption, but it should not be presented as a live status report.
Appuals update on May 7, 2022
Appuals’ troubleshooting article, updated May 7, 2022, documented the service-status check, lower texture and VRAM settings, and paging-file changes. Those instructions remain reversible diagnostic steps. They do not prove that the same underlying incident is active now or that every player will respond to them.
Common mistakes that waste time
- Assuming the label proves bad RAM. The reports do not identify a physical memory failure as the universal cause.

Include your platform, game edition, map, mode, number of matches before failure, whether the game restarts, whether the server connection drops, and the exact wording of any additional prompt. This information distinguishes a repeatable map or mode failure from a broad startup problem.
For a continuing PC failure, return settings to the last known stable configuration rather than making increasingly aggressive changes. For a continuing console failure, preserve the status-page result and the time of each attempt. If support asks for logs or platform details, provide those records. The available material does not establish a single next repair once these steps fail, so an unresolved error should remain described as unresolved rather than attributed to a specific component.
