Confirm what “0x8007007e” refers to
Before changing anything, write down the complete message exactly as it appears. Also record:

Canon’s error-code finder and support downloads are model-specific. Select the exact model rather than relying on a package intended for a similar-looking printer. If the message came from Windows System Restore instead of a Canon program, note that separately; a printer driver procedure may not address a system-restore failure.

Find the package for the exact model
Open Canon’s official support portal, search for the complete model number, and choose the Windows edition you actually use. Download the driver, utility, and manual package offered for that model. The model-specific package is important because Canon’s error-code guidance and available components differ between printers.

Install without mixing model families
- Close the Canon installer or utility that displayed the code.
- Run the package downloaded for your exact model and Windows edition.
- Follow its connection prompt. If it asks you to connect the printer later, leave it disconnected until the installer requests it.
- Restart Windows when the package requests a restart, then test a print or reopen the Canon utility.
If the official package does not list your Windows edition, do not substitute a random driver from a third-party download site. Keep the model number and the package name for a support case.
Check the connection before repairing Windows
USB printers
- Turn off the printer if the model’s instructions require that before reconnecting it.
- Unplug the USB cable from the computer and printer, then reseat both ends firmly.
- Try a different USB port on the same computer.
- Run the Canon installer or Windows printer-add process again.
A cable or port can prevent recognition, but it cannot repair missing or corrupted Windows components. If another port changes nothing, continue with the software steps.

Wi-Fi and network printers
Confirm that the printer and the PC are on the same network. A printer connected to a different Wi-Fi network, guest network, or isolated segment may be powered on yet unavailable to Windows. Re-run the model’s Canon setup utility after correcting the network connection.

Restart Print Spooler when jobs or recognition are stuck
The Print Spooler manages Windows print jobs and printer communication. Restart it when jobs remain queued, the printer appears offline after installation, or recognition is stuck.
- Press
Win+R, typeservices.msc, and press Enter. - In the Services window, find Print Spooler.
- Right-click it and choose Restart. If Restart is unavailable, choose Start.
- Close Services and try the Canon utility or a test print again.
If the service stops again immediately, record that behavior. It points to a service, driver, or queued-job problem that should be included when you contact Canon or Microsoft.

Remove and add the Canon printer again
Windows 11
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the Canon printer and choose Remove.
- Restart Windows if Settings or the installer requests it.
- Return to Printers & scanners, choose Add device, and let Windows search.
- If Windows asks for a driver, select the package for the exact Canon model that you downloaded from Canon.
Windows 10
- Open Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the Canon printer, choose Remove device, and confirm.
- Restart if needed, then select Add a printer or scanner.
- When prompted, update or reinstall the model-specific driver.
Removing and re-adding the device addresses a damaged Windows printer entry or an installation that stopped partway through. It does not replace the need to use Canon’s matching package.
Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use these commands when the Canon package is correct, the connection works, and Windows still reports the code or cannot complete installation. Microsoft’s sequence is important: run DISM first because it can provide the files that System File Checker needs for repair.

- Save your work and close open applications.
- Open the Start menu, type
Command Prompt, right-click it, and choose Run as administrator. - At the elevated prompt, run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth - Wait for DISM to finish. Do not close the window just because progress appears to pause.
- Run the second command:
sfc /scannow - When SFC completes, restart Windows and retry the Canon installation or printer-add process.
Record whether either command reported corruption or a repair result. If DISM or SFC cannot complete, include the exact ending message in your support request rather than repeatedly rerunning the commands.

What not to infer from the code
- The shortened wording “8x8007007e” is not enough to identify a Canon model or a single fix.
- A successful cable swap does not prove that Windows files are healthy.
- A driver reinstall does not prove the printer hardware is defective if the printer was simply on another network.
- The code alone does not establish a security problem. Use the complete message and originating program to decide what it means.
- Do not delete registry entries or install an unrelated driver package as a first response; those actions are not part of the supported recovery sequence described here.
Prepare an effective support request
If the error remains, send Canon or Microsoft a compact record instead of only the hexadecimal code:
- Exact Canon model and the name of the Canon utility or Windows screen.
- Full error text and a screenshot if permitted.
- Windows edition and build.
- USB, Wi-Fi, or network connection details.
- Whether the printer was ever recognized on this PC.
- Which official Canon package you installed.
- Whether restarting Print Spooler changed anything.
- The final DISM and SFC messages.
This evidence lets support distinguish a model-package mismatch, a connection failure, a stuck Print Spooler, and damaged Windows components. It also prevents a generic 0x8007007e answer from being applied to the wrong Canon model or to a System Restore screen.
