For Assassin’s Creed Valhalla crashes, launch failures, low FPS, or stuttering, start by identifying when the problem occurs and which platform you use. On PC, compare your hardware with Ubisoft’s published requirements, then use the in-game Benchmark to measure changes to Graphics settings one group at a time. On PlayStation 4, Ubisoft’s general troubleshooting checklist provides a staged set of system and installation checks; it is not a PS5 or Xbox repair guide. If a PC problem persists, Ubisoft asks players to contact Support with DxDiag and MSInfo reports.

Start by identifying the failure

There is no single cause or universal fix established for every Valhalla crash, failure to launch, or performance problem. Ubisoft’s help page directs players reporting low frames per second (FPS) or crashes to general technical troubleshooting, rather than offering a definitive error-by-error diagnosis. A useful first step is therefore to locate the failure in the game’s startup or play sequence and keep a short record of what happens.

  • Before the Ubisoft splash screen: Note whether the game opens at all, exits immediately, or displays an error.
  • During loading: Record which loading stage or transition is involved, if it is repeatable.
  • At a repeatable in-game point: Note the activity, location, or action that precedes the crash without assuming it is the cause.
  • After extended play: Record how long you played and whether the symptom is a crash, slowdown, or stutter.
  • Performance issue: Distinguish consistently low FPS from brief stutters or drops in particular scenes.

For a support case—or to make your own comparisons useful—write down the platform, game version, operating-system version, PC hardware if applicable, graphics settings, any recent driver or system changes, and the exact displayed error. These details help describe the case; by themselves, they do not establish what caused it.

PC: check whether your system matches the target

Ubisoft’s PC requirements page, updated 30 September 2026, lists configurations for specific resolution and frame-rate targets. These are published targets, not a guarantee that a matching PC will never crash or stutter. Check the target that most closely matches how you intend to play, rather than comparing one component in isolation.

Recommended, 1080p / 60 FPS Ryzen 7 1700 or Intel i7-6700 or better; AVX, AVX2, and SSE 4.2 required 8 GB, dual-channel Radeon Vega 64 8 GB or GeForce GTX 1080 8 GB or better 147 GB available; SSD recommended Windows 10 64-bit; DirectX 12
Recommended, 1440p / 60 FPS Ryzen 5 3600X or Intel i7-8700K or better; AVX, AVX2, and SSE 4.2 required 16 GB, dual-channel Radeon RX 5700 XT 8 GB or GeForce RTX 2080S 8 GB or better 147 GB available; SSD required Windows 10 64-bit; DirectX 12
Recommended, 2160p / 60 FPS Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel i7-9700K or better; AVX, AVX2, and SSE 4.2 required 16 GB, dual-channel Radeon RX 5700 XT 8 GB or GeForce RTX 2080 8 GB or better 147 GB available; SSD required Windows 10 64-bit; DirectX 12

All four entries specify Windows 10 64-bit and DirectX 12. Ubisoft also lists CPU support for AVX, AVX2, and SSE 4.2 in each configuration, and 147 GB of available storage. The 1080p entries specify 8 GB of dual-channel RAM; the 1440p and 2160p entries specify 16 GB. The SSD recommendation becomes a requirement for Ubisoft’s listed 1440p and 2160p configurations.

The targets are not interchangeable. Ubisoft’s 1080p minimum is for 30 FPS, while its recommended 1080p configuration is for 60 FPS. For both higher-resolution targets, the page lists 16 GB of dual-channel RAM and requires an SSD; the CPU and GPU examples differ between 1440p and 2160p. Use the row closest to your intended resolution and frame-rate target when assessing the whole PC. A machine that meets one row is not thereby shown to meet another.

Storage is worth checking before changing settings: the requirement is 147 GB available, not merely a drive of that total capacity. If the drive has less free space, first determine whether you can safely free enough space; the figures do not by themselves support buying a new drive as a universal crash fix. An SSD is recommended for the listed 1080p configurations and required for the listed 1440p and 2160p configurations, but that does not make it a guaranteed cure for crashes or stuttering.

If your PC falls below the target for your chosen resolution and frame rate, that mismatch is a reason to test less demanding Graphics settings—not proof that it is the cause of a crash. The requirements do not establish that buying a particular component, adding a generic optimizer, or changing an unrelated setting will fix your particular symptom. Check the full configuration, especially required CPU instruction support, before deciding whether a hardware change is relevant.

PC: measure performance with the in-game Benchmark

The Benchmark gives you a way to compare the current configuration with a changed one. Ubisoft’s instructions are to open Benchmark from the main menu, confirm the run, and adjust settings in the Graphics tab to better match the system requirements. Run the test again after a change and compare its results with the previous run.

  1. Open the game’s main menu and select Benchmark. Confirm the run when prompted.
  2. Record the result and the current Graphics settings. Include the resolution and any performance figure the game reports, so you have a baseline for comparison.
  3. Open Graphics settings. If you are trying to improve performance, select a less demanding setting that is relevant to your target rather than changing many options at once.
  4. Change one setting or one related group at a time. This is a practical way to tell which adjustment coincides with a change; it is a testing method, not a special Ubisoft requirement.
  5. Run Benchmark again and compare. Record the new settings and result. If performance improves, keep the change and continue only if needed; if it does not, restore the prior setting before testing another group.
  6. Check whether the original symptom remains in normal play. A Benchmark comparison helps assess performance under its test, but it does not by itself prove that a crash or every in-game stutter has been resolved.

Use the comparison to make a targeted decision. If a lower-demand configuration improves the result, continue with settings that fit the resolution and frame-rate goal you actually want. If the Benchmark does not improve, or the issue is that the game will not start, repeated graphics changes are unlikely to answer the launch question; keep the symptom record and use Ubisoft’s support route if the PC issue persists.

Do not treat a single Benchmark run as a guarantee of how every scene will perform. Record the same kind of result before and after a change, and compare like with like: resolution and relevant Graphics settings should be noted alongside the outcome. The point is to learn whether a measured adjustment coincides with an improvement on your configuration, not to chase a universal number that Ubisoft’s troubleshooting page does not specify.

PC: distinguish low FPS, stuttering, and a launch failure

Low FPS

Compare your PC with the relevant Ubisoft target, then establish a Benchmark result before making changes. A system that meets a lower target may not be suitable for the higher resolution or frame rate you selected. Lowering the demand through Graphics settings and rerunning the test gives you evidence about that configuration. Ubisoft does not publish a universal FPS threshold in the cited troubleshooting guidance that determines when every player should change settings.

Stuttering or scene-specific drops

Write down whether the stutter is brief, frequent, or tied to a particular scene, and whether it occurs in the Benchmark or only during play. The distinction helps describe the issue; it does not identify a universal cause. Ubisoft’s historical patch notes mention FPS drops in some scenes as one of several areas addressed in a 2022 update, but that record cannot establish that your current stutter is the same issue.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla won’t launch

Record whether the game exits before the splash screen, fails during loading, or displays a message. The official material covered here does not provide a complete launch-error code index or a cause-by-cause repair matrix. Avoid treating a performance setting as a fix for a game that does not reach the point where the setting can be changed. If the issue remains on PC, give Ubisoft Support the error and system details, along with the diagnostic reports requested for persistent cases.

Console: apply the guidance for the right platform

The detailed console procedure available from Ubisoft is general technical support guidance for PlayStation 4. It is not a Valhalla-specific repair procedure for PS5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X|S. For those other platforms, confirm that the game and console are updated, note any error, and consult Ubisoft or the platform maker for steps that match the exact system. The retrieved guidance does not establish detailed current PS5 or Xbox repair steps.

  1. Install available system updates. Restart after updating, then test the game before moving on.
  2. Power cycle the console. Shut the PS4 down fully, allow it to power off, then start it again and try the game.
  3. Test one launch while disconnected from the internet. If the result changes, record that outcome; the test can help narrow the circumstances but does not establish a permanent fix.
  4. Restore licences. Use the PS4 system’s licence-restoration function, then try launching again.
  5. Rebuild the database through Safe Mode if appropriate. Follow PlayStation’s instructions for entering Safe Mode and rebuilding the database. Back up first because some Safe Mode options may cause data loss; do not select other options casually.
  6. Check installation completeness and drive location. Confirm the game has finished installing and note whether it is on the internal drive or an external drive. If an external drive is involved, use Ubisoft’s guidance to check the installation and drive arrangement.
  7. Reinstall if appropriate. If the installation check has not resolved the problem, reinstalling is one of the steps in Ubisoft’s checklist. Allow the installation to complete before testing.
  8. Try the game on another PS4 if available. If the issue follows the game to another console, that is useful information for support; if it occurs only on one system, include that distinction in your case.

If the issue persists after the PS4 checklist, Ubisoft’s article directs players to PlayStation Support. The steps above are attributed to Ubisoft’s general PS4 technical article, not to a Valhalla-only or cross-platform procedure.

What older patch notes can—and cannot—tell you

Ubisoft’s Title Update 1.5.1 notes, dated 19 April 2022, list several fixes under “Performance and Stability.” They include a freeze related to equipping or unequipping the Forceful Rune on new expansion weapons, an Xbox Quick Resume “Failed to Save Game Progress” message, general performance and stability, and FPS drops in some scenes.

Those entries document issues addressed in that update at that time. They do not show that every player experienced them, prove that a current crash has the same cause, or identify the latest game update. If your symptom sounds similar, include the exact conditions in a support report rather than assuming the old patch note explains it.

Prepare a useful PC support case

Ubisoft’s Valhalla troubleshooting page asks players with a persistent PC issue to contact Ubisoft Support and attach DxDiag and MSInfo reports. These reports provide diagnostic information about the PC’s configuration for support to inspect; they do not guarantee a particular fix or response time.

  • Describe what happens and when: before the splash screen, during loading, at a repeatable point, or after extended play.
  • Include the exact error message, if one appears, and say whether the issue is a crash, launch failure, low FPS, or stutter.
  • List the game and operating-system versions, relevant hardware, Graphics settings, and recent driver or system changes.
  • Attach the DxDiag and MSInfo reports to the Ubisoft Support case as requested.
  • Keep diagnostic files private; do not post them publicly, because they contain details about your system.

Ubisoft lists Assassin’s Creed Valhalla for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Amazon Luna, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Store, Steam, and Ubisoft+. Availability and editions vary. The troubleshooting route should match the platform where the problem occurs.

Can the in-game Benchmark fix low FPS or stuttering?

The Benchmark measures the current configuration; it is not itself a repair. Ubisoft recommends adjusting the Graphics tab to better match system requirements and running the test again to compare. Change one setting or related group at a time and check whether normal play improves too. A Benchmark result does not prove that a crash or every scene-specific stutter has been resolved.
