These steps can address common PC or installation problems, but they cannot repair an unresolved bug in the game itself. For build-specific issues, check the developer’s current support and known-issues pages.
Why does an early-access game keep crashing or fail to launch?
A crash can have more than one cause: damaged or missing install files, outdated system software or drivers, nonessential software running in the background, or a PC that does not meet the game’s requirements. Steam recommends these general checks, but a computer close to the minimum requirements may still have launch or performance trouble. Steam’s launch troubleshooting guidance covers the platform’s basic steps.
- Restart the computer and try launching the game again.
- Check the game’s published system requirements. Compare them with your hardware and operating system; meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee trouble-free play.
- Install current operating-system and device-driver updates through the relevant official update source.
- Verify the game’s files in the launcher. This checks the installation for damaged or missing files; it does not diagnose every crash.
- Temporarily disable nonessential background software as a diagnostic check. If the game then launches, that alone does not prove which program caused the problem.
Verify files on Steam
In Steam, open Library > right-click the game > Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files. Steam says the check may take several minutes. One or more files can fail to verify normally when they are local configuration files. Avoid verifying multiple games at once or running the check while other system-intensive processes are active. Verify files in the Epic Games Launcher
Open Library, select the game’s three-dot menu, choose Manage, then Verify. Epic says verification repairs files that differ from the expected installation and does not affect saved data. Its support page states, “Your saved data will not be affected.” Epic’s game-file verification instructions provide the procedure.

If the game still will not launch
Write down the game version, operating system, hardware, exact error message, and steps already tried. Send those details to the game’s developer through its current support channel. General launcher checks cannot account for every PC configuration or early-access build defect.
How do I stop stuttering or poor performance?
Stuttering alone does not identify a single cause. First check the game’s published requirements and make sure operating-system and device-driver updates are current. A system near the game’s minimum requirements may still have performance problems.

- If only the game stutters, record when it happens and include that pattern when checking the developer’s known issues or contacting support.
- If the whole PC slows, freezes, or restarts, treat it as a possible system-level problem rather than an ordinary game crash. Steam notes that overheating can be associated with performance symptoms such as stuttering before a system crash; that is a clue to investigate, not a diagnosis. There is no universal graphics setting, graphics API switch, overclocking change, or driver version established as a fix for unspecified games. Check the specific game’s official guidance before making game- or hardware-specific changes.
Why did my save disappear, or what should I do about a cloud conflict?
First confirm that the particular game supports the platform’s cloud-save feature. Steam Cloud can store save games and other user data, but whether a game uses it is game-dependent. Offline play does not sync until you are back online and can leave devices with different versions of a save.

Steam Cloud sync errors
If Steam says files could not sync, address the sync issue before choosing to play. Steam warns that proceeding despite a sync error may create conflicting data or risk lost progress; recovery of lost data is not likely. For more information, see Steam Cloud troubleshooting.
Epic cloud-save conflicts
If Epic displays a conflict after you played offline on multiple devices, compare the available file versions and choose the newer file to keep the latest save, following Epic’s cloud-save conflict instructions.

Before changing local save files
Save locations and recovery procedures vary by game. Before deleting, replacing, or reinstalling files, make a separate copy of the local save data if possible. Ask the developer for the correct save location and recovery steps rather than assuming cloud storage can restore missing progress. Steam notes that a developer may be able to help locate and transfer files if the old computer is still accessible, but recovery is not guaranteed.

Contact the developer when the basic checks do not resolve the issue, when the problem appears tied to a particular game version, or when you need game-specific save recovery guidance. Include the game version, operating system, hardware, exact error or symptoms, whether the whole PC is affected, and the checks you have already tried. Consult the game’s current official support and known-issues pages because early-access fixes and instructions can vary by title and build.
