To fix Dead by Daylight connection errors, first determine whether your platform’s online service is having an outage. If service status is normal, test your local connection in order: use Ethernet instead of Wi‑Fi when possible, stop competing applications, update Windows, the game, drivers and your platform, restart the modem and router, then check firewall, proxy and NAT settings. Error Code 107 and the RTM error each have additional checks.
There is no official ping number that defines “too high” and no single setting that cures every lag problem. The sequence below separates an outage from a home-network fault and tells you when to involve your ISP, network administrator or Behaviour Interactive support.

Start here: identify what is failing
Do not assume a connection error proves that your PC or console is broken. Behaviour Interactive’s Error Code 107 guidance says the error can follow a disconnection and may be related to your home connection, router or a platform online-service outage. A platform status page can show a service incident, but it is not a direct health report for every Dead by Daylight match server.

Run the checks in order. Change one thing at a time where practical, so you can identify which change affected the result.

1. Check your platform’s live service status
When an error appears suddenly, begin with the online-service status page for the platform you use. Behaviour’s Error Code 107 instructions point players to the status services for Steam, Epic Games Services (including Easy Anti-Cheat), Xbox/Microsoft, PlayStation, Nintendo and GeForce NOW. Open the official page for your platform and look for an incident affecting sign-in, friends, matchmaking, authentication or maintenance.
Status information changes quickly. A green platform page does not prove that every Dead by Daylight match server is healthy, and a platform incident can be reported before or after players notice the error. If your platform reports an outage, wait for the service to recover rather than changing router settings or reinstalling the game. If no incident is listed, continue with the local checks below.
2. Test the connection without changing advanced settings
Switch from Wi‑Fi to Ethernet
If your PC or console is on Wi‑Fi, connect it to the router with an Ethernet cable for a controlled test, provided the device and router have suitable ports. Behaviour’s Network Troubleshooting article, published January 21, 2022, states: “If you are using a wireless connection, try using a wired connection as this is typically more stable.” This is an official support recommendation, not a guarantee of lower ping. A cable cannot fix a platform outage or a problem in your ISP’s route.
Play a few matches or repeat the activity that produced the error. If the wired test is stable while Wi‑Fi is not, investigate wireless placement, interference and router configuration. You do not need to buy anything if you already have a compatible cable. If wiring is impractical, move the router closer to the gaming device as a test and avoid placing it behind large obstructions or inside enclosed furniture.
Stop competing applications and traffic
Close downloads, video streams, cloud-sync clients, voice applications and browser tabs that are not needed while launching the game. On a shared connection, another person’s upload can create delay even when a speed test shows a high download rate. Repeat the test with the other traffic stopped; this comparison is more useful than assuming that a larger broadband plan will remove lag.

Run a speed test and compare the result with your service
Run a speed test from the same device and connection that you use for Dead by Daylight. Record download speed, upload speed and any indication of unstable results or packet loss. Behaviour recommends asking the ISP to verify that the expected upload and download speeds are actually being delivered. Speed is only one part of online play: it does not by itself establish that the game’s route is free of delay, jitter or packet loss.
3. Update the game, system and platform
Install available updates before deeper troubleshooting. Behaviour’s guidance covers Windows, Dead by Daylight, device drivers and the relevant platform or console software. Restart after updates that request it, then launch the game again.

- Dead by Daylight: allow the platform client to finish downloading an update before starting the game.
- Graphics and network drivers: use the current drivers supplied for your hardware.
- Console or platform software: install system and client updates, then perform a full restart rather than only returning to the dashboard.
An outdated client can fail authentication or matchmaking, while an outdated driver can add instability. Updating does not repair an external service outage, so keep the earlier status check in mind.
4. Restart the modem and router correctly
A proper restart clears temporary state in the network equipment. It is different from repeatedly pressing a console’s power button.
- Exit the game and shut down the connected PC or console.
- Unplug the modem and router from power.
- Wait at least 15 seconds.
- Plug the modem back in first and wait one to two minutes for it to reconnect to the ISP.
- Power the router back on and wait for its wireless or wired network to become available.
- Start the PC or console and test Dead by Daylight again.
These timings come from Behaviour’s Network Troubleshooting instructions. If the modem never regains its normal connection indicators, contact the ISP rather than repeatedly resetting it.

5. Refresh Windows networking (Windows only)
Behaviour’s guide includes releasing and renewing the local IP address and flushing DNS. Use these commands only on Windows. Open Command Prompt with administrator privileges, run each command, and restart the computer afterward:

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdnsThe commands request a new address from the router and clear cached name-resolution data. They do not change your broadband plan, repair a platform outage or guarantee a lower in-game ping. If a command reports an error, note the message and continue with the platform, router or ISP checks rather than deleting unrelated network settings.
6. Check Windows Firewall without disabling protection
A firewall rule can stop the game from communicating even when other applications work. Behaviour’s Error Code 107 instructions use Windows’ allowed-app list. Do not turn the firewall off entirely.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Firewall & network protection.
- Choose Allow an app through firewall.
- Select Change settings.
- Find Dead by Daylight in the list and allow it on the network profiles that match your trusted setup. If it is not listed, use Allow another app and select the game executable.
- Save with OK, restart the game and test.
Only add the legitimate game installation and keep Windows Firewall enabled. If the computer is managed by an employer or school, policy may prevent you from changing this list; ask the administrator instead.
7. Review proxy and managed-network restrictions
Behaviour’s general network guide notes that a firewall on a shared network, such as university Wi‑Fi, can block the connection and that disabling a proxy may help. Check whether Windows or the platform is configured to use a proxy you do not need. Do not bypass security controls on a corporate, campus or public network without permission.

Public and managed networks can restrict gaming traffic, inbound connections or authentication services. If Dead by Daylight works on a home connection or phone hotspot but fails only on the managed network, give the network administrator the error text and time of failure. The administrator may need to permit the platform’s services; changing settings on your console cannot override a policy enforced upstream.
8. Understand NAT before changing it
Network Address Translation (NAT) affects which connections your platform can establish with other consoles, PCs and services. Behaviour’s NAT FAQ describes these broad labels:

These labels are not identical across platforms, and the menus depend on the console, PC client and router. Behaviour’s FAQ links separate instructions for Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, Epic and Switch. Follow the current instructions for your exact platform and router rather than applying a universal menu path copied from another device.
NAT is mainly a connectivity and matchmaking consideration. Changing it is not a guaranteed latency fix, and it should come after updates, a router restart and a wired comparison. Avoid random port-forwarding guides that do not match your hardware; an incorrect rule can expose services or make the network harder to troubleshoot.
9. Error Code 107: a targeted checklist
Error Code 107 can appear after a network disconnection and reconnection. Behaviour’s article dated September 25, 2025 says the cause may be the home connection or router, or an online-service outage on the platform.

- Open your platform’s official service-status page and check for sign-in, authentication or matchmaking incidents.
- If the platform is operating, test Ethernet or move the router closer, close competing applications and run a speed test.
- Confirm that Windows, Dead by Daylight, drivers and the platform are current.
- Restart the modem and router using the 15-second and modem-first sequence.
- On Windows, run the IP-release, IP-renew and DNS-flush commands, restart, and test again.
- Check that Dead by Daylight is allowed through Windows Firewall; do not disable the firewall.
- If the issue occurs only on a shared network, ask its administrator whether firewall or proxy rules block the game.
If the status page shows an outage, stop at the first step and retry after the platform reports recovery. If no outage is present and the checklist changes nothing, preserve the error text, time, platform and network type for your ISP or Behaviour support request.
10. RTM error: verify the clock and platform NAT
For an RTM error, Behaviour recommends checking the system date and time and using an appropriate NAT configuration. A clock that is substantially wrong can interfere with authentication certificates and service communication.
- Open the date-and-time settings on the PC or console.
- Enable automatic time and time-zone selection where available, then synchronize the clock.
- Restart the device and launch Dead by Daylight again.
- Review NAT using the instructions for your platform and router. Behaviour recommends Open/Type 1 NAT for Xbox and PlayStation, and Type A or Type B for Nintendo Switch.
- If the RTM error remains, contact Behaviour support with the platform, exact message, connection type and the steps already attempted.
The NAT labels and configuration screens can change with firmware and platform updates. The RTM support page is dated March 4, 2022, so use it for the documented principle but confirm the current menu names on your device.
Why Dead by Daylight can lag even when the speed test looks good
Lag is an experience, not a single measured number. Delayed actions, rubber-banding, brief freezes and failed interactions can result from Wi‑Fi interference, packet loss, congestion caused by other household traffic, ISP routing or a service-side problem. A high download figure does not rule those out.
Compare conditions rather than guessing:
- Test the same activity on Ethernet and Wi‑Fi.
- Repeat it with downloads, streams and synchronization stopped.
- Compare a normal home connection with a permitted alternative network only to isolate the source, not as a permanent workaround.
- Note whether every device is affected or only Dead by Daylight.
- Record the time, platform, region and exact error when contacting support.
There is no official numeric “high ping” threshold in the cited Behaviour guidance. Do not treat an arbitrary millisecond value as a universal diagnosis.
When to contact the ISP, a network administrator or Behaviour
Contact the ISP when
- the modem cannot maintain its normal connection;
- the speed test is consistently below the service you pay for;
- multiple devices lose connectivity;
- the problem follows the home connection across different devices; or
- you suspect routing, traffic management or line faults.
Contact a network administrator when
- the game fails only on campus, workplace or public Wi‑Fi;
- you cannot change firewall or proxy policy yourself; or
- the network blocks the ports or services required by the platform.
Contact Behaviour support when
- the platform status is normal;
- you have completed the relevant basic and error-specific checks;
- the issue persists across a stable connection; or
- you need help interpreting an RTM error or repeated Error Code 107.
Include your platform, game version, operating system or console model, wired or wireless connection, NAT label, error text, approximate times, and whether another network reproduced the problem. This gives support information it can act on without asking you to repeat every basic test.
