The February 17, 2026 Hotfix 1.27.1 specifically fixes DX11 stuttering, so an unpatched installation can make every other setting change appear ineffective.
Start with updates before changing settings
Launch your game platform and install every available Dying Light update. Techland’s Hotfix 1.27.1 announcement, dated February 17, 2026, says it “Fixed the stuttering on DX11.” This is a targeted fix, not a promise that every frame-rate problem disappears, so test the game again after patching before changing advanced options.

Update Windows and device drivers
- Open Settings in Windows, choose Windows Update, select Check for updates, and restart when requested.
- Install the current driver for your graphics card from its manufacturer. Also check for current audio and motherboard chipset drivers; Techland lists all three categories as relevant to low frame rates and stuttering.
- Restart after driver installation, then run Dying Light before re-enabling overlays or tuning utilities. A clean test shows whether the update itself changed performance.
Check whether your PC meets the game’s baseline
Use the requirements as a gate rather than as an FPS guarantee. A computer below the minimum can still start the game, but lowering a few options may not produce stable performance. If your system meets or exceeds the minimum, continue with GPU selection, power, software and file-integrity checks before buying hardware.

Dying Light requires a 64-bit system. Techland and Steam also state that laptop versions of the listed graphics cards are not supported. The desktop name printed on a laptop GPU does not change that qualification.

“Please note that laptop versions of video cards are officially unsupported by Dying Light and may cause various issues related to your gameplay experience.” — Techland Support, Performance / Stuttering / FPS Issues, modified November 21, 2023.
Confirm which GPU is rendering the game
On a desktop with more than one adapter, or on a system with integrated and dedicated graphics, Dying Light may start on the lower-power GPU. That produces low frame rates even when the computer appears to meet the requirements.
Identify the adapter in use
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager and select the Performance tab.
- Start Dying Light, switch back to Task Manager, and watch GPU activity while the game is running. Note which GPU engine is busy.
- If the integrated adapter is doing the work, close the game and apply the dedicated-GPU setting below. On a desktop, confirm that the monitor cable is connected to the graphics card rather than the motherboard video output.
Assign Dying Light to Nvidia’s high-performance processor
- Right-click the desktop and open Nvidia Control Panel.
- Choose Manage 3D settings, open the Program Settings tab, and select Dying Light. If it is not listed, add the game executable manually.
- Set the preferred graphics processor to High-performance Nvidia processor, apply the change, and restart the game.
Techland also recommends driver-level V-Sync while turning off the game’s own V-Sync. In Nvidia Control Panel, set V-Sync to On for the Dying Light profile; in the game’s video options, set in-game V-Sync to Off. Test in the same location after each change so you can tell whether the setting helped.

Use a performance power profile
Set Windows to maximum power
- Open Control Panel, choose Power Options, and select High performance if it is available.
- On Windows editions that expose a performance slider, open Settings > System > Power and choose the highest performance mode while testing.
- Plug a laptop into AC power. Battery-saving modes can hold the CPU or GPU below the clocks needed for consistent frame delivery.
Create the Ultimate Performance plan
If the plan is missing, open Windows Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin) and run:
powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61
Return to Control Panel > Power Options, select Ultimate Performance, restart Dying Light and test again. This changes power behavior; it does not add graphics capability to hardware below the game’s minimum.
Lower the settings that affect frame time most
Open Dying Light’s video settings and begin with the options that reduce the amount of world data the game must draw.

Reduce view distance first
Techland specifically recommends lowering view distance for low frame rates. Reduce it one step at a time and test an outdoor area with a long sight line. If the frame rate improves, keep the lower value and raise other options individually until you find the best balance.
Disable Nvidia Depth of Field
Turn off Nvidia Depth of Field when the option is available. This removes an additional post-processing effect and is one of Techland’s suggested checks for FPS problems.
Lower the remaining video options methodically
- Use a lower preset as a diagnostic, then increase individual options rather than changing everything at once.
- Reduce resolution or resolution scale if the GPU remains fully loaded at your monitor’s native resolution.
- Keep a written note of each change and the result. A setting that helps in a crowded outdoor scene may have little effect indoors.
Do not judge a fix from the menu or a quiet interior. Run the same route, weather condition and camera movement after every adjustment; otherwise normal scene-to-scene variation can look like an improvement.

Remove software conflicts before reinstalling anything
Close unnecessary background programs
Exit browsers with many tabs, recording tools, launchers you are not using and hardware-monitoring utilities. Techland recommends closing unnecessary background programs because they can compete for CPU time, memory or disk access. Reopen them one by one after performance is stable to identify a conflict.
Disable conflicting driver or VPN-management software
Techland specifically calls out conflicting driver-management or VPN-management software. Temporarily quit those utilities, restart the game and test. If the stutter stops, update or reconfigure the conflicting program before adding it back to your normal startup list.
Try Steam Safe Mode
Use Steam’s Safe Mode launch option as a diagnostic. It starts the game with a reduced set of launch customizations, helping determine whether an overlay, launch argument or injected utility is involved. If Safe Mode helps, restore launch options individually instead of copying the entire previous configuration back.

Verify the installation files
Damaged or incomplete files can cause repeated hitching, crashes or unusual loading behavior. In Steam:
- Open Library, right-click Dying Light and choose Properties.
- Select Installed Files.
- Choose Verify integrity of game files and wait for Steam to finish.
- Restart Steam and launch the game again. Test before restoring overlays, mods or custom launch arguments.
Verification replaces files Steam identifies as missing or damaged; it does not update Windows, change GPU selection or raise hardware performance, so keep those checks separate.
Use symptom-based checks when FPS still drops
Low FPS from the first frame
- Recheck that the dedicated GPU is selected and that the monitor is connected to it on a desktop.
- Confirm the game is running on the High performance or Ultimate Performance Windows plan.
- Compare your processor, graphics card, VRAM and RAM with the minimum table. Being below one major requirement can dominate the result.
Short stutters during movement or loading
- Install Hotfix 1.27.1 or a later game update; the hotfix specifically addresses DX11 stuttering.
- Verify files and test with unnecessary background software, overlays and driver/VPN-management tools closed.
- Lower view distance and disable Nvidia Depth of Field, then repeat the same route to measure the change.
Performance changes after unplugging a laptop
- Reconnect AC power and select the maximum-performance power mode.
- Remember that Techland does not officially support laptop versions of the listed graphics cards, so settings changes may not eliminate every issue on that hardware.
When to collect logs for Techland
If updates, GPU assignment, power settings, reduced graphics load, conflict testing and file verification do not solve the problem, stop changing several variables at once. Techland asks affected players to submit DxDiag.txt and crash-log files for investigation. Generate the DxDiag report with Windows’ DirectX Diagnostic Tool, include the relevant crash logs from the game installation, and describe when the stutter occurs, which renderer you use and which troubleshooting steps you completed.

Decide whether hardware is the limiting factor
Consider an upgrade only after the requirements check and software sequence. Compare the parts that determine frame delivery rather than choosing by model name alone.
| Upgrade factor | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Dedicated GPU | Rendering capability and available VRAM at your target resolution |
| CPU | Per-core and overall performance for the game’s simulation workload |
| System memory | Total RAM against the 4 GB minimum and 8 GB recommended baseline |
| Storage | At least 40 GB of free space with additional headroom for updates |
| Form factor | Desktop support versus Techland’s unsupported laptop-GPU qualification |
| Target | Your intended resolution and frame-rate consistency, not a claimed universal FPS number |
Techland’s requirement tiers establish a baseline; they do not guarantee a specific frame rate. A system that barely clears the minimum may need substantially lower settings than one near the recommended class, especially at higher resolutions.
