EC:10005 is a network issue, according to EA, but that does not necessarily mean your Wi-Fi is at fault: an EA service problem can trigger the same code. Check EA’s service status first, then fully restart the app, clear its cache, and test a phone hotspot before making more disruptive changes. “EA Desktop” is the former name for the current EA app.
What does Error Code EC:10005 mean?
EA classifies EC:10005 as a network issue. It commonly appears when the EA app cannot sign in or connect to EA services. The code does not identify one precise cause, and it is not, by itself, proof of a bad password, damaged game files, or a graphics problem.
The cause may be local—such as a router, DNS setting, VPN, firewall, virtual adapter, or stale app data—or it may be on EA’s side. EA has previously confirmed service problems associated with EC:10005, including an incident on December 14–15, 2023, so changing settings will not fix every occurrence. EA’s forum incident discussion is historical, not an indication of current service status.
First, check whether EA services are down
- Check EA’s connection troubleshooting guidance and its linked service-status information.
- Look for reports from other EA users. Forum or social-media posts can indicate a wider problem, but they do not confirm an outage on their own.
- If an outage is confirmed or many users report the same sign-in failure, wait and try again after services recover. Avoid repeatedly changing DNS, deleting folders, or reinstalling games while the service is unavailable.
A status page showing services as operational cannot rule out a regional, ISP-specific, authentication, or intermittent issue. If status looks normal, continue with the reversible checks below.

Fix EC:10005 in order
1. Fully restart the EA app
Closing the window may leave background processes running. On Windows, close the EA app, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, and end remaining EA-related processes, such as the EA app or EA Background Service, if they are present. Reopen the app; if it still fails, restart Windows. On Mac, quit the app, open Activity Monitor, search for EA processes, and use Force Quit on any stuck process before reopening the app or restarting the Mac. 2. Clear the EA app cache
If the app opens, use its built-in recovery option rather than deleting folders manually:
- Open the EA app and select the three-line menu in the upper-left corner.
- Choose Help, then App Recovery.
- Select Clear cache and let the app restart.
- Try signing in again.
EA forum support guidance recommends this path for EC:10005, and EA also recommends cache clearing for related app problems. If the app will not open, search Windows for EA App Recovery and run the recovery utility if it is installed. Restart the computer afterward. If recovery is unavailable or fails, continue with connection checks; reinstall the EA app only after the less disruptive steps.

A phone hotspot is a useful diagnostic test, not a permanent fix:
- Enable your phone’s mobile hotspot and connect the computer to it.
- Fully restart the EA app so it does not reuse the failed session.
- Try signing in.
- It works on the hotspot: The home router, ISP route, DNS, firewall, or network filtering is a more likely source. Restore your usual connection and test the home-network steps below.
- It fails on both connections: The problem may be EA-side, account-side, app-side, or specific to the computer. Continue with the local checks, then contact EA if it persists.

4. Restart the router and try a wired connection
If the hotspot works but your usual network does not, restart the modem and router, wait for internet access to return, then restart the computer and test the app again. If available, try Ethernet; EA recommends a stable connection and identifies wired networking as the most stable option where available. Pause bandwidth-heavy activity or network-filtering applications for the test. EA’s error-code guidance covers connection checks.
Changing DNS is an optional next test only when the problem appears tied to your home network. Record your original settings before changing them so you can restore them. EA notes that unreliable DNS can contribute to connection problems, but changing DNS cannot repair an EA outage and is not a universal fix. EA’s connection guidance discusses DNS.

Disconnect or exit any VPN, then retry the app. If you use virtual networking software—such as Hyper-V, VMware, or a TAP adapter—temporarily disable unused virtual network adapters and test again. Re-enable them afterward. EA documents VPN and virtual-adapter troubleshooting for another EA app communication code, EC:10701; treat it as a relevant network-interference test, not a guaranteed EC:10005 remedy. EA’s error-code guidance includes that advice.

6. Check firewall and security filtering
Windows Firewall, the macOS firewall, antivirus web filters, router security features, parental controls, or a managed school or workplace network may block connectivity. For a short test, pause only the relevant firewall or web-filtering feature, retry, and restore protection immediately. If the test identifies a block, use the security product’s allowed-app controls for the official EA app. Do not permanently disable antivirus protection or whitelist unknown files from third-party sites. 7. Close conflicting background apps
Temporarily close VPNs, proxies, overlay tools, other game launchers, network monitors, PC gaming utilities, and virtualization or network-management tools. EA recommends closing background applications when troubleshooting connection problems. If the error occurs only on one Windows PC and ordinary checks do not isolate it, a clean boot can help identify a conflicting service; use Microsoft’s instructions for your Windows version and reverse the clean-boot changes after testing. 8. Update the operating system and EA app
Install pending Windows or macOS updates and restart after major updates. If the app appears damaged or outdated, download the current installer from EA’s official website and run it. Do not use unofficial “EA Desktop fixes,” modified installers, DLL downloads, or registry cleaners. EA’s error-code guidance recommends a stable connection and the EA installer for persistent app problems.

9. Reinstall the EA app only as a later step
Reinstalling may repair a local app problem, but it cannot fix an EA outage. First check service status, clear the cache, test another connection, and try the reversible network checks.
- Uninstall the EA app, not your games.
- Download and install the EA app from EA’s official site.
- Sign in and allow it to look for games already installed on the computer.
EA says access to its games and downloaded extra content through the app is unavailable while the app is uninstalled, and that after reinstalling and signing in, the app will try to find installed games. Do not delete game-installation folders unless EA support specifically tells you to. EA’s uninstall and reinstall guidance.

Contact EA if EC:10005 continues after testing independent networks, if the app still cannot open after recovery or reinstall, or if you cannot authenticate on another device. Also seek account support if the error began after an account change, security alert, ban, or linked-platform change. If multiple users are affected at once, include that information rather than continuing to alter local settings.
If the app remains usable, EA asks users to submit an EA Error Reporter report when an error code persists. Include:
- The exact code: EC:10005.
- Your Windows or macOS version and EA app version, if visible.
- When the problem began, including your time zone, and your country or region and ISP.
- Whether the hotspot test worked and whether disabling a VPN or filter changed the result.
- An EA Error Reporter ID or diagnostic report if requested.
