If EA SPORTS FC 25 keeps freezing or closing on Nintendo Switch, there is no single confirmed cause or universal fix. Start by noting when it happens and any error code, then restart the console and install available system and game updates. If that does not help, check the game for corrupt data; investigate the microSD card only if the game is stored on one.
First, identify when FC 25 crashes
Before changing or deleting anything, note the details. They help distinguish a problem limited to FC 25 from a console, storage, or software issue:
- When it happens: at launch, while loading, during a particular mode or action, or in the middle of a match.
- What appears: record any error code or message exactly.
- How broad it is: check whether other games or downloaded software also freeze or close.
- How the game is installed: note whether you use a cartridge or downloaded copy and, for a download, whether it is stored on a microSD card or system memory.
If the Switch displays an error code or message, Nintendo recommends searching for support steps specific to that code rather than relying only on general troubleshooting. Nintendo’s general downloaded-software guidance explains this approach.
Restart the Switch
For a console that still responds, hold the POWER button for at least three seconds, select Power Options, then choose Restart. If the console itself is unresponsive, Nintendo advises holding POWER for 20 seconds to force it off, then turning it on again.

Install available system and game updates
Update the system
Open System Settings > System > System Update and install the update offered by the console. Nintendo’s update history lists Switch system version 22.5.0 as released on June 15, 2026, with general stability improvements; it does not identify a specific FC 25 crash fix. The version available to you may change, so use the latest update your own console offers. Nintendo’s system update history has the release details.
Update FC 25
- On the HOME Menu, highlight the FC 25 icon without starting the game.
- Press the + or – button.
- Choose Software Update > Via the Internet.
Nintendo includes both system and software updates in its general steps for downloaded software that freezes or does not respond.

Check FC 25 for corrupt data
For a downloaded copy, open System Settings > Data Management > Manage Software > EA SPORTS FC 25 > Check for Corrupt Data. If the check finds a problem, follow the console’s instructions. If the crashes continue, Nintendo suggests deleting the software and downloading it again.
Before deleting the game, make sure you can access the Nintendo Account and download needed to reinstall it. Deleting and redownloading is a troubleshooting step, not a guarantee: it may not resolve a bug in the game itself. If FC 25 is installed on a microSD card
Try this branch only if you use a microSD card and the other steps have not helped. Nintendo lists changing cards, removing the card and installing the game to system memory, or formatting the card as options. Testing another card or system memory avoids the data loss associated with formatting.
- If available, test FC 25 using a different microSD card.
- Alternatively, remove the card and install the downloaded game to system memory.
- Consider formatting the microSD card only if you have decided the other options are unsuitable. Formatting deletes the card’s contents, so back up screenshots and videos first.
Nintendo states that Switch save data is stored in system memory and is not lost when a microSD card is formatted. Formatting is still destructive to the card’s other contents. A card-related cause is not established simply because the game crashes; this test is relevant only to a game installed on microSD.

When the crash is limited to one mode or action
If the crash consistently follows a particular action or occurs in one mode while other software works, record the exact steps that lead to it and share them with support. One Reddit user reported a Career Mode crash while hiring staff and simulating time in a July 8, 2025 post, but that is an individual anecdote—not an official issue listing, proof of a widespread problem, or a confirmed fix. The player’s report should not be treated as a diagnosis for other crashes.
Contact Nintendo or EA with the right information
If Nintendo’s general troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, Nintendo advises contacting its support team. Include the crash stage, error code or message, whether other games are affected, and the game’s cartridge/download and storage details.
