Enshrouded crashes, poor frame rates, and multiplayer failures need different diagnoses. Start by noting your game and dedicated-server version, Windows hardware, whether the fault appears solo or only online, and the exact point where it occurs. A crash during launch is not the same problem as a server that friends cannot discover, and rubber-banding is not the same as low rendering FPS.
The steps below follow Keen Games’ published requirements and support guidance. They can identify common causes, but no official source promises one universal crash fix, graphics preset, or network remedy. Results vary with hardware, connection quality, game version, and host configuration.

Write down the symptom before troubleshooting. Record the Enshrouded build shown by Steam, your Windows version, CPU, graphics card and VRAM, installed RAM, free storage, and whether the issue occurs in a solo world, a peer-to-peer session, or a dedicated server. Also note the exact trigger: launching, loading a world, entering one area, using particular audio hardware, joining a friend, or playing for a period of time.
Compare your PC with the listed requirements
Keen Games’ system-requirements page lists 64-bit Windows 10 and 16 GB of RAM for both minimum and recommended configurations. The minimum graphics examples are an Nvidia GTX 1060 6 GB or AMD RX 580 6 GB. Recommended examples are an Nvidia RTX 2070 Super or AMD RX 6700 XT, each listed with 6 GB of VRAM.

These are baselines, not a promise of a particular frame rate or stability level. If your system is below them, advanced troubleshooting cannot make it meet the documented target; if it exceeds them, a fault can still be caused by software, a particular save, audio hardware, a driver, or networking.
How to fix Enshrouded crashes or a failure to launch
1. Update the game and any dedicated server
Install all available Steam updates for the game. If you run a dedicated server, update that installation as well so its build matches the clients. Read the current Keen Games changelog for a fix that names your symptom, but treat an old patch note as historical evidence rather than a guarantee that it fixes a current crash.
2. Confirm the requirements and available storage
Use the table above as a first check, then verify that Windows is 64-bit, the game is starting on the intended graphics processor, and the drive has room for the installation, updates, temporary files, and saves. On a laptop with integrated and discrete graphics, select the high-performance GPU in Windows Graphics settings or the system’s graphics-control panel, then restart the game.
3. Test one reproducible trigger at a time
Do not change several variables and then assume the last change caused the result. Try to establish whether the crash happens:
- before the main menu or only while loading a world;
- in one world or in every world;
- in a specific area or after a repeatable action;
- with particular headphones, USB audio devices, or other audio hardware;
- only when joining multiplayer, or also in a solo/offline session.
A solo-versus-online comparison is useful evidence, but it does not by itself prove whether the client, save, host, or network is responsible.

4. Report the problem with evidence
If the game opens, use the in-game Report a Bug option. If it will not start, use the external form provided in Keen Games’ crash-support article. Include a short numbered reproduction, the approximate time of the failure, your game version, DxDiag, the client log and its backup folder, and the affected save files. Compress files only when the form requires it, and preserve an untouched copy of your saves.

What historical patch notes can—and cannot—tell you
Keen Games’ Hotfix #27, revision 716889, published June 25, 2025, listed a crash on worlds with large player bases after long play and a crash associated with specific audio hardware. The same note said the recommended Nvidia driver had been updated to the latest release for RTX 50-series stability. Those entries demonstrate that named crash patterns have been fixed before; they do not establish that every current crash has the same cause. Update first, then collect current evidence if the failure remains.
How to fix low FPS in Enshrouded
Start with the documented hardware baseline
Use the requirements table in the first section and confirm that the game is using the GPU you expect. Monitor which GPU is loaded while Enshrouded is running; an integrated adapter being busy while a discrete card remains idle is a configuration problem, not a graphics-quality setting. Close applications that are consuming substantial CPU, GPU, or memory while you test, and restart after changing the selected GPU.
Keen Games’ published material does not provide a universal “best” preset, fixed FPS cap, or guaranteed setting combination. Avoid presenting a community configuration as an official remedy, especially when it was tested on different hardware or an older build.

Record enough information to identify the bottleneck
For a repeatable test, write down the display resolution, graphics settings, observed frame rate, GPU utilization, CPU utilization, and the location or activity where the slowdown occurs. Note whether the rate changes when several players or complex constructions are visible. This is diagnostic logging, not a Keen Games-prescribed benchmark; its value is that it lets you compare the same scene after one change and gives support a concrete description.
- GPU near full utilization: the rendering workload or resolution is likely limiting performance; test one graphics option or a lower resolution at a time.
- GPU lightly used while one or more CPU threads are busy: the scene may be CPU-limited, or another process may be competing for CPU time.
- Sudden stutters tied to a location or save: record the area, world, and trigger rather than assuming the average FPS explains it.
These observations help you decide what to test; they are not proof of a single underlying fault.
Separate rendering FPS from network lag
Low frame rate makes the picture update slowly. Network problems produce delayed actions, teleporting characters, rubber-banding, or players who stop responding while the local camera remains smooth. If the main symptom is delayed interaction or position correction, move to the multiplayer section instead of lowering graphics settings. A faster GPU cannot repair packet loss or an overloaded server.
Be cautious with one-off workarounds
Configuration edits, launch options, driver downgrades, and unofficial “magic” presets may help one machine and harm another. The available official guidance does not validate a general-purpose FPS tweak. Change one setting, keep a record of the original value, and revert it if the result is worse. If performance remains below what your hardware should reasonably deliver, provide the measurements and system information with a support report rather than stacking unverified tweaks.

How to fix Enshrouded multiplayer connection and discovery problems
First identify the failure: random disconnections, a server list that never populates, a peer-to-peer session that friends cannot see, or a dedicated server that is online but undiscoverable. Wi-Fi packet loss, Steam privacy, query-port configuration, and server capacity are separate issues and require different checks.

Keen Games’ FAQ presents dedicated servers as an option when players do not want the host to be online all the time. It also says the game can be played solo or offline. A dedicated server therefore changes availability and administration; it does not automatically solve a bad route, packet loss, or insufficient host resources.
Official sequence for drops or an empty server list
- Verify requirements and versions. Confirm that the client and, for a dedicated server, the server build are current and compatible.
- Check the query port. Keen Games’ network article lists
15637as the defaultqueryPort. Confirm the value in the server configuration and make sure your firewall and router rules match it. Steam’s additional required ports also apply; use the port list in the current official network article rather than copying a rule intended for a different game. - Clear Steam’s download cache. In Steam, open Steam > Settings > Downloads > Clear Download Cache, sign in again when prompted, and retry discovery.
- Flush DNS. Open Command Prompt and run:
ipconfig /flushdnsWait for the confirmation message, then restart Steam and test again.

Change DNS only if you know how to restore your previous settings, and evaluate the result rather than assuming it fixes every connection problem. - Test wired Ethernet when Wi-Fi shows packet loss. Keen Games states: “Should you experience high package loss while playing on wifi, try switching to a cable connection instead.” This test separates wireless interference from an issue farther upstream. A cable cannot fix server overload or a client crash.
When a friend cannot see a peer-to-peer session
Check that the hosting player’s Steam profile privacy is public. If the session remains invisible, invite friends directly from the Steam friends list instead of relying on the server browser. This addresses peer-to-peer discovery; it does not change dedicated-server ports or capacity.
IPv4 is the documented multiplayer path
Keen Games’ network article says: “Please note that Enshrouded is currently only utilizing IPv4 for multiplayer.” Do not assume an IPv6-only connection is supported by that documentation. If your provider gives you an IPv6-only path, ask the provider about IPv4 availability or use the troubleshooting information in the current official support article rather than inventing an IPv6 port rule.

Install the official server tool
The Steam installation guide places the dedicated server under Steam Library > Tools. Launch the server executable once; it creates enshrouded_server.json, which you then configure for your world and network. The documented guide describes Windows support in that context. Because platform support can change, verify the current guide before deploying on another operating system.

Match resources to active players
Keen Games’ recommendations are examples, not performance guarantees. They specify 2 Mbit/s of upload capacity per active player and say download should roughly match upload.

For the 4–6-player example, that rule implies roughly 8–12 Mbit/s upload; for 16 active players, roughly 32 Mbit/s. Those are arithmetic applications of the published per-player recommendation, not guarantees that any particular internet plan or server will perform identically. Leave headroom for other traffic and remember that CPU saturation, storage behavior, and world complexity can still affect play.
If the dedicated server does not appear
Apply the network sequence above, beginning with the configured queryPort, Steam’s required ports, cache clearing, DNS testing, and a wired-connection test where relevant. Check that the server process is running and that its firewall rule applies to the current executable and network profile. If friends can connect by a direct method but discovery fails, the problem is likely visibility or query traffic rather than the world save itself.
Keen Games’ FAQ names GPortal as a dedicated-server rental partner and says other providers may also be used. Provider regions, player capacity, update handling, backups, support, and prices can change; verify those details directly before choosing a host. A rental service does not remove the need to keep the game version, configuration, and evidence organized.
What to send Keen Games when troubleshooting fails
Contact support after you have captured a repeatable failure and completed the relevant branch above. Include only the files that match the symptom, while keeping backups locally:
- game version and Windows version;
- CPU, GPU, VRAM, RAM, storage location, and whether the game uses the intended GPU;
- exact reproduction steps, trigger, time, world name, and whether solo play works;
- DxDiag and the client log plus its backup folder for a client issue;
- the relevant save files, with an untouched backup;
- server logs and server saves for a dedicated-server issue;
- for networking, the hosting model, configured query port, router/firewall changes, wired-versus-Wi-Fi result, and whether Steam invitations work.
Historical fixes show why this detail matters: a crash tied to a large player base, a particular audio device, or a specific driver can look identical to a generic “random crash” without the trigger and files needed to distinguish it.
