Then compare your hardware with Ubisoft’s requirements, make reversible changes one at a time, and compare results with the game’s benchmark. No single fix is established for every system.
Identify the problem and record a baseline
Before changing settings, note your CPU, graphics card, RAM, Windows version, and whether you play through Steam or Ubisoft Connect. Record when the problem happens: immediately at launch, after loading into the game, during a particular activity, or intermittently. Also note any error message and recent changes to drivers, Windows, overlays, or mods.
- Low FPS: performance is consistently below what you want.
- Stuttering: brief hitches interrupt otherwise smooth play.
- Crash: the game closes, freezes, or fails to start. A crash is not the same problem as low frame rate, so note its exact trigger.
Ubisoft’s January 2018 PC feature article says the built-in benchmark and video-memory meter can help assess a PC and calibrate visual options. Run the benchmark before and after a change, keeping other settings the same. The game also offers options such as resolution scaling, an FPS limit, and field-of-view adjustment. Ubisoft’s PC features overview describes these tools; their presence does not mean a particular option will resolve every hitch.
Check your PC against Ubisoft’s requirements
Ubisoft’s current store page lists the following Windows PC configurations. These are published requirements, not a guarantee of identical performance on every computer.

Ubisoft’s January 2018 PC announcement identified 60 FPS at 1080p on High settings as the recommended target. Treat that as a launch-era target, not a promise that every system meeting the recommended list will maintain 60 FPS in all situations today. Ubisoft Store: Far Cry 5 PC requirements.
If your GPU is below the listed minimum, or the benchmark and VRAM meter point to a graphics limitation, the requirements give you a reason to investigate the hardware bottleneck. They do not, on their own, establish that buying a graphics card will fix stuttering or crashes. Check the rest of your PC, power supply, case clearance, resolution target, and budget before considering an upgrade.

Try the reversible troubleshooting steps first
- Restart the PC. This clears temporary problems and gives you a clean baseline for the next test.
- Close nonessential applications and overlays. Ubisoft Support identifies background programs, including optimizers and mods, as possible sources of interference. For a test, disable or close them, then launch the game without changing other settings.
- Verify the game files in the launcher. Use the file-verification option for your copy of the game in Steam or Ubisoft Connect. This checks for damaged or missing files; it will not resolve every performance issue.
- Try running with administrator rights. Test this as a troubleshooting step and compare the result with your normal launch.
- Update Windows, the launcher, the game, graphics drivers, and peripheral drivers. Restart after updates when prompted, then test again. Ubisoft Support includes these updates in its baseline guidance.

Adjust settings if performance remains poor
For low FPS or heavy CPU use
Lower the graphics preset and test again. Ubisoft Support has also suggested testing V-Sync, lowering the FPS load, updating software and drivers, and checking Windows power options when CPU use is high. Change one item at a time and use the benchmark to compare runs; otherwise, you will not know which change affected performance.

For intermittent stuttering
Watch CPU, GPU, and video-memory use while testing if you have a monitoring tool available. Compare those observations with the benchmark and the in-game VRAM meter, then test a lower preset or resolution scaling if graphics load or video memory appears constrained. Try an FPS limit or V-Sync as separate tests. These are diagnostic adjustments, not universal cures: player reports describe differing results across configurations, and community suggestions such as mods or launcher workarounds are anecdotal rather than confirmed fixes.

Separate a launch failure from a crash during play. Note the exact point it occurs, the error text, the launcher, and any recent change. Then work through the restart, background-app, file-verification, administrator-rights, and update checks above. If the crash persists, gather system information and contact Ubisoft Support with the error and the steps you have tried. In a 2022 Steam reply, a Ubisoft Support representative recommended collecting system files and contacting support; that dated advice is not a guarantee of a current response or a specific fix.

A Ubisoft Support representative also wrote in August 2022 that active development had ended and specific issues affecting some systems might not be fixed. This is a dated statement, not confirmation of the game’s status in 2026. Ubisoft Support’s 2022 reply.

What to avoid assuming
- Meeting the minimum requirements does not establish that a specific performance level is guaranteed.
- A GPU upgrade is not a general remedy for every stutter or crash; establish a graphics bottleneck before spending money.
- Community-posted mods, launcher changes, and other workarounds are unverified reports, not official fixes or guaranteed solutions.
- The available official guidance and player reports do not establish a universal cause or a single confirmed fix for all configurations.
