If Fate/Grand Order (FGO) stops at an update, will not download, or will not let you log in when a new event begins, first check the official notices for your game region. Then match the symptom to the right branch: a maintenance or service issue needs an official update, while a missing store update may call for device and store checks. If account data is at risk, do not uninstall the game before checking your transfer or backup options.
First, identify which problem you have
Event timing alone does not establish the cause. A login error during maintenance is different from an update button that is missing from a store, and both are different from an account that appears to have lost its data.
| What you see | What to check first |
|---|---|
| Maintenance message, login error, or event-specific error | Check the official notices for your version of FGO and the current date. A listed investigation may explain the symptom; an unrelated or old notice does not. |
| FGO won’t download, is stuck downloading, or the update is not showing in the store | Check storage, connection, installation location, store listing, and published device requirements. The detailed steps below are from Japan’s official FAQ and may differ from your region’s menus. |
| Login succeeds but account data is missing, or you are considering reinstalling | Check your transfer number or existing backup before deleting or reinstalling anything. Recovery without a prepared method is not guaranteed. |
Check for maintenance or a known service issue
Open the official news or support notices for the region of your game account before changing device settings. Maintenance schedules and active investigations change, and the USA and Japan versions publish separate support information. For example, the USA investigation list posted September 13, 2026 contains dated, issue-specific entries; it does not announce a general event-time login outage. Use the USA official news page to check current notices rather than treating an older issue as the explanation for a new error.
If a notice matches your exact error, follow its instructions and wait for any stated service-side resolution. If nothing matches, that does not prove the problem is on your device: the published information does not provide one universal fix for FGO login trouble after an event starts.

If FGO will not download or the update is missing
Japan’s official FAQ No. 223, updated May 2, 2025, recommends checking available storage, connection stability, and whether the game is installed on internal storage. Its store-specific steps are for the Japanese version, so labels and menus may differ in another region or OS release. The FAQ explicitly warns against uninstalling FGO as a routine troubleshooting step. See the Japan install and update FAQ.
Android: Google Play does not show an update
- Check that the device has enough free storage and a stable internet connection, and confirm FGO is installed on internal storage.
- Open Android Settings and clear the Google Play Store app cache. The exact menu path varies by device and Android version.
- Return to Google Play and check FGO’s listing again. The Japan FAQ warns not to uninstall Google Play Store updates.
iOS: App Store does not show an update
- Check free device storage and connection stability.
- If you are using iOS 13 or later, restart the device, close other running apps, then restart FGO.
- Open the App Store and refresh the Updates tab, then check FGO’s listing again.
If the download remains stuck after these checks, avoid deleting app data or reinstalling as an experiment. Check the requirements for your region and contact that version’s support if the store or game continues to fail.

Verify that your device meets the requirements
Do not rely only on the App Store or Google Play compatibility label. The USA support FAQ says to use its published requirements, which are specific to the USA service and may change. Its requirements page was updated May 26, 2026; consult the USA official guide and requirements for the full supported-device list.
| USA version requirement, as listed May 26, 2026 | Published threshold |
|---|---|
| Apple operating system | iOS 15.0 or later |
| Apple devices | Supported models include iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X or later, iPhone SE (2nd generation) or later, and specified iPad generations; check the official list for exact models. |
| Android operating system | Android 7.0 or later |
| Android memory | At least 3 GB RAM is necessary; 4 GB is recommended. |
| Android processor and exclusions | Supported CPU classes are specified on the official requirements page. Beta OS versions and Intel CPU devices are unsupported. |
These figures describe the USA service requirements published on that date, not a universal specification for every regional client. The Japanese site separately stated on July 16, 2026 that Android 17 had been confirmed to work for the Japanese version; that dated statement does not guarantee support for every device or the USA build. See the Japan Android 17 notice.

USA version: a planned requirements change in January 2027
A USA notice dated September 13, 2026 says a Unity 6 engine update is scheduled for September 25, 2026 PDT and that supported-device requirements are planned to change starting in mid-January 2027. As of October 4, 2026, the notice describes a future change, not the active requirements. The planned post-change thresholds are:
- Apple: recommended iPhone 14 or later; supported devices include iPhone 11 or later and listed newer models.
- Android: recommended Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or later and 6 GB RAM; 4 GB RAM is the stated necessary minimum.
The notice advises players who will be affected to move to a device meeting the recommended environment and prepare a transfer number. Check the USA Unity 6 and device-requirements notice for its full model list and updates.

Protect your account before reinstalling or changing devices
Uninstalling is not a safe first response to a download, update, or login problem. Before removing the app or moving devices, check whether you have an issued transfer number and password or an existing account backup. USA support documents recovery through a transfer number or an iCloud, iTunes, or Google account backup. Its support guidance says a transfer number takes priority if both it and a backup exist; after use, that transfer number and password cannot be reused. Japan’s guidance likewise lists transfer numbers and backups, and says a backup cannot be restored across operating systems, for which it directs players to use a transfer number. These workflows are region-specific; consult the instructions for your client.
If you have no prepared recovery method, or restoration fails, submit an inquiry to the official support team for your region. USA support may investigate and issue a transfer number if its recovery criteria are met, but recovery is not guaranteed. Start with the USA support inquiry page or the Japan support FAQ, as appropriate. Include the exact error text, device model, OS version, game version, game region, and when the error began.

When there is no matching fix
If the notices do not list your issue and the relevant store, storage, connection, and compatibility checks do not resolve it, report the symptom through the support route for your game region. Be precise about whether the problem is a download, update, maintenance/login error, or missing account data. Do not sideload unofficial packages, edit game files, or use third-party account-recovery services; the official guidance cited here does not establish those as safe fixes.
