What makes GT7 worth playing?
A substantial car and circuit-focused game
Polyphony Digital’s current product page lists over 550 cars from more than 70 automotive manufacturers. The appeal is not just the size of the collection: GT7 is aimed at players who enjoy learning circuits, improving their driving, tuning cars and working through a sustained progression loop. A TechRadar racing-games guide characterizes it as content-rich and praises its solo experience and progression; those are editorial judgments, not measured performance findings.
New content has continued to arrive
In its Spec III summary, the official product page says the December 2025 update added eight cars, two real-world circuits, a Data Logger, enhanced Weekly Challenges and new Café Menus. On September 3, 2026, Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi announced a free Spec IV update in two parts, planned for October and December. Announced content included Sportsland SUGO in October, Autumn Ring in December, 12 cars across both updates, online Drift Trials, Shuffle Races, new Driving Experiences, an expanded Car Viewer, progression features and a Concierge feature for buying cars. What are the important trade-offs?
Offline play is limited
According to the official product information, only Arcade Mode is available while offline. If you want a campaign and its broader progression to be fully playable without an internet connection, that limitation weighs heavily against GT7.

PS4 and PS5 are not fully compared in the available specifications
Sony confirms that the game is available on both consoles and provides a list of PS5 features, but the official information cited here does not give a complete PS4-versus-PS5 performance comparison. That means there is not enough evidence to make a precise claim about comparative frame rates, resolution or loading times. If you already own a PS4, it remains a supported entry point; choose PS5 for the features Sony specifically lists and for PS VR2 access.
Upgrading from PS4 depends on how you own the game
The official product page says a PS4 digital version can be upgraded to the PS5 digital version for a fee. If you own the PS4 disc, you must keep it inserted to use the upgraded digital version. A PS4 disc owner cannot use this upgrade route with a disc-free PS5. Check your local PlayStation Store for current eligibility and price before buying or upgrading.

Is GT7 a good choice for you?
- Choose GT7 if you want structured circuit racing, car collecting, tuning and long-term progression.
- Choose the PS5 version if its listed rendering, audio and DualSense features matter to you, or if you want the option to play in PS VR2.
- Choose PS4 if you already own the console, want the base game and do not need VR. The cited specifications do not establish a numerical performance comparison with PS5.
