If Fortnite shows “Error Code: 30005 (CreateService failed with 1072)”, follow Epic Games’ troubleshooting order: restart your PC, reinstall Easy Anti-Cheat, check your graphics drivers, then test with a clean boot. First compare the entire message, though: “CreateFile failed with 32” is a separately documented variant, so do not assume the same cause or fix applies.
Check which Error 30005 message you have
Read the full error text, not just the number. Epic’s Fortnite support steps address “CreateService failed with 1072.” A different message, “CreateFile failed with 32,” is documented separately by Rockstar Games as an Epic Games Launcher Easy Anti-Cheat service error. The sources do not establish that both variants share one root cause.

Try Epic’s troubleshooting steps in order
Epic recommends this sequence for the CreateService failed with 1072 variant. These are diagnostic steps, not a guarantee that any single action will resolve every PC’s problem.
- Restart the computer. Then try launching Fortnite again.
- Reinstall Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC). Fortnite requires EAC to play; follow the Windows installation instructions below.
- Check for graphics-card driver updates. Use the appropriate GPU manufacturer’s support site.
- Test with a clean boot. Use Microsoft’s Windows clean-boot procedure to help determine whether background software is interfering, then try Fortnite again.
Epic notes that background applications can cause problems with the Epic Games Launcher or a game, but that does not identify any particular app as the cause on your PC.

Reinstall Easy Anti-Cheat on Windows 10 or Windows 11
Epic’s EAC help covers Windows 10 and Windows 11. The game may prompt you to install EAC when you launch Fortnite; if it does, accept the prompt. If no prompt appears, use Epic’s manual installation instructions for the EAC files in the game folder.
- Open Fortnite’s installation directory and look for the
EasyAntiCheat_EOSfolder. Epic also describes a default location underProgram Files (x86)in its Windows 10 and Windows 11 EAC installation guide. - Follow Epic’s manual installation procedure in that guide for the files in the folder; do not substitute an unofficial installer or download.
- Try launching Fortnite again after the installation completes.
Epic cautions that Fortnite may need to be installed on the same drive as Windows to avoid registry or user-permission issues. If the error remains, consult Epic’s installation guide and support rather than assuming that moving the game is always necessary.

Identify your graphics card and update its driver
Epic links to driver support from NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel. Use the source for your actual GPU; avoid relying on an unspecified third-party driver-updater utility.
- Press Windows key + R, enter
dxdiag, and open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. - Select the Display tab and find the graphics card name under Device.
- Use that name to select the correct driver from the GPU maker’s support page, then follow its installation instructions.
Use a clean boot as a diagnostic test
A clean boot starts Windows with a reduced set of startup programs and services. It can help isolate whether background software is conflicting with Fortnite or the launcher; it does not by itself prove which application is responsible.

Follow Microsoft’s clean-boot instructions for Windows. After testing Fortnite, restore normal startup using Microsoft’s instructions. If the error disappears in a clean boot, re-enable items in a controlled way to narrow down a conflict; do not leave diagnostic startup settings in place unnecessarily.
Do not confuse tournament security rules with an Error 30005 fix
Epic’s February 10, 2026 notice says that Secure Boot, TPM, and IOMMU are required for PC players in all Fortnite tournaments beginning February 19, 2026. That is a competitive-play requirement, not a documented remedy for Error 30005. The notice says Windows 11-compatible PCs—approximately 95% of Fortnite’s PC player base, according to Epic—likely already meet or can enable the requirements without new hardware. It does not establish that changing these settings fixes the launch error. See Epic’s competitive security requirements notice for the tournament context.
