If a Forza Horizon 6 expansion will not download, first establish whether it has actually been released and whether the Microsoft account you are using owns it. The official Xbox listing currently describes both expansions as upcoming, while Playground Games says they are included with the Premium Edition and Premium Upgrade but will be available later. If the add-on is not released yet, resetting Windows, reinstalling FH6, or repeatedly pressing Install cannot make it available.
For a released and owned expansion, match the fix to your platform, PC storefront, account, and exact symptom. Confirm the entitlement, install the base game first, use the Store or Xbox app library, update Gaming Services on PC, and escalate with purchase evidence if the add-on still does not appear.

Check whether the expansion is available before changing anything
Availability is the first diagnostic branch. The current Xbox Expansion Bundle listing says: “Both Expansions will be available to purchase separately and are included in the Forza Horizon 6 Premium Edition and Premium Upgrade.” The listing describes the expansions as upcoming. The Forza Horizon 6 launch announcement likewise says the Premium content will be available at a later date. Neither page reviewed for this guide gives a release date.
Because storefront status can change, open those official pages immediately before troubleshooting. Look for a release or availability notice, an active purchase option, and an Install or Owned state. Do not treat a missing download as a broken installation when the product page still says upcoming. Purchasing a second edition is not a repair for an add-on that has not launched.

What editions include the expansions
- The Expansion Bundle can be sold separately, according to the Xbox listing.
- The two expansions are included in the Premium Edition and Premium Upgrade.
- Owning a Premium edition does not make unreleased content installable before its official availability date.
Identify the exact setup and symptom
Before applying a fix, write down the information that determines which installation path applies. FH6 is available on Xbox Series X|S and PC. On PC, the official storefronts identified by Forza are the Xbox app/Microsoft Store and Steam.

Save a screenshot of the product page and the error before making changes. Also note whether the base game installs normally. A base game that works while Premium or VIP content does not appear is useful evidence of an add-on entitlement or delivery problem, not proof that FH6 itself must be reinstalled.
Verify the Microsoft account and entitlement
For a released expansion, the Microsoft Store and Xbox app should be signed in with the same Microsoft account that purchased the content or redeemed the edition that includes it. Open the product page or your library and check that it shows Owned, Install, or an equivalent entitlement state rather than Buy.
Microsoft’s Store installation guidance identifies several reasons an item may be absent or blocked even after a purchase:
- The Store or Xbox app is using a different account from the one that paid for the add-on.
- The account, device, or product is in a region where the item is not available.
- Family settings or other account restrictions prevent the install.
- The device is not compatible with the product.
- A Windows update is waiting for a restart, leaving the Store in an incomplete state.
Sign out only when you have confirmed which account owns the purchase; signing into a different account can make a valid entitlement appear to have disappeared. If the product still shows Buy under the purchasing account, treat it as an account or transaction issue and contact Microsoft Store/Xbox support rather than repeatedly reinstalling FH6.

Install the base game before the add-on
The expansion is downloadable content, not a standalone replacement for Forza Horizon 6. Make sure the base game is fully installed on the same platform and, on PC, through the storefront associated with the entitlement. A Microsoft External Staff reply in a June 2026 FH6 VIP DLC discussion advised ensuring that the base game was fully installed and launched before installing the DLC.
Launching the base game once can also expose an incomplete first-run setup, a pending update, or a sign-in mismatch before you spend time on the add-on. This is a sequencing check, not a guarantee that every download failure will be solved.
Use the correct library installation path
Windows: Microsoft Store My Library
- Open Microsoft Store and select My Library.
- Find the owned FH6 expansion or the edition that includes it.
- Select the download or install icon. Microsoft describes that icon as the route for installing an item that has not yet been downloaded.
- If the item appears in Order history, open the order and use its available install option.
If the Store product page has an Install button but clicking it has no visible effect, use My Library or Order history instead of clicking the same button repeatedly. Those views force the Store to resolve the account’s owned downloads and can expose a pending action that the product page does not display clearly.
Windows: try the Xbox app when the Store route fails
For the Xbox app/Microsoft Store version, open the Xbox app while signed into the purchasing account and look for FH6 in the library. A Microsoft Q&A discussion contains individual reports that starting the download through the Xbox app worked when the Microsoft Store did not. This is a community-reported workaround, not an official universal fix, so try it only after confirming release status, ownership, and base-game installation.
Xbox Series X|S
On Xbox, use the console Store and your owned-games or library flow for the account that purchased the expansion. The labels can change with the console interface; the essential checks remain the same: the product must be released, the correct account must own it, and the base game must be installed. If the console shows Buy for an add-on that should be included with your edition, capture that screen and escalate the entitlement rather than buying it again.

Steam on PC
FH6’s PC availability includes Steam, but the Forza Gaming Services requirement still applies to the Steam version. Use the Steam library and account that owns the game and its DLC for Steam-side delivery, while following the Gaming Services check below. Do not assume that a Microsoft Store purchase automatically changes the Steam account’s DLC entitlement; support will need the storefront and account details if ownership is unclear.

Refresh Windows Store components when the download is stuck
These steps apply to a Windows Store or Xbox app installation, not to an Xbox console. Work from the least disruptive check to the more invasive repair.
Install pending Windows updates and restart
Open Windows Update, install any pending updates, and restart the PC even if Windows does not appear to require it. Microsoft’s Store download guidance specifically calls out pending updates and a required restart as causes of incomplete installation handling. After restarting, return to My Library or the Xbox app rather than relying on the old Store window.
Reset the Microsoft Store cache with wsreset.exe
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
wsreset.exeand press Enter. - Allow the reset window to finish and the Microsoft Store to reopen.
- Return to My Library and try the owned FH6 item again.
Microsoft documents wsreset.exe as a Store reset. It refreshes the Store cache; it does not change the purchase account or release an unreleased expansion.
Repair or reset the affected app
Forza’s PC troubleshooting guidance includes resetting Microsoft Store and Forza apps and repairing Gaming Services. Use Windows Settings’ installed-app options for the affected app, starting with Repair when available. A reset is more disruptive because it can clear app state and require you to sign in again, so record the account and the exact error first.

These are PC Store troubleshooting measures. They should not be presented as console fixes, and they should not replace the release and ownership checks.
Update Gaming Services on every PC storefront
Forza Support says FH6 on PC requires Gaming Services version 37.114.10001.0 or later. The requirement applies to both the Xbox app/Microsoft Store version and the Steam version. If FH6 reports “Invalid Gaming Services Detected”, update this component before attempting another expansion install.
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Select Downloads.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install the Gaming Services update if one is offered.
- Restart Windows and check the installed version in Windows Settings, following the version path in the Forza Gaming Services guide.
If the installed version is below 37.114.10001.0, FH6 may fail before DLC handling is reached. Updating Gaming Services is therefore a prerequisite check, not merely an optional performance tweak.
When Gaming Services will not update
Forza’s PC troubleshooting article provides procedures to repair and, if necessary, reinstall Gaming Services. Follow the linked official procedure exactly rather than copying an unfamiliar command from a forum. Reinstalling a system package can affect other Xbox and Microsoft Store games; use it after checking the account, release state, pending updates, and Store reset.
Community-reported installation workarounds
Microsoft Q&A contains reports that can be worth trying after the official checks, but they are not guaranteed solutions or evidence that a problem is widespread.

Install the base game and DLC as separate items
In a May 2026 discussion about error 0x80070490 and FH6 Premium content, one user reported success by installing the base game as a separate item and then installing the DLC separately. Other participants reported that beginning the download in the Xbox app helped. The reports show a possible way around a Store packaging failure; they do not establish a universal fix for every account or edition.
Use this sequence only when the expansion is released and the account already shows the content as owned. It is not a method for bypassing an unavailable release or obtaining content that the account does not own.
Launch the installed base game before installing VIP content
In a June 2026 report about owned FH6 VIP DLC, a Microsoft External Staff moderator advised confirming that the base game was fully installed and launched, then installing the DLC separately from Microsoft Store My Library or Order history. If the DLC still did not appear, the moderator treated the case as a possible account entitlement problem and directed the player to Forza Support.

When the download finishes but the expansion is not recognized
A completed download does not prove that the game has received the entitlement. First confirm that the add-on appears as owned under the purchasing account and that the base game and DLC belong to the same platform ecosystem. Then launch FH6 after Windows or console updates have completed.
If the add-on remains absent in-game while the Store shows an owned, released product, stop deleting and reinstalling unrelated files. The remaining fault may be entitlement propagation or account authorization rather than corrupted game data. Save the order record, the product page showing ownership, the platform and storefront, and the in-game symptom for support.
Use the error text to choose the next branch

When to contact Microsoft or Forza Support
Escalate when the expansion is released, the purchasing account shows ownership, the base game is installed, and the official library paths still cannot deliver or recognize the content. Contact Microsoft Store/Xbox Support for purchase, account, region, or entitlement handling. Contact Forza Support for an FH6-specific add-on recognition problem or a persistent Gaming Services issue after following the official PC steps.
Include the following in the support request:
- Platform: Xbox Series X|S or PC.
- PC storefront: Xbox app/Microsoft Store or Steam.
- Microsoft account identifier or order information, shared only through the official support form.
- Expansion or edition name and purchase date.
- Whether the product page says Owned, Install, or Buy.
- Exact error code or wording, including “Invalid Gaming Services Detected” if shown.
- Whether the base game installs and launches.
- Every step already attempted, including Store reset, Gaming Services update, and the library path used.
- Screenshots showing the entitlement state and failed install action.
The launch announcement links players to Forza’s bug-reporting hub for game issues. For an owned VIP DLC that remained unavailable, the Microsoft Q&A moderator specifically advised contacting Forza Support with purchase details. Giving support the storefront and entitlement evidence prevents an account issue from being misdiagnosed as a download-cache problem.

What not to do
- Do not reinstall FH6 to force an expansion that the official listing still calls upcoming.
- Do not buy the add-on again until the purchasing account and order history have been checked.
- Do not treat a single Microsoft Q&A workaround as a guaranteed fix.
- Do not apply Xbox console reset procedures to a Windows Store problem or vice versa.
- Do not run Gaming Services reinstall commands copied without context; use the official Forza procedure.
- Do not report a forum symptom as a failure rate. No published statistic establishes how common FH6 expansion installation failures are.
