The distinction from 0x80070422 matters. A Microsoft Q&A answer dated March 8, 2024 says, “The error code means Windows update service is disabled,” but the surrounding answer is about 0x80070422, not 0x8007422. Replacing your code with the other one can send you to the wrong repair.

Before changing anything: verify the code and Windows build

Fix 2: check Windows Update and BITS
Microsoft Store delivery uses Windows service components. The two services called out in the Microsoft Q&A discussion are Windows Update and Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS). Both should be enabled and running when you test the Store again.
Open the Services console
- Press Win+R, type
services.msc, and press Enter. - In the list, find Windows Update. Check its status. If it is stopped, open its context menu and choose Start. If it is already running, choose Restart only if you need to refresh it.
- Find Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) and perform the same check: it should not be disabled and should be running while you retry the Store operation.
- Close the Services console, restart Windows, and test the original download or sign-in.
Service policies can be controlled by an administrator, organization, or security configuration. If Start is unavailable, the service immediately stops, or the setting is forced back to disabled, record that result instead of repeatedly changing it.

What service error 1058 means
If Windows reports service error 1058, the service is disabled or has no enabled devices associated with it. That is a service-state problem, not proof that 0x8007422 itself means “Windows Update disabled.” Resolve the 1058 condition only when you have verified which service produced it, then restart Windows and test again.
Fix 3: re-register Microsoft Store with elevated PowerShell
Re-registering the Store is more invasive than wsreset and changes the Store package registration for all users. Use it only after the cache and service checks have failed.

Run the command
- Save your work and close Microsoft Store, Xbox, and Minecraft.
- Open the Start menu, search for PowerShell, right-click it, and choose Run as administrator. Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Verify that the command text is exactly as shown for your PowerShell shell, then run:

- Restart Windows, open Microsoft Store, and repeat the operation that failed.
Package-registration errors can appear if the Store package is missing or Windows cannot access its installation path. Record the full PowerShell error rather than improvising changes to system folders. The command is an advanced repair and requires administrator privileges; the cache reset and service inspection are less invasive.
