Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUpdate Among Us, reconnect to the internet, test a second network, and select the nearest available region. Then close downloads and other bandwidth-heavy apps. These steps help distinguish a problem with your connection or device from a regional routing or game-service issue; none guarantees a lower ping.
This guide covers the original Among Us Classic, not Among Us 3D, which Innersloth says is a separate, incompatible game: Innersloth’s Among Us 3D page.
Try these fixes in order
- Update the game. Check for an update in the store or launcher for your platform. Innersloth says versions from 2023 and earlier stopped connecting on August 6, 2025. The version number appears in the bottom-left of the main menu. See Innersloth’s compatibility guidance.
- Leave and rejoin the lobby. If the problem remains, close and reopen the game.
- Reconnect to the internet. Toggle Wi-Fi or cellular data off and on. Restart your device if needed.
- Test another network. Try Wi-Fi instead of cellular data, or cellular instead of Wi-Fi. If the game works on the second connection, the first network is the likelier source of the trouble.
- Choose the nearest Among Us region. Rejoin or recreate the lobby after changing the region. If the nearest region still disconnects, temporarily test another one.
- Stop competing activity. Pause downloads, streaming, cloud backups, video calls, and other online games. Close apps that are actively using the network.
- Restart the router or modem. If you play on a PC or console, test Ethernet if available; otherwise move nearer the router and try another Wi-Fi band.
Innersloth recommends reconnecting to the internet, switching networks, changing the server region, and closing other programs or apps when troubleshooting lag and disconnections: official lag and disconnection guidance.
Change the server region carefully
From the main menu, open Online and use the displayed region or server selector near the online-play controls. Menu placement can vary by platform and build, so look for the region currently shown rather than relying on a fixed button position. Pick the region nearest you—or nearest the majority of your lobby—then rejoin or create the lobby.

Innersloth lists North American server locations in Texas and California, Europe in Germany, and Asia in Japan. The game attempts to connect players to the closest region, but the closest listed location is not necessarily the best network route for every player. Details: Innersloth’s server information.
- If North American matches keep disconnecting, Innersloth suggests testing Europe or Asia. Treat this as a troubleshooting test, not a guaranteed latency improvement: a more distant region can increase delay.
- Players must be in the same region to use a game code together. Coordinate with friends before changing regions.
- If you are geographically far from the listed locations, you may have fewer nearby region options.
Fix an unstable Wi-Fi or cellular connection
Wi-Fi
- Move closer to the router and avoid walls or other obstructions where possible.
- If your router offers both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, test each where you play. Keep the one that performs more consistently in that spot; either band can be affected by distance and interference.
- Reduce competing uploads, downloads, and streams on your home network while testing.
- On a PC or console, a temporary Ethernet connection can help determine whether wireless signal quality or interference is involved. Wired play can improve stability, but it cannot fix a poor ISP route or a problem with the game service.
Nintendo also recommends trying a wired connection where possible, testing Wi-Fi bands, and reducing competing network use in its general latency guidance for cloud games. That advice is not an Among Us-specific performance guarantee: Nintendo’s connection guidance.

- Cat 8 Speed, Cat 5/5e Value Enjoy Cat 8 Ethernet cable performance at a Cat 5/5e-level value. With up to 40Gbps speed and 2000MHz bandwidth, this high speed internet cable delivers more bandwidth than standard Cat 5 and Cat 5e cables, helping support smooth gaming, streaming, video calls, large file transfers and everyday wired network use.
- 40Gbps Speed, Wide Compatibility This Cat 8 Ethernet cable supports up to 40Gbps data transfer and 2000MHz bandwidth for fast, reliable internet performance. Standard RJ45 connectors are backward compatible with Cat7, Cat6, Cat6a and Cat5e devices, including routers, modems, switches, gaming PCs, PS5, PS4, Xbox, smart TVs, laptops and printers.
- Stable U/FTP Shielding Each of the 4 twisted pairs is individually wrapped with aluminum foil to help reduce crosstalk, noise, and signal interference. Combined with RJ45 connectors on both ends, the U/FTP design helps maintain cleaner signal transmission for a stable and reliable wired network connection.
- Nylon Braided Durability The nylon braided jacket adds everyday durability while keeping the cable flexible and easy to route. Reinforced construction helps the cord handle bending, pulling and frequent plugging, making it a reliable choice for desks, gaming rooms, home offices and long-term network setups.
- 50ft Reach for More Setups The 50 ft length makes it easier to connect devices across rooms, along walls, under desks or around corners. Great for router-to-PC connections, modem-to-TV setups, gaming consoles, workstations, printers and other home network equipment that needs a longer Ethernet cable.
Cellular data
Compare one short session on Wi-Fi with one on cellular, if your plan allows. Cellular may bypass a congested or unreliable home network, but signal quality, carrier routing, and data limits can make it a worse option. A speed test showing high download speed does not rule out latency spikes, jitter, or packet loss.
Check whether it is ping, packet loss, or FPS
“Lag” can describe different problems. Latency (ping) is the delay in communication with the game service. Packet loss means some data does not arrive; jitter means latency changes sharply over time. Either can cause freezes or disconnections even when download speed looks good. FPS lag is a local rendering problem: the device struggles to draw the game smoothly.

| What you notice | More likely explanation |
|---|---|
| Players teleport, actions register late, or the game pauses and catches up | Latency, jitter, or packet loss |
| Doors, tasks, meetings, kills, or votes respond late | Network delay or packet delivery problems |
| The screen stutters locally, but actions are not delayed online | FPS or device-performance issue, rather than ordinary ping |
| Several players in one lobby lag or disconnect together | Consider the host’s connection, selected region, or a game-service issue |
| Only one player has trouble while others are fine | That player’s network, device, or route is more likely |
Among Us does not publish a universal “good ping” cutoff in the support guidance cited here. Do not treat one ping number or a fast download result as proof that a match will be stable.
Update and check compatibility
Make sure the game is current on Steam, Epic, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Android, or iOS, as applicable. Innersloth’s August 6, 2025 guidance says versions from 2023 and earlier no longer connect. If you are already up to date but the game still stutters locally, check the current compatibility guidance for your platform. Its device specifications are general guidance, not proof that a particular device is causing a network problem; Innersloth’s requirements pages also differ on some Android details.

When the problem may be with the game service or route
Suspect an issue beyond your own connection if several players in different locations experience the same problem, it persists after testing another network and region, or both public matchmaking and private lobbies are affected. A sudden widespread failure is a reason to check Innersloth’s Game Errors help section; the symptoms alone do not confirm a live outage.
If only your connection struggles in Among Us but other online games work, compare regions and networks before changing router settings. The cause could be the route to the selected region rather than your overall download speed.

What not to try first
- Lowering graphics settings: This may help a device-rendering problem, but it is not a primary fix for network latency.
- Buying a VPN: A VPN changes the route and may help in an unusual routing case, but it can also add delay. It is a diagnostic variable, not a reliable fix.
- Changing DNS: DNS is not a general cure for in-game latency once a connection is established.
- Factory-resetting the router or forwarding ports: Restarting the router is reasonable; a factory reset is disproportionate for an Among Us-only problem. The cited official guidance does not establish a required port-forwarding setup for ordinary players.
- Reinstalling immediately: Update first and isolate the network. Reinstalling may help with damaged game files, but it will not normally repair Wi-Fi interference, ISP congestion, or a distant server route.
Send Innersloth a useful bug report
If the issue persists across networks and regions, include enough detail for support to distinguish a local problem from a broader one. Innersloth’s reporting guidance asks for information such as platform, version, device, server, country, what happened, frequency, and whether you were hosting: how to report bugs and feedback.
- Exact error message, including “sent six pings that remote has not responded to” if that is what appears.
- Platform and store or launcher; device model; country and time zone.
- Among Us version and selected region.
- Whether you were hosting or joining, whether it affects every lobby or only one, how often it happens, and approximately when it started.
- What you were doing immediately before the problem, plus screenshots or a video.
- Your account ID or Player ID if support requests it.
- On PC, attach the Player.log file.
For the PC log, Innersloth gives this folder path:
%appdata%..LocalLowInnerslothAmong Us
Reproduce the issue, leave the game open, then locate and attach Player.log to your report. See Innersloth’s bug-report instructions.
