If a Minecraft villager’s trade price has gone up, stop using that specific offer and let the villager restock; an unused offer may get cheaper on a later restock. A rise on one offer is often a demand change, while price increases across trades can point to reputation or other edition- and version-specific behavior. Check whether you play Java or Bedrock before trying a cure or assuming the game is bugged.
Why do villager prices increase?
Minecraft’s trading system can respond to both demand and player reputation. Mojang’s Village & Pillage announcement described prices as depending on “your reputation and on demand.” That distinction matters: demand can affect a particular offer, while reputation-related changes may affect other trades too.
Demand on a frequently used offer
If one trade became more expensive after you used it repeatedly or it sold out, demand is a likely explanation. Microsoft’s Bedrock creator documentation explains that a trade’s price_multiplier controls how much its price can rise because of supply and demand. This is technical documentation, not a promise that every trade or edition changes by the same amount.
Reputation after harming villagers
The Minecraft Wiki describes Java as tracking reputation with individual villagers, with negative reputation potentially increasing prices. In Bedrock, it describes a village-popularity system instead, so Java’s player-specific explanation should not automatically be applied to Bedrock. The Wiki is community-maintained, and exact behavior can vary by version.

How to lower a price that rose on one trade
- Stop using the affected offer. Avoid trading that exact item-and-price offer while you troubleshoot; using other offers does not establish that the affected one has recovered.
- Let the villager restock. The Minecraft Wiki says a higher-priced offer that is left unused can decrease after a subsequent restock. The time to recovery is not established as one fixed interval, so do not rely on a specific number of minutes or in-game days.
- Check the same offer again. Compare it after the restock. If only that offer had risen, this is a more targeted response than curing the villager or changing your whole trading setup.
What to do if several prices rose
Look at what happened before the increase. If you hit or killed villagers, negative reputation is a possible cause in Java. Stop harming villagers and allow temporary gossip effects to decay; the consulted sources do not establish a universal waiting time. In Bedrock, popularity works differently, so identify the edition before treating reputation as the cause.
If you did not harm villagers and prices changed on multiple offers, verify the game version and whether your world has experimental trade changes enabled. Mojang’s Bedrock 1.20.30 notes describe librarian and wandering-trader adjustments as experimental and say players must enable the experiment to try them. The Minecraft Wiki’s description of Java and Bedrock reputation systems is secondary and version-sensitive.

Does curing a zombie villager fix higher prices?
Curing a zombie villager can provide a discount, but it is not a universal reset for demand increases. Mojang’s Bedrock 1.20.30 update notes say that “The discount for curing a Zombie Villager no longer increases when the same Villager is reinfected and cured multiple times.” Repeated cure cycles therefore should not be treated as a dependable way to force every offer to one emerald. Confirm your edition and version before relying on a particular cure discount.

- Edition: Java or Bedrock? Their reputation systems differ.
- Scope: Did one offer rise, or did several different offers change?
- Timing: Did the offer sell out or change after the villager restocked?
- Player actions: Did you attack or kill villagers, particularly in Java?
- Experiments: Is a trade-rebalance experiment enabled in the world?
For Bedrock, check the world’s experimental features if a trade change seems unlike the standard behavior. For Java, Mojang’s 26.1 Snapshot 1 notes describe data-driven villager trades and a reputation-discount field, but snapshot documentation does not establish that those features are present in every stable release. If these checks do not explain the price, include your edition, exact version, and whether experiments are enabled when describing the issue.
