These are clues, not a definitive diagnosis. Test Wi-Fi and mobile data under similar conditions, then keep the connection that is more stable.
Tell network lag from phone-performance lag
Ping reflects how quickly game data travels between your device and the game service. When that trip is delayed or inconsistent, actions can register late; Garena notes that high ping can make damage appear invalid and movement look like teleporting. A steady ping alongside choppy animation or slow loading suggests a different problem, such as the phone struggling to run the game. Both problems can happen at once.
Do not use download speed alone to diagnose game latency. A speed test can show how quickly data downloads, but it does not establish that your route to a game server is steady.
Try these connection checks first
- Check for service maintenance or a wider outage. If PUBG Mobile will not launch or connect, its Help Center says the app cannot run during server maintenance and advises checking the official community schedule. If several players encounter a sudden problem at once, wait for service recovery or report it rather than assuming a phone setting will fix a server-side issue.
- Compare Wi-Fi and mobile data. Close the game, switch connections, and try again in the same place and under similar match conditions. Garena recommends comparing both and using whichever behaves more steadily. On cellular data, confirm data is enabled and the signal is usable; moving to an area with better coverage may help. Garena’s regional guidance mentions 4G/LTE, but available network types depend on your carrier and location.
- Improve the Wi-Fi conditions. Move nearer to the router and reduce walls or other obstacles between it and the phone. If many people or devices share the connection, pause downloads, streaming, or other heavy use where practical. Garena identifies shared connection demand, reception, background apps, and provider routing as possible causes.
- Reduce background activity and restart. Close apps that are using data or running unnecessarily, then restart the phone. For an unstable home Wi-Fi connection, restart the router according to its maker’s instructions. Garena regional guidance includes a 30-second unplug-and-reconnect step, but router procedures vary. In one Free Fire connection-error case, Garena also suggests turning off battery saver.
These steps are checks, not guarantees. Avoid installing apps that promise to fix ping or boost performance: Garena says such tools often have little effect or are placebo. The available guidance does not establish that changing DNS, using a VPN, buying a router, or adding an accessory will reliably solve lag in either game.

If the ping looks steady but gameplay stutters
Reduce the game’s graphics or frame-rate load where those controls are available, close unused apps, and check whether the phone meets the game’s current requirements. PUBG Mobile’s support guidance for persistent problems also recommends freeing unnecessary app or data space, updating the operating system if possible, checking the network, and rebooting. It does not establish a particular graphics setting as a universal fix for PUBG Mobile.
Free Fire device requirements listed by Garena
Garena’s support page lists the following Free Fire configurations. It warns that minimum requirements may let the game run without making it perform smoothly. Requirements can change and may vary by region or game edition, so check the current listing for your version before relying on these figures. They are not PUBG Mobile specifications.

Work out whether the network, provider, or phone is responsible
Change one variable at a time and note whether the problem follows a particular connection or device. If one network consistently performs poorly while another works in the same place, contact the affected ISP or mobile carrier and describe the issue. Garena recommends this comparison. If the same connection works on another phone, the original phone or its SIM reception may need inspection; a repair service can help assess the device.
For PUBG Mobile trouble that remains after its basic checks, contact support with the phone model and operating-system version. For a Free Fire bug report, Garena asks players to include a clear screenshot or recording, UID, mode, map, and match time including the hour. Those details help support distinguish a repeatable gameplay issue from a connection or device problem.

What Garena has said about high ping in Free Fire
In an October 1, 2023 developer post, Garena said it was focusing on the high-ping problem because it could cause “damage bugs.” The same post described a plan for a “Duo Network Connection” feature that would detect whether Wi-Fi or cellular was better and switch to that connection. That dated statement describes a plan; it does not establish that the feature is available in the current app or where to find it.
