If lights appear to pass through walls in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022), first identify the mode and exact location, then try the low-risk steps below. There is no officially confirmed fix for this specific symptom: Activision’s visible known-issues list, updated February 27, 2026, does not name it. A campaign mission restart is an unverified player-facing workaround, while Activision’s PC advice covers general troubleshooting rather than this lighting problem.
First, identify which lighting problem you have
“Lights through walls” can describe different visual effects. A hard beam or light source visibly crossing solid geometry is not necessarily the same issue as bright halos around edges, an overexposed image, or flickering. Third-party reports describe campaign-specific symptoms, including in Alone, Prison Break, and Ghost Team, while other guides discuss broader glare. Those reports do not establish one shared cause.
Before changing settings, note the mode, mission or map, and exact location where the effect appears. Record whether it happens every time, and capture a short video or screenshot if possible. On PC, also note the game build, GPU and driver version; on any platform, record HDR and VRR status if enabled. These details help distinguish a repeatable location-specific effect from a broader display or rendering issue.
Try these steps in order
1. On PC, let shader preloading finish
Activision’s PC troubleshooting guide, published April 26, 2023, says shader preloading is important during the first boot process. It also warns that leaving the main menu stops preloading and can lead to performance issues. Wait for preloading to complete before entering a match or campaign mission, then check the same location again.

2. Restart the affected campaign mission
A third-party guide recommends restarting the affected mission from its beginning and allowing shader optimization to finish. Treat this as an unverified workaround, not an official fix: there is no Activision confirmation that it resolves lights passing through walls. After the restart, return to the same location and compare the effect.
3. Verify the game files on PC
If the symptom persists, Activision’s general PC guidance supports checking the installation for damaged or missing files. Use the launcher where you own the game:

- Battle.net: use Scan and Repair for the game.
These are general troubleshooting actions, not a guaranteed remedy for this particular visual symptom.
4. Isolate graphics or display settings one at a time
Third-party troubleshooting material suggests testing options such as bloom, HDR, ray tracing, upscaling, or display settings. No cited evidence establishes any one of them as the cause of this MWII symptom. If you test them, write down the original values, change only one setting at a time, restart the game between tests, and revisit the same location. Restore any change that worsens visibility or stability.

What if the issue remains?
Activision’s known-issues page does not currently list lights passing through walls as a tracked issue. That absence does not mean players cannot experience it; it means the page does not confirm it as an officially tracked defect. Activision directs players to the MWII bug-report form when their issue is not listed. Include your platform, mode and mission or map, location, reproduction steps, relevant settings, and a short capture if the form allows it.

Activision’s 2023 PC guide listed NVIDIA 526.86, AMD 22.9.1, and Intel 31.0.101.4972 as recommended versions at that time. Those are historical recommendations, not current 2026 driver advice. For a current driver, check your GPU maker’s official support information and Activision’s current guidance; do not treat an old version number as a present-day recommendation.
