If Make Way lags online on Nintendo Switch, first check whether the problem happens only during online multiplayer or also when players share one screen. For online lag, run the Switch connection test, then troubleshoot the network one change at a time. The available Nintendo guidance covers general Switch latency; it does not confirm a current Make Way-specific bug or guaranteed fix.
First, tell online lag from local lag
Make Way supports up to six players on one screen or online, and Nintendo lists cross-platform online multiplayer. Nintendo’s game listing establishes those modes, but not that lag is caused by a particular Switch defect.
Compare the two ways of playing: does the issue occur online, in same-screen play, or both? Online symptoms may include players jumping around, delayed control response, or disconnects. If same-screen play is smooth but online play is not, start with the network checks below. This comparison helps narrow the problem; it does not by itself identify whether the cause is your connection, another player’s connection, the route between players, or game software.
Troubleshoot Make Way online lag on Switch
Nintendo identifies slow internet speeds, weak wireless signal, wireless interference, and slow network-device response as common sources of latency. It does not give a universal speed threshold for Make Way. Run a connection test first, then retest after each change so you can tell whether that change helped.

- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
- Test the Switch connection. On the console, open System Settings → Internet → Test Connection. Note whether the test succeeds and the results it displays. A successful test does not guarantee that every online game session will be lag-free.
- Try wired networking if your setup supports it. The original Switch needs a compatible LAN adapter connected to its dock and an Ethernet cable to the router or gateway. The Switch OLED dock has a LAN port. Nintendo’s wired-play instructions require the console to be docked in TV mode. This is a way to test whether Wi-Fi is contributing; it is not a guaranteed fix for lag caused elsewhere.
- Improve the Wi-Fi conditions. If you use wireless, move the console closer to the router. Nintendo suggests roughly 10–15 feet during troubleshooting. Move metal objects and electronic devices away from the console and router where practical, since they can interfere with wireless signal.
- Restart the modem and router. Unplug both devices and wait 30 seconds. Reconnect the modem first and wait for its lights to become steady; then reconnect the router and wait until it is ready.
- Retest after each change. Test the Switch connection and try the game again before making another adjustment. If an error code appears, use Nintendo’s guidance for that code. For router firmware or factory-reset instructions, consult the router manufacturer rather than guessing at settings.

If the problem is local communication between consoles
If you mean multiplayer between nearby Switch consoles rather than online play, Nintendo’s local communication troubleshooting is a better fit than the online-latency steps. Update both consoles and the game, confirm internet connectivity where applicable, and test local communication with another game.

If another game connects successfully, Nintendo says the original software may need game-specific troubleshooting. That result points toward the software as a place to investigate; it does not prove Make Way has a known defect. See Nintendo’s local wireless play troubleshooting.

If the issue persists after the relevant checks, use Nintendo’s error-code guidance or contact Nintendo Support for console or connection problems. If the problem appears limited to Make Way, report the symptoms to the game’s publisher or developer as well. The official materials cited here do not establish a current Switch-specific Make Way lag bug, patch, or workaround, so avoid assuming that a network change will resolve a game-side or remote-player issue.
