Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteStart by identifying exactly what has stopped working: headset world tracking, hand or controller tracking, Wi-Fi, controller pairing, or controller buttons. These are different faults, and a controller that appears in VR but ignores button presses is not necessarily a tracking or pairing problem.
Identify the problem before changing settings
Note what you see when the fault occurs. This helps you avoid applying a reset intended for one problem to a different one.
- Headset tracking: The virtual environment loses its position, shifts, or stops responding to your movement.
- Hand or controller tracking: Your hands or a controller disappear, drift, or fail to follow movement.
- Wi-Fi: The headset cannot connect to a wireless network or loses its connection.
- Controller pairing: A controller will not connect to the headset.
- Controller input: A controller is visible and tracked, but its buttons do not register.
Meta’s developer documentation covers controller input and tracking, including Touch Plus controllers, but it is written for developers rather than as consumer repair instructions. Do not use engine configuration guidance as a substitute for Meta’s current consumer support steps: Meta developer documentation on controllers.
Fix a Quest 3 controller that is tracked but does not respond
Check whether the controller is receiving power
If the controller appears in VR but button presses do nothing, first check for signs that it is receiving power. In a Meta Community Forums thread about a Quest 3 controller that paired but did not register buttons, Meta Community Manager MetaStoreHelp advised checking power before trying a controller-level reset. This was community support in an older thread, not a current consumer support bulletin: Meta Community Forums: “Quest 3 controller pairs but none of the buttons work”.

Check current Meta instructions before resetting the controller
In that same thread, a Meta Community Manager gave separate reset combinations: hold X and tap Menu five times for the left controller; hold A and tap the Home (Meta logo) button five times for the right controller. Because the instructions are from an older forum response and software can change, confirm the currently supported procedure with Meta Quest Help before using those combinations. A controller reset is not the same as resetting the headset.
What to do about headset or hand-and-controller tracking
First determine whether the headset itself loses its position in the room or whether only a hand or controller stops tracking. Those observations distinguish headset tracking from controller tracking, but the available verified information does not establish current Quest 3 consumer menu paths or a complete step-by-step fix for either fault. Use current Meta Quest Help for instructions that match your device and software; avoid applying generic or developer-only procedures.

What to do about Wi-Fi problems
Confirm whether the headset cannot join the network or joins but later drops its connection. The verified information here does not establish a current Quest 3 consumer troubleshooting procedure or menu path for either case. Check Meta Quest Help for current steps rather than assuming a particular router change or headset setting will resolve it.
Keep a headset factory reset as a separate escalation
A headset factory reset is a more substantial step than resetting a controller. Do not use it as an early fix for controller button input, tracking, or Wi-Fi, and do not confuse it with a controller-level reset. Meta maintains a dedicated Quest factory-reset help page; consult its current instructions and implications before proceeding.

When to contact Meta Support
If the appropriate current troubleshooting steps do not restore function, contact Meta Quest Support before deciding that the headset or controller needs replacement. The symptom alone does not establish hardware failure or identify the correct replacement part. Meta lists Quest 3 as a device option on its product-selection page; that identifies the product, not a remedy for a fault.
