Minecraft Dungeons II supports online cross-play, but a failed invite or join attempt does not point to one confirmed universal fix. Start by checking that you are both setting up an online session, then try the low-risk account, hero, version, and console-subscription checks below.
Make sure you are trying to join an online session
The Minecraft Dungeons II FAQ lists couch co-op, online play through cross-play, and mixed co-op, where local players can join additional players online. Its listed platforms are Windows, Steam, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Xbox Wire also describes online play with friends, matchmaking, local multiplayer, and combinations of those modes, with up to four players in online or couch co-op (Xbox Wire, 2026).

Check that the person hosting has started an online session and that the joining player is using the online option. Couch co-op is local play; it is not itself a remote invite. The official FAQ confirms cross-play in general, but does not document every supported platform pairing or provide a troubleshooting matrix, so it cannot establish that every combination has been independently verified.

Try an online hero
A launch-week guide from Dungeons2DB summarizes player reports that offline and online heroes are separate, and that an offline hero may not join an online session. If your current hero will not join, try creating a new hero with the online option. This is a player-reported lead, not a confirmed rule in the official FAQ; do not delete or overwrite your existing hero. Dungeons2DB’s guide cautions that its suggested fixes are not guaranteed.

Check sign-in on both sides
Confirm that each player is signed in to the appropriate Microsoft account and their platform account. Account sign-in is another check recommended by the third-party Dungeons2DB guide, not an official Mojang troubleshooting instruction.

Compare game versions
Make sure both players are running the same game version. The Dungeons2DB guide recommends this check, but the official FAQ does not specify version-matching steps or identify a version-related error.

Check console online-play requirements
The official Minecraft Dungeons II FAQ says online console multiplayer and co-op require a platform-specific online subscription, sold separately. Check the current requirement and subscription status for each console platform involved. The FAQ does not say that PC players need a console subscription.

If cross-play still will not connect
Record what happens before contacting support so the issue is easier to describe. Each player should note:

- Whether the selected hero was created for online play.
- Game version and whether both players are signed in.

The official feature information confirms cross-play, but the reviewed sources do not provide a guaranteed repair, a specific error-code fix, or evidence of a current server outage.
