If a 24/7 prerecorded church stream on YouTube has no sound, first determine whether the silence affects one viewer or the stream for everyone. Then trace the audio from the video file or mixer through any capture device and encoder, and compare what you hear in the encoder with a local recording and YouTube’s stream preview. Fix the first point where the signal disappears; don’t replace equipment until the checks point to a hardware fault.
First, find out who is affected
One viewer reports silence
Ask the viewer to try another device or internet connection and describe how they are watching. YouTube says an issue reported by one viewer is likely on that viewer’s computer or connection. Check the stream yourself before changing its audio settings.
Several viewers report silence
Ask whether those viewers share the same network. Multiple reports from one shared connection may point to a network issue; reports from viewers on separate connections make an encoder-side problem more plausible. YouTube recommends checking the stream and the number of viewer reports as part of this diagnosis. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance explains these distinctions.
Check YouTube’s stream health
Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room for the affected broadcast. Check the Health Indicator and note any error message and its timestamp. The indicator checks the stream sent to YouTube; an unresolved issue can continue to appear there. A “no audio” error means YouTube is receiving no audio stream, not merely that a viewer has turned down their speakers.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Read the specific warning before changing settings. YouTube identifies several possible format problems: no audio stream, multiple audio streams, an unsupported codec, or more than two audio channels. Some encoders also have a control that enables audio, so verify that audio is enabled in the encoder itself. See YouTube’s troubleshooting page and its live-stream error guidance.
Trace the audio from the source to the encoder
Confirm the recording or mixer output
Play the exact prerecorded file on a device where you can hear it. Confirm that the file has an audible audio track and that playback is not muted. If the stream combines prerecorded video with a mixer feed, check that the relevant mixer channel is unmuted, its gain is up, and the master output is active. OBS’s audio guidance recommends checking at the originating device first, then checking again as the signal reaches OBS. OBS Project’s Audio Mixer Guide provides that general approach.

Check every connection and input selection
Follow the actual signal path in your setup: media player or mixer, any camera or capture device, operating-system input, and then the encoder. At each stage confirm the cable is connected to the intended input and that the selected input matches the connected source. If a capture device is involved, check its audio input selection as well as its video input.
In OBS, play the media or service audio and look for movement on the intended source’s mixer meter. If there is no movement, check source selection, mute state, physical level, system and application volume, capture-device input, and operating-system permissions. System and application volume sliders can affect what OBS receives. A moving meter only confirms a signal has reached that point; it does not prove that the right track is included in the stream.

Verify the stream mix and selected track
Confirm the intended audio source is unmuted and routed to the encoder’s stream output. In OBS, inspect Advanced Audio Properties and check which audio track is assigned to the source, then confirm which track the stream output is using. Other encoders have their own routing controls, so use their current settings rather than assuming OBS’s controls or defaults apply.
A church-stream forum discussion describes a case where a video-capture source was not configured to receive audio from the capture device. That is one possible routing failure, not a universal diagnosis. Likewise, an OBS forum reply from 2018 referred to Track 1 as the default for that user’s setup; do not change tracks based on that old, setup-specific statement. Confirm the track selected in your own encoder.

Compare the encoder, a local recording, and YouTube
- Listen in the encoder. Check its preview or monitoring output while the prerecorded material plays. If the encoder has no audio, return to the source and routing checks above.
- Make a short local recording. Use the same sources and stream mix, then play the recording back. OBS recommends making and listening to a normal test recording before going live.
- Compare with YouTube. Listen to the Live Control Room preview and inspect its health messages. If the local recording and encoder sound correct but the YouTube stream does not, investigate the outgoing connection and any reported network errors. YouTube recommends inspecting the encoder output and local archive, and checking the outbound connection when the encoder sounds good but the stream does not. If connection problems remain, contact your internet provider.
Use the first point in that comparison where audio is missing to choose the next check. Audio reaching an OBS meter, for example, is not enough to establish that it was recorded or sent to YouTube.

For a format warning, compare the current encoder output with YouTube’s error details. YouTube Help lists H.264 video and AAC audio in its expected live-stream format guidance; its error details also list AAC or MP3 as supported audio codecs. YouTube requires one audio stream and supports mono or stereo—one or two channels—not more than two.

YouTube’s error guidance recommends an audio bitrate of 128 Kbps and a 44.1 kHz sample rate. The YouTube Live Streaming API documentation lists 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz as recommended sample rates. Follow the specific warning and the current settings available in your encoder; don’t alter a working format at random.
When to update, switch, or escalate
- If the encoder is out of date, update it and repeat the local-recording and stream checks.
- If the source and local archive do not explain bad output, YouTube suggests trying another encoder to isolate an encoder problem.
- If YouTube’s checks still do not resolve the issue, report it to YouTube with the error message and timestamp.
- Consider replacing a capture device or other hardware only when the signal path checks identify that device as the failure point. A purchase is not a general fix for a muted or misrouted source.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want to change how prerecorded material is kept live rather than troubleshoot the current encoder, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Every quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers; automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month.
StreamNeo does not repair a muted, misrouted, unassigned, or unsupported audio source; check that your uploaded material and playlist have the sound you intend to broadcast. Learn about StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
