If MLB The Show 26 is lagging in multiplayer on Nintendo Switch, first identify what “lag” means: delayed controls, players jumping around, matchmaking failures, and disconnects point to an online connection issue; choppy animation may instead be a performance issue. Nintendo’s troubleshooting guidance covers online latency, but the sources available do not confirm a Switch-specific frame-rate defect or a current MLB The Show 26 server incident. Use the steps below to test the network without assuming every slowdown has the same cause.
Tell network lag from choppy animation
- Delayed response, rubber-banding, or characters jumping around: These symptoms fit the latency Nintendo describes in its online latency guidance.
- Matchmaking errors or disconnects: Check the Switch’s connection and note its NAT type, download speed, and upload speed. Nintendo recommends these details when troubleshooting connection problems with other players: Nintendo’s matchmaking connection guidance.
- Choppy picture or uneven animation without connection symptoms: The cited Nintendo guidance does not diagnose frame-rate behavior in MLB The Show 26. Network changes may not address that kind of slowdown.
Nintendo identifies slow internet speeds, weak wireless signal, wireless interference, and slow response from network devices as possible latency causes. Its guidance also recommends testing the connection after each change rather than making several changes at once: Nintendo Support.

Test and improve the Switch connection
- Record a baseline. On the Switch, open System Settings → Internet → Test Connection. Record the result. If matchmaking fails or play disconnects, also note the displayed NAT type, download speed, and upload speed; these figures help describe the connection problem but are not by themselves proof of its cause.
- Improve the Wi-Fi path. Move the console closer to the router and reduce sources of wireless interference where practical. Run the connection test again and check whether the in-game symptom changes.
- Restart the network equipment. Power-cycle the modem and router, then retest. Nintendo advises testing after each change so you can tell whether it helped: Nintendo’s latency troubleshooting steps.
- Compare with a wired connection if playing docked. The original Switch dock requires a compatible USB LAN adapter for Ethernet. The Switch OLED dock has a built-in LAN port. Connect the dock to the router or gateway by Ethernet, then compare play with your Wi-Fi result. This can help isolate a wireless problem; it does not guarantee lower in-game delay or prove that the game itself is fixed. See Nintendo’s wired connection instructions.
Check whether the problem depends on an opponent
If the connection problem happens only against one opponent but not others, Nintendo says the other player’s network may be involved. Treat that as a clue about matchmaking or connectivity, not a definitive test of frame rate or server health. If the same symptoms continue across opponents and after testing the connection, check official MLB The Show support or status information for a current service notice; the cited sources do not establish a current MLB The Show 26 outage or confirmed Switch-specific defect.

The official MLB The Show 26 manual says Nintendo Switch versions of Co-Op, Ranked, Events, Weekend Classic, and Battle Royale require internet access and a Nintendo Switch Online membership, sold separately. The membership is an access requirement for those modes, not a lag fix.
