If Fortnite movement feels wrong, start by checking the controls for your input device and game mode. Keyboard players should pay particular attention to Custom Diagonal Movement: Epic said it reset that setting for everyone in its December 18, 2023 movement update. There is no single documented setting that fixes every movement complaint, so match the check to what feels off—diagonal movement, sprinting, camera feel, or controller input.
1. Check controls for your input device
- Open Fortnite’s in-game menu and select the gear icon.
- Choose the controls tab that matches how you play: mouse-and-keyboard or gamepad.
- Look for the relevant movement or input setting and review its current value or binding.

2. If keyboard diagonal movement feels wrong
Check Custom Diagonal Movement in the mouse-and-keyboard controls. In its December 18, 2023 update, Epic said it reset this setting for everyone and asked players to log in and reconfigure it to their preference. Adjust it until diagonal movement feels comfortable; the official guidance does not establish one ideal numeric setup for every player. Epic’s December 2023 movement update
3. If sprinting, bindings, or camera feel is the problem
Review the movement settings and the bindings for your input device rather than assuming the cause is diagonal movement. Epic’s competitive PC settings article discusses sprint settings and trying bindings that feel comfortable, but that is PC-focused advice—not a universal fix for every platform or game mode. Epic’s December 2023 Battle Royale update increased movement speed while crouching and running, reduced camera movement, and adjusted the view change while sprinting. Those documented changes provide context if the game feels different, but they do not identify the cause of an individual player’s current control problem. Read the update details
4. Don’t mistake a Creative setting for a Battle Royale toggle
Epic’s documentation describes Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 movement-tuning options in Fortnite Creative player settings. The setting lets creators choose movement tuning for their experiences; it is not evidence of a preference switch for Battle Royale. Epic says Chapter 5, released in December 2023, changed movement-speed tunings for Battle Royale and describes the Creative setting as a way to emulate those tunings. Similarly, the Hurdle Activation option in Epic’s v28.00 ecosystem update is described for Creative/UEFN gameplay under Game Settings > Movement. Describe the issue precisely when contacting support: your platform and input method, the game mode, what movement action is affected, and which settings or bindings you checked. The official guidance cited here covers settings and documented changes; it does not diagnose a specific controller, keyboard, platform fault, or active bug, nor establish a guaranteed remedy for every case.
