There is no confirmed universal fix for Nintendo Switch error code 2002-4153. Nintendo’s published support guidance does not identify this exact code or establish one cause. Try the low-risk software checks first, then narrow the problem down by whether the affected game is downloaded, stored on a microSD card, or played from a game card. Protect your save data before considering console initialization.
What error code 2002-4153 means—and what it doesn’t
The available Nintendo support guidance does not provide an exact-code diagnosis for 2002-4153. The code alone therefore does not prove that a microSD card, game card, save file, or console is defective. Nintendo’s instructions for corrupted-data symptoms, microSD recognition problems, and game-card read problems are useful troubleshooting paths, but they address related symptoms rather than confirming the cause of this specific code.

Start by noting the Switch model, whether the game is downloaded or on a physical game card, whether a microSD card is inserted, how many games are affected, and when the error appears. These details help you choose the relevant checks; they do not diagnose the fault by themselves.

For corrupted-data or software-error symptoms, Nintendo recommends checking for system and game updates, restarting an up-to-date console, and checking the affected title for corrupt data. Nintendo Support’s corrupted-data guidance provides the related procedure; follow the current instructions shown for your console and region.

- Check that the console’s system software is up to date. If it is already current, restart the console.
- Update the affected game.
- From the HOME Menu, open System Settings > Data Management > Manage Software, select the affected title, then choose Check for Corrupt Data if that option is available.
- If the check reports an issue, follow the console’s prompts. If it finds nothing, that result does not establish a cause for error 2002-4153; continue with the storage-specific checks below.
Use the storage branch that matches your game
Downloaded game or update on a microSD card
A microSD card is worth investigating when the affected software or its updates are stored there, but it is not a proven universal cause or fix for this code. Nintendo’s separate microSD recognition and read guidance applies when the console has trouble recognizing or reading a card. Use that guidance for the symptoms it covers rather than buying a replacement card as the first step.
A 2019 video by 5after12 describes testing a microSD card while investigating 2002-4153 after a card migration. That is one creator’s account, not a Nintendo diagnosis or evidence that replacing a card will resolve the error. Community reports also describe different setups, including consoles with physical game cards and consoles without a microSD card inserted.

Physical Nintendo Switch game card
If the affected title is on a physical game card, use Nintendo’s game-card read troubleshooting and confirm that the card is for Nintendo Switch software. A user report associates this error with a physical game card, but an individual report cannot establish whether the game card or console is responsible.
Several games, or only one?
If more than one title fails, note whether they share a storage location—for example, multiple downloaded titles on the same microSD card. If only one title fails, note whether it is digital or physical and whether the failure follows that title or storage medium. These comparisons can help you describe the problem to support; they are not conclusive hardware tests.

- Nintendo Switch 2 uses a new standard of expandable memory card called microSD Express (sold separately). This kind of memory card is needed for faster access speeds and to ensure games will run smoothly.
- Please note: Nintendo Switch 2 is only compatible with microSD Express cards. If the microSD cards you have used for Nintendo Switch do not support microSD Express standards, you cannot use them with Nintendo Switch 2.
Protect save data before initializing the console
Do not begin with a full factory reset. Nintendo describes a Maintenance Mode option called Initialize Console Without Deleting Save Data for situations where initialization is being considered. Nintendo says save data is tied to user accounts and stored in system memory, while software saved on a microSD card may no longer be usable after this process and may need to be downloaded again by the purchasing Nintendo Account. Read the current on-screen prompts carefully before proceeding.
Deleting or redownloading software is distinct from deleting save data, but do not assume every initialization option has the same consequences. Use Nintendo’s current corrupted-data and save-data instructions for the exact steps applicable to your console.

When to contact Nintendo Support
If the error persists after the applicable software and storage checks, Nintendo says the console and any game cards experiencing the problem may need service. Contact Nintendo Support for your region and share the details you recorded: console model, affected title, digital or physical format, microSD use, number of affected games, and when the error occurs. Service eligibility, cost, timing, and outcome depend on your region and case; confirm those details directly with Nintendo.
