A similar cross-network error can also point to an outdated Palworld dedicated server, so the right fix depends on your platform, the precise message, and how you are connecting.
What the error means
Microsoft’s Xbox Game Development Kit documentation associates the exact message “Sorry, you’re currently prevented from playing online multiplayer games” with an unavailable multiplayer-sessions privilege. For managed accounts, a parent or guardian can adjust Xbox privacy settings. Microsoft’s privilege documentation treats cross-network play as a separate permission, with different suggested wording: “Sorry, you’re currently prevented from playing with people on platforms other than the XBOX network.”

That distinction matters: the exact wording is a useful clue to an Xbox account restriction, not proof that every Palworld connection failure has the same cause. If you see the cross-network variant while joining a dedicated server, an outdated server version is another possible explanation.

Identify your platform and connection type
Before changing settings, note the platform and what you were doing when the error appeared. This helps separate an account-permission issue from an update or server mismatch.

Check Xbox multiplayer privacy permissions
If you play on Xbox or PC Game Pass and the message matches the multiplayer-sessions wording, check the Xbox account’s multiplayer permissions first. For a child or other managed account, ask the parent or guardian who manages it to review the Xbox privacy settings and allow multiplayer. If the message names cross-network play, check the separate cross-network permission as well.

Install any available Palworld update
Quit the game, check for a pending Palworld update in your platform’s game library, install it, then relaunch and try again. A January 2024 walkthrough specifically recommends checking Xbox → My Games & Apps → Updates; interface labels may change, so use the current update area on your console. This is a low-risk check, not a guaranteed fix.
If you play on Steam, verify the installed files
A January 2024 troubleshooting guide recommends clearing Steam’s download cache and verifying Palworld’s installed files. Start with file verification; only try clearing the cache if the simpler checks do not help. Steam’s menu labels can change, so look in the client’s settings and Palworld’s installed-game options for the current cache and file-verification controls. Some PC Game Pass players reported that launching the game as an administrator helped, while others said it did not. Treat that as an optional, anecdotal workaround rather than an established fix. Community reports are mixed.
If you are joining a dedicated server, check its version
Ask the server administrator to confirm that the Palworld dedicated server is updated to the same current patch as your client, then restart the server and try again. A hosting provider’s guide, updated August 20, 2026, identifies an older server version as a possible cause of the Xbox cross-network variant; this is provider guidance, not an official Pocketpair diagnosis. Escalate without risking your save
If account permissions, updates, and (for dedicated servers) version compatibility do not resolve the problem, contact the relevant platform or game support with your platform, exact error wording, and whether you were joining a dedicated server. The available reports do not establish that this error generally means a save is corrupted, so do not delete or replace a save based on this message alone.
