Fix Ready or Not problems in this order: confirm your PC meets the 64-bit Windows and hardware baseline, close memory-hungry background and overlay programs, update Windows and device drivers, verify the Steam installation, then lower graphics settings one at a time. This sequence separates an under-specification problem from a corrupted install, driver conflict, RAM pressure, storage delay, or a graphics setting that your hardware cannot sustain.
There is no single universal fix. Steam Support says, “Simply meeting the system requirements does not mean you’ll have high FPS or strong in-game performance.” Hardware and software configuration both affect the result, so test one change at a time and record what happens.

Check the official PC requirements first
Use the published requirements as a stability floor, not as an FPS promise. Steam Support lists the following baseline for the PC version (accessed October 18, 2026):

These figures describe whether a system is within the published target, not the frame rate it will produce. Steam specifically notes that performance varies with hardware and software configuration. A PC at the minimum can launch the game yet still show low FPS, long frame times, texture streaming pauses, or crashes when a map and background workload push it past its available resources.

What to check on your computer
- Press
Win + R, entermsinfo32, and confirm the Windows edition is 64-bit. - Open
dxdiagand check that DirectX 11-capable graphics hardware is present. - In Task Manager, note installed and available memory while the game is closed and while a match is running.
- Confirm at least 60 GB is free on the drive containing the game. Leave additional headroom if that drive is nearly full.
- Record the exact GPU model and VRAM amount; “GTX 960” and “GTX 1060” are not interchangeable, and the 2 GB and 6 GB variants have different limits.
If the machine is below the minimum, treat crashes and severe stutter as expected compatibility risks. Do not spend time searching for a graphics-setting combination that can make unsupported hardware reliable.
Why the game crashes, stutters, or runs slowly
Steam identifies several practical causes: background processes, insufficient available RAM, outdated drivers, excessive resolution or video settings, and slow storage read times. These causes can look similar, so the timing of the fault matters.
- Crash before the main menu: suspect a driver, damaged installation, incompatible overlay, or a graphics-device initialization failure.
- Crash while loading or changing maps: check free storage, installation files, available RAM, and applications that hook into 3D rendering.
- Brief pauses while moving through a level: memory pressure and storage reads are plausible contributors.
- Consistently low FPS: resolution, expensive video options, or a GPU/CPU bottleneck is more likely than a one-time file error.
- Stutter that appears after other programs are opened: check RAM saturation and overlays before changing game settings.
Unreal Engine’s GPU-crash guidance recommends checking for other 3D applications and collecting crash details. That guidance helps isolate device-reset failures, but it does not establish one Ready or Not-specific root cause.
Prepare a clean test before changing settings
A controlled test prevents you from “fixing” one symptom while another program remains responsible.

- Restart Windows. This clears processes and memory left by previous sessions.
- Launch only Steam and Ready or Not. Temporarily close browsers with many tabs, recording or streaming software, RGB-control utilities, hardware monitors, chat overlays, and other 3D applications.
- Open Task Manager with
Ctrl + Shift + Esc. On the Processes tab, watch memory and GPU use while reproducing the problem. If memory approaches 100 percent, close nonessential programs and retest. - Write down the symptom and trigger: startup, menu, loading screen, map transition, or a specific point during a match. Copy the exact error text instead of paraphrasing it.
- Change only one setting or system variable per test. Run the same map or scenario long enough to reproduce the issue, then record whether the change helped.
Step-by-step fix sequence
1. Remove background and overlay pressure
Insufficient available RAM can force Windows to swap data to disk, producing noticeable FPS impact and hitching. Close programs that consume memory or inject an overlay into the game. Include browser windows, recorders, RGB utilities, performance overlays, and other 3D software in your first test.
Do not stack several tuning utilities while diagnosing. Multiple monitoring, overclocking, or overlay tools can complicate a crash and make it harder to identify which program is involved. If the game becomes stable after a clean launch, re-enable applications one at a time until the conflict is identified.
2. Update Windows and device drivers
Install pending Windows updates, then update the CPU chipset, graphics, and audio drivers using the hardware manufacturer’s official packages. Steam lists outdated drivers as a cause of reduced FPS. Reboot after installation before testing.
For diagnosis, avoid applying a new overclock, undervolt, frame limiter, or third-party “optimizer” at the same time as the driver update. First test at stock settings. If a driver update introduces a new failure, note the previous and current versions so support can evaluate the change.

3. Verify the Steam installation
An interrupted update or damaged file can cause startup and loading crashes. In Steam:
- Open Library.
- Right-click Ready or Not and choose Properties.
- Select Installed Files.
- Choose Verify integrity of game files and wait for the process to finish.
- Restart Steam and test the same reproduction case.
Verification repairs files Steam can identify; it does not repair a failing drive, a bad driver, or a system that is out of memory. If the crash remains, keep the timing, error text, and verification result for escalation.
4. Reduce resolution and graphics load methodically
Steam notes that higher resolution and video options immediately reduce FPS, and that every machine behaves differently. Start at a sensible resolution for your monitor, then lower the options that impose the largest GPU workload. Test after each change rather than dropping everything to Low at once.

If FPS remains low even after a large reduction in visual settings, the limiting component may not be the GPU. Check CPU usage, RAM availability, and storage activity rather than assuming another graphics option will solve it.

5. Check storage and memory conditions
Steam identifies storage read times as a practical performance factor. A nearly full or slow drive can lengthen loading and contribute to streaming pauses. Confirm the game’s drive has at least the required 60 GB free and avoid running heavy file transfers or backups during testing.
Watch Task Manager for memory saturation. With 8 GB installed, Windows and background applications can leave little headroom for the game. Closing applications may be enough for a diagnostic result; if it is not, a compatible RAM upgrade is a hardware option, not a guaranteed cure for every crash or stutter.
6. Test for conflicts with other 3D applications
Unreal Engine GPU-crash documentation advises checking for other programs that use or hook into 3D rendering. Run the game with overlays and other 3D applications closed. If the crash disappears, reintroduce those programs individually and keep the one that triggers the failure disabled while playing.

7. Treat local configuration edits as optional experiments
A Steam community discussion reports that disabling RTX settings in the local configuration helped some users. This is anecdotal and is not a developer-validated Ready or Not fix. Use it only after the baseline, driver, verification, and clean-launch checks.
- Close the game and Steam if the configuration file may be in use.
- Back up the relevant local configuration file to another folder.
- Change only the RTX-related setting described by the community instructions; do not combine several undocumented edits.
- Launch the game and reproduce the original problem.
- Restore the backup if the result is worse or the game fails to start.
Because community configuration locations and labels can change between updates, do not delete files or copy settings from an unknown source without a backup.

It crashes before startup
- Confirm Windows is 64-bit and the GPU supports DirectX 11.
- Close overlays and other 3D applications.
- Update graphics and audio drivers.
- Verify the Steam installation.
- Record the exact error and whether the crash occurs before or after the first loading screen.
It crashes during loading or a map transition
- Check that the game drive has at least 60 GB free and is not handling another heavy read or write job.
- Check available RAM and close browsers, recorders, and other memory-heavy programs.
- Verify files after an interrupted update.
- Test with overlays and 3D applications disabled.
It stutters but does not crash
- Watch memory usage for swapping.
- Check storage activity during the hitch.
- Lower resolution or demanding video settings one at a time.
- Compare the same map and location after each change.
FPS is low everywhere
- Compare the system with the minimum and recommended GPU requirements.
- Lower resolution and graphics options to determine whether the GPU is the bottleneck.
- Check CPU, RAM, and storage activity; a GPU upgrade will not correct a CPU or memory limit.
- Do not infer an expected FPS number from the requirements: no authoritative benchmark table establishes FPS for every CPU and GPU combination.
When a hardware upgrade makes sense
Upgrade only after measuring the limiting component. Steam states that a RAM or GPU upgrade can help when that component is the bottleneck, but no universal upgrade fixes every crash or stutter.

Match the upgrade to evidence from Task Manager and repeatable tests. Buying a faster GPU while RAM is saturated, or buying an SSD for a GPU-limited system, spends money without addressing the measured constraint.
Collect evidence and contact support
If the sequence above does not resolve the crash, use the official support path listed on Steam for VOID Interactive. Send a concise report containing:
- CPU model, GPU model and VRAM, installed RAM, and storage type.
- 64-bit Windows edition and build.
- Graphics, chipset, and audio driver versions.
- The exact game error text, if any.
- Reproduction steps and the point of failure: startup, loading, map transition, or mid-match.
- Whether overlays, recorders, or other 3D applications were running.
- The result of Steam file verification and any configuration change you tested.
- Relevant crash logs requested by support.
Epic’s GPU-crash guidance explains why isolating other 3D applications and preserving crash details can help diagnose device-reset failures. It is diagnostic guidance, not proof that every Ready or Not crash has the same cause.
The practical order that avoids wasted fixes
Begin with the published baseline and a clean launch. Remove background resource pressure, update Windows and drivers, verify files, and then tune resolution and graphics options one at a time. Check memory and storage activity before buying hardware, and use a compatible RAM kit, a suitable GPU, or an SSD only when measurements show that component is limiting performance. Keep configuration edits reversible, document the exact trigger, and escalate with complete system and crash information when the problem persists.
