RLCraft server mod rejections almost always mean the client and server disagree about the modpack release, Minecraft version, Forge build, a mod jar, or a dependency. The reliable fix is to establish one known-good baseline, reinstall from the official RLCraft client and server-pack files, then investigate the specific mod named in the rejection instead of changing unrelated files.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
For the official RLCraft 1.12.2 v2.9.x line, the baseline is Forge 1.12.2-14.23.5.2860. The official project lists both RLCraft 1.12.2 – Release v2.9.3.zip and RLCraft Server Pack 1.12.2 – Release v2.9.3.zip. Treat those as a matched pair; do not mix files from another release or from a different Forge build.

What “server mod rejections” means
During login, Forge performs a mod handshake. The client announces its installed mods and versions, while the server checks whether those entries match what it can load. A rejection is the server refusing the connection because the handshake, a mod’s network check, or dependency validation failed.
The message is not a general diagnosis. A line naming one mod is usually the most useful clue. For example, a rejection that identifies LootTweaker points you toward that jar, its version, and its dependencies before you touch the rest of the installation. A message mentioning a loader or a missing dependency requires a different repair than a duplicate-file problem.

What must match
- The same RLCraft release on both sides, including the same 1.12.2 pack revision.
- Minecraft 1.12.2 and a compatible Forge 1.12.2 build. RLCraft v2.9 requires Forge build 2860, packaged as 14.23.5.2860.
- The same gameplay-mod filenames and builds, with the same required dependencies.
- A Forge-compatible jar for every installed mod; a Fabric, newer Minecraft, or otherwise wrong-loader file cannot be substituted.
A dedicated server pack can intentionally omit files that only render graphics or provide a client interface. Do not “fix” that difference by copying every client-only enhancement to the server. Instead, use the official server pack and remove extra client additions while diagnosing the rejection.
Establish the correct RLCraft baseline
| Item | Required baseline for the v2.9 line | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| RLCraft release | v2.9.3 is the release currently listed by the official project as of October 15, 2026 | Use the matching client archive and server-pack archive, not a mixture of revisions. |
| Minecraft | 1.12.2 | Check the launcher instance and the server installation before changing mods. |
| Forge | 1.12.2-14.23.5.2860 (Forge 2860) | Verify the loader shown by the client and the server startup output. |
| Server files | RLCraft Server Pack 1.12.2 – Release v2.9.3.zip | Use this as the source for a clean dedicated-server installation. |
The official CurseForge project page records 30,341,521 downloads as of its 2026 page access date. That number indicates the pack’s distribution, not a guaranteed success rate or a benchmark for repairing a rejection.

Capture the evidence before changing anything
Changing several files at once destroys the clues that identify the failing component. First preserve the complete rejection screen and the latest server log. Record the exact mod ID, displayed version, filename, and any text such as NetworkCheckHandler, “missing dependency,” or “wrong modloader.”
- Close the client after taking a screenshot or copying the full rejection text.
- Stop the server normally so its latest log is flushed to disk.
- Open the newest server log and search for the named mod ID,
ERROR,Exception, missing, dependency, andNetworkCheckHandler. - Write down the client’s RLCraft release, Minecraft version, Forge build, and the exact server startup version.
- Make a backup of the server directory before deleting or replacing jars.
The first named mod is a lead, not proof that every other file is correct. Keep the original log so you can compare it with the log produced after each controlled change.

Use a clean official installation first
The fastest way to eliminate accumulated edits is to rebuild from the official pair of archives. This is preferable to copying individual files from an old server because stale configuration and duplicate jars can keep a rejection alive.
Clean client profile
- Create a new launcher or modpack profile for the official RLCraft v2.9.3 client archive.
- Confirm that the profile is Minecraft 1.12.2 and reports Forge 14.23.5.2860.
- Do not add OptiFine, performance mods, shaders, or personal jars yet.
- Launch once, reach the title screen, and exit. This creates a known-good client directory without introducing third-party changes.
Clean dedicated server
- Make a new server directory rather than overwriting the existing one.
- Extract the official RLCraft Server Pack 1.12.2 – Release v2.9.3.zip into that directory.
- Run the supplied Forge server startup process once, accept the EULA as required by your installation, and stop the server after it creates its files.
- Do not copy the old
mods, config, or generated world into this test directory until a clean connection succeeds. - Start the server again and test with the clean client profile.
If the clean pair connects, the original rejection was caused by an added, changed, duplicated, or stale file. Reintroduce customizations one at a time, restarting and testing after each change.
Manual installation: empty Mods and Config first
The official RLCraft instructions specifically warn manual installers to make sure there is nothing in the Mods or Config folders before copying those folders from the modpack. This prevents old jars and settings from surviving a pack update.
- Stop the server and back up the entire directory.
- Move the existing
modsfolder out of the server directory instead of deleting it permanently. - Move the existing
configfolder out as well. Do not merge files into the new folder. - Extract the matching
modsandconfigfolders from the v2.9.3 pack into the server directory. - Check that each folder contains one copy of each jar and that the files came from the same archive revision.
- Start the server, inspect the log for Forge and mod-loading errors, and then connect with the matching clean client.
Keeping the old folders outside the installation gives you a rollback copy without allowing obsolete settings or jars to participate in the test.

Compare client and server mod jars systematically
Do not compare only the number of files. A jar can have the right name but the wrong build, or two different filenames can provide the same mod ID. Compare the actual filenames, versions shown in the logs, and loader compatibility.
| Check | Client action | Server action | Typical correction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Duplicate jars | Look for two builds of the same mod. | Look for old and new copies, including renamed downloads. | Keep the one version required by the pack and remove the duplicate from both sides. |
| Missing dependency | Read the dependency line in the client log. | Read the complete server startup error. | Restore the dependency from the same pack revision; do not substitute an unrelated build. |
| Wrong loader | Remove files tagged for Fabric, another Minecraft version, or another loader. | Remove the same incompatible addition from the server. | Install the Forge 1.12.2 build explicitly supported by the pack. |
| Version mismatch | Note the exact jar version in the profile. | Note the exact jar version in the server log. | Replace or roll back the jar on both sides. |
| Client-only addition | Temporarily remove it from the test profile. | Keep it out of the dedicated server unless the mod documentation explicitly requires server installation. | Retest without optional additions. |
CurseForge support identifies duplicate mods, invalid or missing manifest references, wrong modloaders, and dependencies as common causes of rejection or loading failure. In a manually installed server, those checks translate into a file-by-file comparison and a clean dependency set.

When the rejection names a specific mod
A named mod gives you a narrow diagnostic path. Search the full log for every occurrence of its mod ID, not just the final “rejected” line. Look for the loaded version, required dependencies, Forge range, and the first exception that appears before the handshake failure.
- Write down the mod ID and version exactly as displayed.
- Locate the corresponding jar in both
modsfolders. The filename may include a build number that is not obvious from the in-game name. - Check whether both jars are Forge 1.12.2 files and whether the pack’s other mods expect a particular version.
- Remove duplicate copies and replace the named jar with the compatible pack version on both client and server.
- Restart both sides and test again. If the message changes to a missing dependency, resolve that dependency before making another mod change.
CurseForge’s loader guidance is explicit: update a mod to a compatible version or roll it back to a version that works with the installed modloader. A mod updated after the pack was released may no longer support Forge 2860 even if its name is unchanged.

LootTweaker and “Failed mod’s custom NetworkCheckHandler”
A documented RLCraft case from January 15, 2022 reported: LootTweaker: Failed mod's custom NetworkCheckHandler FMLMod:loottweaker{0,3,1}. The response advised downgrading the mod and replacing it on both the server and client.
Use that case as a workflow example, not as a universal guarantee that version 0.3.1 is wrong in every installation. Your exact RLCraft revision, dependency set, and log determine the compatible file. If your rejection names LootTweaker:
- Confirm the displayed version and the jar filename on both sides.
- Check the log for the version of its scripting or library dependencies.
- Use the LootTweaker build intended for your RLCraft/Forge baseline, or roll back to the last build that the matched pack loads.
- Replace the jar on both client and server; changing only one side leaves the handshake asymmetric.
- Delete any second LootTweaker jar, restart, and test with no optional performance additions.
Remove optional additions while isolating the fault
Optional visual and performance mods can obscure a core pack problem. The official RLCraft page warns that E3 OptiFine crashes, recommends the 1.12.2 G5 OptiFine build instead, and states that VanillaFix and BetterFPS are not compatible with RLCraft.
For a rejection test, remove OptiFine, VanillaFix, BetterFPS, shaders, and other personal additions from the client. Remove any of those files from the server if you copied them there. First prove that the unmodified official client and server connect. Then add only one explicitly compatible optional file at a time. A successful connection before an addition and a rejection immediately after it identifies the addition as the next thing to investigate.

Check server properties after the mod handshake is fixed
Some configuration errors do not cause the initial mod rejection but can make a repaired server appear broken in play. The official RLCraft instructions require enable-command-block=true in server.properties; otherwise some structures may not generate correctly and villagers may be missing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Stop the server before editing the file.
- Open
server.propertiesin a plain-text editor. - Set the line to
enable-command-block=true, with no extra quotation marks. - Save, start the server, and verify in the startup log that it reaches a ready state.
This setting does not replace matching Forge and mods. Apply it after the client can pass the handshake, or you risk confusing a gameplay-generation issue with a connection rejection.
Test each repair without reintroducing variables
Use a controlled test cycle rather than repeatedly launching a heavily modified profile.
- Stop the server and record the current log.
- Make one change: replace one jar, remove one duplicate, restore one dependency, or remove one optional addition.
- Start the server and wait for its normal ready message. If startup fails, the new log is already pointing at the change.
- Launch the clean matching client and connect.
- Record whether the result is a successful login, a changed rejection, or a new loading error.
- Keep the successful change and proceed to the next customization only after a stable connection.
If the clean client still fails against a clean official server pack, recheck the RLCraft archive, Minecraft version, Forge build, Java/runtime setup used by that installation, and the complete server log before adding anything. The supplied evidence establishes the pack and loader requirements but does not provide a universal repair time or success percentage.
Choosing between two proposed fixes
| Question | Prefer the fix that… | Reject the fix if it… |
|---|---|---|
| Release and loader | Keeps both sides on the same RLCraft release, Minecraft 1.12.2, and Forge 14.23.5.2860 baseline. | Requires mixing pack revisions or changing Forge without a documented compatibility reason. |
| Mod file | Replaces the named jar with the exact compatible build on both sides. | Changes several unrelated mods at once or updates to an unverified latest release. |
| Dependencies | Restores every required library from the same pack revision. | Suppresses the dependency error or leaves duplicate versions installed. |
| Scope | Addresses the named mod or loader error with the smallest necessary change. | Deletes configuration, worlds, or unrelated files before a backup is made. |
| Validation | Is tested with a clean client and a fresh server restart. | Is declared fixed only because the server starts, without a client connection test. |
When to report the problem
If the rejection remains after a clean matched installation, prepare a useful report rather than posting only “server mod rejection.” Include the full rejection text, the latest server log, the client log, the RLCraft release, Minecraft version, Forge build, the named mod and version, and a list of any files you added or removed.
CurseForge guidance asks for the exact rejection message and the submitted file when automated advice is insufficient. Preserve the original and post-repair logs so maintainers can see which line changed. Do not upload private credentials, server addresses, or world data that is unrelated to the loading failure.
