Start with the DLL name—not a DLL download
Roblox DLL errors do not have one universal fix. A missing or damaged MFPlat.dll points to a different problem than MSVCP*.dll, VCRUNTIME*.dll, urlmon.dll, or an error naming a Roblox application file. The correct repair depends on the exact message, your Windows edition, and whether you installed Roblox from the website or the Microsoft Store.

Before changing anything, record the exact error
Copy or photograph the entire message. Record the following:
- The complete DLL filename, including its extension and capitalization.
- The complete error code, if one appears.
- Your Windows edition, such as Windows 10 Home, Windows 11 Pro, or Windows 11 Pro N.
- Your Windows version and build. Press Win+R, type
winver, and press Enter. - Whether Roblox came from the official Roblox website or the Microsoft Store.
- Whether the error appeared after a Windows update, graphics-driver update, antivirus detection, or installation of another Roblox-related program.
This information matters because “a DLL error” describes a symptom, not a diagnosis. Roblox’s support guidance also asks users who remain stuck to provide the exact error and system information.

1. Restart Windows and try Roblox again
Close Roblox, the Roblox launcher, your browser, and other game launchers. Restart Windows rather than merely signing out. Then launch Roblox once, before changing additional files or installing third-party repair tools.

A restart can release a file locked by an updater, complete a pending installation, and reload security or driver components. If the same error returns, continue with the steps below.
2. Reinstall Roblox from an official source
Roblox’s own reinstall guidance recommends reinstalling because the process can replace missing or damaged application files. Use the same official channel you normally use first; do not install a modified client, injector, unofficial launcher, or “DLL fixer.”
Website installation
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Roblox and select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Download and install Roblox again from the official Roblox website.
Microsoft Store installation
Roblox identifies the newer Microsoft Store application as Roblox – Windows. This is different from the older Store listing named simply Roblox.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Roblox or Roblox – Windows.
- Select the application, choose Uninstall, and restart Windows.
- Reinstall the official Store application from Microsoft Store.
Remove leftover Roblox files only when necessary
If a normal uninstall and reinstall did not help, close Roblox and open File Explorer. Click the address bar, enter %localappdata%, and press Enter. Delete the Roblox folder if it remains and persistent local-file corruption is suspected. Then restart Windows and reinstall Roblox from the official website or the official Store application.
Do not delete random Windows DLLs or copy replacement files into this folder. If the installer itself reports a Windows DLL error, skip repeated Roblox reinstalls and move to the Windows-repair and named-DLL sections.

Test Roblox immediately after reinstalling, before reinstalling overlays, auto-clickers, capture utilities, unofficial clients, or other game tools. That makes it easier to identify what changed.
3. Check antivirus quarantine and firewall blocking
Security software can sometimes flag a legitimate Roblox executable or DLL as a false positive, or block Roblox from starting. Roblox documents antivirus false positives, firewall interference, and its usual local installation area under:
C:Users<username>AppDataLocalRoblox
Review quarantine or protection history
- Open your antivirus or endpoint-security application.
- Open Protection history, Quarantine, Detected threats, or the equivalent area.
- Look for a Roblox executable or DLL that was blocked around the time the error began.
- Update the security product before making a decision about the detection.
If you can confirm that the file belongs to the official Roblox installation and the detection is a false positive, use the security product’s normal Restore, Allow, or trusted-application control. If you cannot verify the file, leave it quarantined and contact the security vendor or Roblox Support. Never replace a quarantined file with one downloaded from an unknown DLL website.

In Windows Security, open Firewall & network protection and review Allow an app through firewall. Third-party security products may have their own application-control screen. Permit only the official Roblox application if it is blocked and the network permission is appropriate for your setup.
Do not permanently disable antivirus, Windows Security, or the firewall, and do not create a broad exclusion for the entire C: drive or all of AppData. A narrow, temporary exception for a confirmed official Roblox path is safer than a system-wide exclusion. Remove any temporary exception after testing.
4. Repair Windows component and protected-file corruption
If reinstalling Roblox and checking security software did not help—or if the error names a Windows component—use Microsoft’s built-in repair tools. DISM repairs the Windows component store; SFC then scans and repairs protected system files.
After those official steps, Outbyte PC Repair (affiliate link) can optionally scan Windows for possible abnormalities and show recommended repairs for your review; it is not a guaranteed fix for a Roblox DLL error.
Run DISM, then SFC
- Right-click the Start button and choose Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command and wait for it to finish:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealthWhen DISM completes, run:
sfc /scannow- Wait until SFC reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows, then test Roblox.
Do not close the window simply because progress appears to pause. Component repair can take time, especially on a system with damaged files or a slow connection.
What the SFC result means
- “Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations”: SFC found no protected-file problem. Continue with the relevant Roblox, security, runtime, or driver branch.
- “Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them”: Restart and test Roblox again.
- “Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them”: Save the result. Do not repeatedly run random repair commands. Windows Update repair, System Restore, a repair installation, or qualified support may be needed.
If DISM itself reports that source files cannot be found or the component store cannot be repaired, install pending Windows updates and retry only after the update process completes. If the problem persists, use Microsoft’s recovery options rather than downloading replacement system DLLs.

5. Follow the branch for the DLL named in the error
MFPlat.dll: check for Windows 10 or Windows 11 N
Windows N editions omit certain media-related technologies. If Roblox reports MFPlat.dll or another media component, first check your edition:
- Open Settings > System > About.
- Under Windows specifications, read the Edition field.
- If the edition ends in N, open Settings > Apps > Optional features.
- Choose View features or Add an optional feature, depending on the Windows build.
- Search for Media Feature Pack, select it, and install it.
- Restart Windows and test Roblox.
Install the Media Feature Pack only when the PC is running a compatible N edition or the error specifically points to the missing media components. It is not a general DLL repair for ordinary Windows editions, and it does not justify downloading MFPlat.dll separately.
MSVCP*.dll or VCRUNTIME*.dll: repair the Visual C++ runtime
Names such as MSVCP140.dll, VCRUNTIME140.dll, or related Microsoft Visual C++ runtime files usually indicate that an application depends on a Visual C++ Redistributable package that is missing, damaged, or incompatible.
Use Microsoft’s supported Visual C++ Redistributable package rather than downloading an individual DLL. Match the package architecture to the application. A 64-bit Windows installation can still need the x86 runtime for a 32-bit application, so do not choose solely based on the Windows architecture. If the installer offers Repair, use it for an existing damaged installation; otherwise install the supported package required by the application.
Restart Windows after repairing or installing the runtime. If Roblox still reports the same file, run DISM and SFC as described above and confirm that antivirus software did not quarantine the runtime or Roblox files.
urlmon.dll or another Windows DLL: repair Windows instead of replacing the file
urlmon.dll is a Windows component. Do not download it individually or copy it from another computer, because the file must match the Windows component version and its dependencies. Install pending Windows updates, run DISM followed by SFC, restart, and then reinstall Roblox if necessary.

The same general rule applies to an unfamiliar Windows DLL: identify which Windows feature or Microsoft runtime owns it, then repair that component through Windows or its official vendor. A DLL download site does not establish that the file is safe, current, or compatible with your installation.
Graphics-related crashes or compatibility failures
If the message appears alongside a graphics crash, blank Roblox window, or compatibility failure, install pending Windows updates and update the graphics driver from the official support page for your hardware:

- AMD for an AMD GPU.
- Intel for Intel graphics.
- Your computer manufacturer for a laptop or prebuilt PC when its driver package is customized.
Restart after installing the driver. Avoid third-party driver sites and driver “booster” utilities. If the error started immediately after a driver update, record that fact for support and use the manufacturer’s supported rollback option only if the driver package provides one.
6. Isolate third-party software with a clean boot
If Roblox works after a Windows clean boot—or the error disappears when a background service is not running—another program is probably interfering. That does not prove which program is responsible. Common possibilities include unofficial Roblox clients, injectors, overlays, auto-clickers, capture tools, launchers, and security products, but the error and test results must identify the actual conflict.
Perform a cautious clean boot
- Press Win+R, type
msconfig, and press Enter. - Open the Services tab.
- Check Hide all Microsoft services. Do not disable Microsoft services blindly.
- Choose Disable all, then select Apply.
- Open the Startup tab and choose Open Task Manager.
- Disable nonessential startup entries in Task Manager.
- Restart Windows and test Roblox.
If the DLL error disappears, restore services and startup entries in groups, restarting and testing between groups. This binary-search approach is faster and safer than changing everything at once. When you identify the conflict, update, uninstall, or reconfigure that software through its own official support process. Return Windows to normal startup after testing.
Safe Mode can also help isolate a background conflict, but Roblox may not launch normally there because Safe Mode loads a limited set of drivers and services. A clean boot is generally the more useful test for a game-launch problem.
7. If the error still remains, escalate with evidence
Contact Roblox Support when the official reinstall, security review, Windows repair, and relevant DLL branch do not resolve the error. Include:
- The exact DLL name and complete error text.
- The error code.
- Windows edition, version, and build.
- Whether Roblox came from the website or the Microsoft Store, including whether the Store version is Roblox – Windows.
- Whether a reinstall changed the message.
- The final DISM and SFC results.
- Any antivirus quarantine, protection-history, or firewall-blocking details.
- Recent Windows, graphics-driver, security-software, or game-tool changes.
- The result of any clean-boot test.
Take screenshots of error messages and keep command results intact. Avoid sending passwords, authentication codes, or unrelated personal files. If Windows itself is unstable, crashing, or unable to repair protected files, use Microsoft’s recovery options or a qualified technician rather than continuing to replace files manually.

Last resort: Windows recovery or installation media
Windows recovery is not a direct Roblox DLL fix. Consider it only after the official Roblox reinstall, security review, DISM, SFC, and the DLL-specific branch have failed—or when Windows has broader corruption or instability.
Before using Reset this PC, a repair installation, or a clean installation, back up important documents, game saves, photos, browser data, and authentication-recovery information. Recovery choices can remove applications, settings, and—depending on the option—personal data.

If you need to create official Windows installation or recovery media, Microsoft specifies a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of storage. 8GB USB flash drive for Windows recovery is a task-enabling item for that advanced step, not a Roblox repair product.

DLL fixes to avoid
- Individual DLL download sites: The file may be malicious, mismatched, outdated, or missing its dependencies.
- Copying files into System32: This can damage Windows or create an incompatible mixture of versions.
- Registry cleaners: They do not provide a guaranteed repair for Roblox library errors and can remove useful configuration.
- Permanent antivirus deactivation: It removes protection while leaving the underlying installation or compatibility problem unresolved.
- Modified Roblox clients, injectors, and unofficial launchers: They can interfere with Roblox, trigger security detections, and make support diagnosis harder.
- Reinstalling Windows immediately: Try the less destructive Roblox reinstall, security review, DISM, SFC, and relevant runtime or Windows-feature repair first.

Can I download the missing Roblox DLL from the internet?

Do I need the Media Feature Pack for Roblox?
