Roblox now distinguishes between the older Microsoft Store app named Roblox and the newer app named Roblox – Windows. They are separate installation paths, so identifying which one is installed is an important first step.

- Check Roblox Status, especially Player, Games, Game Join, and Website.
- Confirm that the installed app is Roblox – Windows, not the legacy Store app named Roblox.
- End any stuck Roblox process and restart Windows.
- Install Windows and Microsoft Store updates.
- Use Windows’ Repair option for Roblox, followed by Reset if necessary.
- Run
wsreset.exeto reset the Microsoft Store cache. - Uninstall and reinstall Roblox – Windows.
- If required, delete the leftover
%localappdata%Robloxfolder and reinstall. - Check antivirus, firewall, overlays, VPNs, and other third-party software.
- Try Roblox’s official desktop client and repair Windows files if both clients fail.
First, identify the failure
The correct fix depends on what happens when you start Roblox:
- Nothing happens or the splash screen disappears: focus on the app package, cached data, Store installation, or blocked processes.
- The app opens to a blank or frozen screen: update, repair, reset, and check security or overlay software.
- A code such as
0x80040904or0x8027035bappears: treat it as a launch or package symptom rather than assuming one universal cause. - “Failed to load library” or a missing DLL appears: follow the clean-reinstall and Windows-system-file steps below.
- Roblox opens but cannot join an experience: this is usually a connection, browser, firewall, network, or experience-specific problem—not necessarily a Store launch failure.
- The Microsoft Store itself will not open: repair the Store and run
wsreset.exebefore reinstalling Roblox.
1. Check whether Roblox is down
Open the Roblox Status page and check Player, Games, Game Join, and Website. If several components show an incident, wait for service restoration instead of repeatedly reinstalling the app.

The status page was reporting those services as operational on August 18, 2026, but availability changes. An operational status page makes a broad outage less likely; it does not prove that your individual Windows installation is healthy.
2. Confirm you have the current Microsoft Store app
Roblox identifies the newer Microsoft Store application as Roblox – Windows, with a blue icon. The older Store application is named simply Roblox and has a light gray icon. The old app is not automatically the cause of every launch problem, but it is easy to launch the wrong installation when both remain on the PC.

- Open Start and search for Roblox.
- Right-click the result and select App settings.
- Check whether the name is Roblox – Windows or simply Roblox.
- If the legacy app is installed, uninstall it and install Roblox – Windows from the Microsoft Store version recommended by Roblox.
After reinstalling, launch Roblox from the Microsoft Store or the Start menu before testing a website link. This avoids troubleshooting a stale shortcut or the wrong client.
3. Close Roblox completely and restart Windows
- Close every visible Roblox window.
- Press
Ctrl + Shift + Escto open Task Manager. - Look for Roblox-related processes.
- Select any process that remains stuck and choose End task.
- Restart the computer.
- Try launching Roblox again.
A hidden or hung process can prevent a second launch. Roblox also recommends restarting before reinstalling its software.
4. Update Windows, Microsoft Store, and Roblox
Windows 11
Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates. Install available updates and restart.
Windows 10
Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates. Install available updates and restart.

- Open Microsoft Store.
- Select Library.
- Select Get updates.
- Allow Store and Roblox updates to finish.
- Restart Windows and test Roblox.
Microsoft’s recommended Store-app troubleshooting sequence includes updating Windows and Store apps, repairing or resetting the app, and reinstalling it.
5. Repair Roblox, then reset it
Try Repair before Reset. Repair is the lower-risk option and attempts to fix the installation without removing as much stored app data. Reset is more aggressive and may clear local app data or settings.

Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Roblox or Roblox – Windows.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the app.
- Select Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows and launch Roblox.
If Repair does not help, return to Advanced options, select Reset, confirm, and test the app again.
Windows 10
The equivalent path on many Windows 10 installations is Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Roblox > Advanced options. Select Repair first, then Reset if needed.
6. Reset the Microsoft Store cache
Use this step when the Store will not open, Roblox will not update, or the Store installation appears corrupted.
- Press
Win + R. - Enter
wsreset.exe. - Select OK.
- Wait while a blank Command Prompt window appears and closes. Microsoft Store may open automatically.
- Restart Windows.
- Try updating or reinstalling Roblox.
wsreset.exe resets the Microsoft Store cache. It does not necessarily delete Roblox’s own local files.
7. Uninstall and reinstall Roblox – Windows
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Roblox.
- Uninstall the failed Roblox Store entry. If both the old and new Store apps are present, remove the obsolete or unwanted entry as well.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Search for Roblox – Windows and install it.
- Launch it from Start or Microsoft Store before testing browser links.
Reinstalling replaces damaged or deleted application files. It should not delete your Roblox account, Robux, inventory, or experience progress because those are associated with your online account. You may need to sign in again, and local settings or cached files may not survive a reset or clean reinstall.
8. Perform a clean reinstall if normal reinstalling fails
Use this only after uninstalling and reinstalling the Store app normally.

- Uninstall Roblox.
- Restart Windows.
- Press
Win + R. - Enter
%localappdata%and select OK. - Find the Roblox folder and delete it.
- Restart Windows again.
- Install Roblox – Windows from Microsoft Store.
The folder is normally located at C:Users<Your Windows Username>AppDataLocalRoblox. Removing it deletes local client files and may require Roblox to redownload data or request another sign-in; it does not delete your online Roblox account.
Do not take ownership of protected Windows folders, change registry permissions, delete unrelated AppX packages, or download individual DLL files from third-party websites.

9. Compare the Store app with Roblox’s official desktop client
If Roblox – Windows still will not launch, install the official desktop client from Roblox’s website. Conversely, test the Store version if the desktop client fails. Use only the official Roblox website or Microsoft Store.
This comparison helps identify the failing layer:

The two clients are not necessarily identical in packaging, updating, or launch behavior. A successful test in one does not prove that the other installation is fixed. If you keep both installed, remove the one you do not intend to use to avoid stale shortcuts and confusing website handoffs.
10. Check antivirus, firewall, and conflicting software
Security and system utilities can quarantine Roblox files, block its connections, or interfere with its process. Check:
- Windows Security: review Protection history.
- Third-party antivirus: check quarantine and blocked applications.
- Firewall: verify that Roblox is not blocked.
- VPNs and filtering tools: temporarily test without them, especially on school or work networks.
- Overlays and recording tools: close game overlays, screen recorders, injectors, performance tuners, and hardware-monitoring utilities.
- Parental controls: check whether they block the app or Roblox domains.
If security software quarantined a file, update the security product and verify that Roblox came from the official website or Microsoft Store before restoring or narrowly allowing it. Do not permanently disable antivirus protection.
Use a clean boot for an incompatible-software warning
- Press
Win + R, entermsconfig, and select OK. - Open the Services tab.
- Check Hide all Microsoft services.
- Select Disable all.
- Open the Startup tab and select Open Task Manager.
- Disable startup items.
- Restart and test Roblox.
If Roblox works after the clean boot, re-enable services and startup items in groups to find the conflict. Update or remove the named incompatible software, then restore normal Windows startup settings. Do not leave all non-Microsoft services disabled.

Use Windows system repair when Roblox reports “Failed to load library”, names a missing DLL such as MFPlat.dll or urlmon.dll, reports corrupt critical system files, or began failing after a Windows update.
- Open Windows Terminal, Command Prompt, or PowerShell as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth- After DISM completes, run:
sfc /scannow- Restart Windows and test Roblox.
DISM and SFC repair Windows components; they are not guaranteed Roblox-specific fixes. Also update Windows and your graphics driver from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel.
Windows N editions
Windows N editions may lack multimedia components required by some applications. Check your Windows edition and, if the error identifies a media-related DLL, install the Media Feature Pack that matches your exact Windows version from Microsoft. Never replace the DLL by downloading it from an unofficial site.

12. Verify Windows and hardware compatibility
Roblox’s published requirements include:
- 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- DirectX 10 or higher feature-level support.
- At least 1 GB of RAM recommended.
- Approximately 300 MB of storage recommended for installation.
- A supported modern browser—Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge—for website-based launching.
Check Settings > System > About for your Windows edition, version, and system type. Run dxdiag to inspect DirectX and graphics details, and make sure enough storage is available.
These requirements indicate basic compatibility, not guaranteed frame rates or compatibility with every experience. Roblox also notes that older AMD processors can have problems and that newly released or pre-release Windows versions may not be immediately supported. Treat Windows Insider or unusual preview builds as a possible compatibility factor rather than proof of incompatibility.

What to do for common errors
“Failed to load library”
Perform a clean reinstall, delete %localappdata%Roblox, run DISM and SFC, update Windows and graphics drivers, check antivirus quarantine, check for Windows N, and test the alternative official Roblox client.
0x80131500 or Microsoft Store will not open
Run wsreset.exe, install Windows updates, update Microsoft Store, repair or reset Microsoft Store through its Advanced options, reboot, and reinstall Roblox.
0x80040904 or 0x8027035b
Confirm that the app is Roblox – Windows, update Microsoft Store, repair or reset Roblox, run wsreset.exe, reinstall the app, and try the official desktop client. These codes should not be assigned one universal cause without a current Roblox or Microsoft explanation.
Roblox opens but cannot join a game
Check Roblox Status, test your connection, review firewall and antivirus rules, and check whether the issue affects one experience or every experience. Escalate when both official clients fail after a clean reinstall, a specific DLL or boot-integrity error remains after Windows repair, Microsoft Store cannot install other apps, Windows is unstable, the issue affects a managed school or work computer, or the problem began after an update and affects other applications.
Include the exact error message or code, Windows edition and version, whether the system is 64-bit, the Roblox app name and version, whether the desktop client works, your security or overlay software, and every troubleshooting step you already tried. This gives Support a useful reproduction path instead of only “Roblox will not open.”
