After that, check regional and platform availability, microphone permissions, mute controls, and account restrictions—in that order. A headset cannot fix a missing age check, regional limitation, or account restriction.
1. Check age eligibility and account verification
Roblox Voice Chat is for users who are at least 13 and have completed an age check using ID verification or Facial Age Estimation. Phone verification alone does not unlock the feature: Roblox states that “Phone verification is not a valid method to gain access to Voice Chat following these updates.” See Roblox Support’s Voice Chat setup instructions and its age-check guidance.
- If you are under 13, Voice Chat is not available to your account.
- If you are 13 or older but have not completed an accepted age check, complete one before troubleshooting the microphone.
- If the age check is complete, continue to the settings and availability checks below.
2. Turn Voice Chat on and join from the experience
Voice Chat must be enabled, and the experience you are playing must support it. In a supported experience, use the headphone icon to join or look for the Voice Chat control in the experience settings. Controls can differ by platform; on PlayStation, Roblox directs users to join Voice through the in-experience settings.
Roblox’s setup instructions explain how to enable the feature, while its Voice Chat guidance notes that not every experience supports it. If the icon is absent in one experience, try a different experience that lists Voice Chat support before changing device settings.

3. If the toggle or join icon is missing, check region availability
A missing control after age verification does not necessarily mean your microphone is broken. Roblox says that if the join voice icon does not appear after ID verification or Facial Age Estimation, Voice Chat may not be available in your region. See Roblox’s regional availability note. If the feature is unavailable where you are, changing headsets or reinstalling Roblox will not make the control appear.
4. Confirm Voice Chat is supported on your platform
Roblox lists Voice Chat availability on desktop, mobile, VR, PlayStation, and Xbox in its Voice FAQ. The join method can vary: PlayStation users join through in-experience settings, rather than relying on the same control shown in desktop or mobile instructions. Check the platform-specific in-game controls if you are eligible but cannot find the usual headphone icon.

5. Fix a connected-but-silent microphone
If you can join voice but nobody hears you, check both the Roblox mute state and the device’s microphone access. Roblox documents controls to mute or unmute in the experience and on the device; a microphone can be muted in one place while appearing active in another. Its Voice Chat instructions cover the in-experience controls.
- Unmute the microphone in Roblox and check the experience’s voice controls.
- Check your computer, phone, or console privacy settings and allow Roblox to access the microphone.
- Select the intended input device if more than one microphone is connected, then test again in the experience.
- If the built-in microphone is unavailable or unreliable, try another working microphone, such as a USB headset. This can help with an input-device problem, but not eligibility or availability issues.
6. Check privacy, age-group, and moderation restrictions
Roblox communication access is also governed by age-group, privacy, and moderation controls. If you have passed the age check and the microphone works in other apps but Voice Chat remains unavailable, review your account’s communication and privacy settings and check for any moderation action. Roblox’s Community Standards describe platform rules relevant to communication.

7. Contact Roblox Support if the checks do not resolve it
If you are age-checked, the region and experience support Voice Chat, and the microphone is permitted and unmuted, contact Roblox Support. Include the platform, Roblox app version, experience name, whether the join icon is missing or connection fails, and any error text. This helps distinguish an account or availability problem from an input or connection symptom; Roblox does not publish one universal fix for every Voice Chat failure.
