If GTA Online says “Your save data could not be loaded from the Rockstar cloud servers at this time,” Rockstar says the game is having trouble retrieving your latest GTA Online character save data. The error may clear on its own; if it persists, use the troubleshooting steps for your platform below. These steps come from Rockstar’s support guidance for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
First, understand what the error means
The alert does not by itself prove that your character has been deleted or corrupted. Rockstar describes it as an issue retrieving the latest GTA Online character save data and says it should resolve on its own. Its support instructions do not give a guaranteed recovery time, so there is no specific wait period that can be promised to fix it.
Try the procedure for the platform you play on. The PC, PlayStation, and Xbox steps are different; do not substitute one platform’s procedure for another.
Fix the error on PC
- Check cloud saves. Open Rockstar Games Launcher Settings and check the Grand Theft Auto V installed-game settings to confirm cloud saves are enabled.
- Delete the local launcher profile only if the error continues. In the launcher, open Settings > Account information. Choose Delete next to Delete local profile, confirm, sign back into the launcher, and start the game. Rockstar says this removes local profile details from the device and requires you to sign in again; it does not delete your Rockstar account or saved games.
- Verify the game files. In Rockstar Games Launcher, open Settings, select Grand Theft Auto V under My installed games, and choose Verify Integrity. If you installed the game through Steam or Epic Games Launcher, use that store’s game-file verification procedure instead.

Fix the error on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5
Rockstar’s PlayStation procedure deletes GTA V game data, not save files. Check the selection carefully before confirming deletion.

- Open Settings > Application Saved Data Management.
- Select the storage location you use: System Storage, Online Storage, or USB Storage.
- Choose Delete, then select Grand Theft Auto V.
- Select the game data files, not save files, then delete and confirm.
- Restart the game while holding L1 + R1.

Fix the error on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S
Rockstar recommends clearing the console’s system cache by fully shutting it down, then starting it again.
