If SMITE 2 multiplayer feels laggy on PC, first identify whether the problem is choppy frame rendering or a network symptom such as delayed actions, rubber-banding, packet loss, or disconnects. Then follow Hi-Rez’s general SMITE PC connection guidance: check your connection, restart your modem and router, test Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi, update network drivers, and close unnecessary background apps. These steps can help isolate the cause; they do not establish that a particular SMITE 2 server or outage is responsible.
First identify what “lag” looks like
Different symptoms point toward different parts of the setup. This is a practical way to organize troubleshooting, not a diagnosis of your particular match.
- Choppy animation or low frame rate: Start by checking local PC performance and whether your system meets the game’s minimum requirements.
- Actions register late, characters jump, or you rubber-band: Check the connection between your PC, home network, and game.
- Disconnects or an error message: Note the exact message and when it occurred; include it if you contact support.
- Several symptoms at once: Work through both local performance and connection checks rather than assuming one cause.
Steam lists SMITE 2 as supporting online PvP, online co-op, and cross-platform multiplayer. Its minimum PC specifications are 64-bit Windows 10, an Intel Core i5-9400F or AMD Ryzen 4500U processor, 8 GB RAM, an NVIDIA GTX 1630, AMD RX 6400, or Intel Arc A380 graphics card, and 30 GB of available storage. Meeting those minimums does not rule out a network problem; falling short could affect local performance. Steam’s SMITE 2 listing.
Try these connection checks in order
Hi-Rez’s PC troubleshooting guide is written for SMITE, not as a SMITE 2-specific diagnosis. It nevertheless gives practical connection steps for PC players. Change one thing at a time and compare similar sessions so you can tell whether a change helped.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
- Check that your internet connection is stable. If other devices or services are also having trouble, note that as you troubleshoot.
- Restart your modem and router. After they reconnect, launch the game and see whether the symptoms change.
- Test wired Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi. If you need to remain on Wi-Fi, Hi-Rez suggests changing the wireless broadcast channel if the current channel is crowded.
- Update your network drivers. Hi-Rez recommends getting updates from your motherboard or network-card manufacturer.
- Close unnecessary background apps. Streaming, downloads, other online games, and other programs can use bandwidth or system resources. Hi-Rez’s guide explains how to find resource-consuming processes in Task Manager and cautions against ending essential system processes.
These steps come from Hi-Rez’s “Troubleshooting Guide for PC,” dated October 31, 2024. The guide’s advice is general SMITE PC guidance; the available documentation does not confirm a specific SMITE 2 cause.
Use the results to narrow down the problem
A connection can be affected by congestion on your home network or farther along the internet path, as well as Wi-Fi interference, distance, or aging equipment. Latency (delay) and packet loss (data that fails to arrive) are distinct issues. These are general multiplayer networking factors, not confirmation of a SMITE 2 fault. Bungie’s network troubleshooting guide and Riot’s connection troubleshooting guide explain these concepts and discuss Ethernet as a way to investigate Wi-Fi interference.

- Ethernet helps: That points toward investigating Wi-Fi quality or interference, but it does not prove the game servers are healthy.
- Other games or services are affected too: A home-network or internet-provider issue becomes more plausible.
- Only SMITE 2 is affected: Record when and where it happens and what you tested; don’t assume the cause is a server issue.
- Several players are affected, or symptoms vary by time or region: Preserve those details and report them to support. The sources available here do not establish a current outage or widespread SMITE 2 server issue.
Contact Hi-Rez if the problem continues
Hi-Rez recommends submitting a support request if its troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, with a detailed description and any error messages. To make your report useful, include the approximate time, your region or server selection if known, whether you were using Wi-Fi or Ethernet, whether other games were affected, and which checks you tried. Those details help describe the issue; Hi-Rez does not list all of them as mandatory requirements in the cited guide.
