SnowRunner FPS drops, stuttering, or freezes can have different causes, so start with reversible checks rather than assuming a particular component is at fault. Compare your PC with the game’s published requirements, verify the installed files, reduce demanding graphics settings, and test drivers, mods, and background software one at a time. The steps below focus on Windows PC; Mac and console players should use the requirements and support options for their platform.
Check whether your PC meets SnowRunner’s requirements
First identify your platform and, on PC, whether you installed through Steam or Epic Games. Saber Interactive’s published requirements are a baseline, not a promise of a particular frame rate. Check Saber’s current PC and Mac requirements in case they change.

Meeting recommended specifications still does not establish what frame rate your particular system should achieve. If a component falls below minimum, or memory is consistently constrained, reduce settings before considering a hardware change; verify compatibility and the cause of the problem before buying anything.
Verify the game files and reduce graphics load
Missing or damaged installation files can affect performance. Verify the files through the launcher you use, then test whether lowering graphics load changes the symptom. SEGA Support recommends reducing detail and shadow settings, lowering resolution if needed, or trying windowed mode. Check NVIDIA or AMD utilities too: a profile there may override settings chosen inside the game.

Steam
- Open your Steam Library and right-click SnowRunner.
- Select Properties, then Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files and wait for Steam to finish.

Epic Games
- Open the Epic Games Launcher and select Library.
- Find SnowRunner and open its options menu.
- Select Manage, then Verify.

Test drivers, mods, and background software separately
Update Windows and your graphics driver using the official source from your device or GPU manufacturer. Change one thing at a time and check whether the same stutter, drop, or freeze returns; otherwise, you will not know which change mattered.
- Disable mods temporarily, then launch the game and test the same situation.
- Close suspected background utilities, especially software that overlays, captures, monitors, or controls graphics settings.
- If the problem disappears after a clean startup, re-enable startup applications one at a time to identify a conflict. Focus’s Steam support instructions describe selective startup troubleshooting.
Official guidance does not establish one background application as a universal cause, so treat this as an isolation test rather than a guaranteed fix.

Check available memory, VRAM, storage, and heat
System memory
While SnowRunner and your usual background applications are running, check how much system memory remains available. SEGA Support’s general PC guidance says that less than 1 GB of free system memory can lead to paging—when the computer swaps data to storage because it lacks available RAM—and repeated stutters. This is general guidance, not a SnowRunner-specific benchmark. Close unnecessary applications and test again before deciding that more RAM is needed.
Graphics memory
Higher resolutions and graphics settings use more VRAM. SEGA says a game may downgrade settings during loading if available video memory is insufficient, to avoid an out-of-memory crash. Lowering resolution can reduce VRAM demand; test it temporarily to see whether the symptom changes.

Storage and temperatures
SEGA recommends SSD or M.2 storage for faster loading times and advises checking drive health. That recommendation concerns loading; it does not establish an SSD as a general fix for FPS drops. On laptops, inadequate cooling can trigger CPU power limits, and running on battery may restrict power delivery. Play plugged in and check for heat-related limits. If checking temperatures requires opening the computer and you are not comfortable doing that, seek professional help.

Focus Support says SnowRunner may be unstable on some systems when the frame rate is very high and suggests enabling V-Sync in the game’s video settings. Treat this as a support suggestion for affected systems, not a guaranteed fix for every PC, game version, or storefront.

Escalate with useful details and protect your saves
If the issue persists after these checks, contact Saber Support and include the KSIVA game ID shown on SnowRunner’s home screen. Also describe your platform and storefront, when the symptom occurs, and which reversible tests changed it.
Do not delete configuration files or game data as an early troubleshooting step. SEGA warns that its clean reinstall procedure can delete save files, so preserve saves before attempting it. SEGA also notes that PC configurations and individual expectations vary; its performance advice is general guidance rather than a player-specific diagnosis.
