How to Fix “Sorry, We Can’t Show Game Pass Games Right Now” on Xbox

The message usually indicates that the Game Pass catalog view failed to load, not that your subscription or console is permanently broken. First check the Xbox service status page, then try Show all or My games & apps. If those paths also fail, test the network, restart the console, perform a full power cycle, and only then use Reset and keep my games & apps.

This sequence applies to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The wording has appeared during service incidents, after temporary console or network problems, and when the Game Pass tile fails while another route to the catalog still works.

What the error means

Sorry, we can’t show Game Pass games right now is a catalog-display error in the Xbox Game Pass experience. The console is failing to retrieve or render the library through the screen you selected. It does not, by itself, prove that your subscription has expired, that every Xbox service is offline, or that installed games have been deleted.

Reports cover both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. In one January 23, 2025 Series X report, selecting the Game Pass tile produced the message, but the user could still reach a Game Pass list through Show all. That distinction matters: a broken tile or menu route can coexist with a working catalog.

The available evidence does not identify one universal cause. A May 20, 2022 community report connected the wording with a known Xbox service issue. Other cases are consistent with a failed network request or a temporary local console state. Treat the message as a symptom and use the checks below to identify its scope.

Start by measuring the problem

Before changing settings, determine whether the failure is limited to one tile or affects the entire console. The result determines how aggressively you need to troubleshoot.

What you observe Most useful interpretation Next action
Only the Game Pass tile shows the message A navigation or catalog-display path may be failing. Choose Show all, then try My games & apps.
Show all opens a list, but the tile does not The catalog is reachable and the failure is probably limited to that tile or its current UI state. Use the working route temporarily, then restart the console.
Game Pass, Store, or other Xbox features also fail A broader service incident or connectivity problem is more likely. Check Xbox service status before resetting anything.
The network test fails The console cannot reliably reach Xbox networking. Resolve the connection problem and test again.
The network test passes but the catalog still fails Basic connectivity works, but the Game Pass catalog service or local UI can still be unhealthy. Restart, power-cycle, and consider a reset that keeps games and apps.

1. Check Xbox service status first

Open the official Xbox service-status page from a phone or computer, or use the status option available through Xbox support. Look for an incident affecting sign-in, Store, subscriptions, cloud services, or Game Pass.

This check comes first because a console reset cannot repair a server-side outage. The May 20, 2022 community report documented the same wording during a known service problem. If the status page reports an incident, leave the console settings unchanged and try again after Microsoft reports that service has recovered.

A green status page does not guarantee that every account or catalog request is healthy at that exact moment. It does, however, make a local network or console-state problem more plausible. There is no current incident number or restoration estimate established for this error; use the live status page rather than relying on an old outage report.

2. Try another route to the catalog

When the Game Pass tile fails, test the alternate paths before restarting:

  1. On the error dialog, select Show all if that option is displayed.
  2. Open My games & apps from the Xbox home interface and look for the Game Pass catalog or subscription view there.
  3. If one of these routes opens the library, launch games from that working path while you continue troubleshooting the tile.

TheWindowsClub documented cases in which My games & apps or Show all worked even though the Game Pass tile returned the error. A successful alternate route is valuable evidence: it shows that the console can reach at least part of the catalog and that the problem is not necessarily a complete Game Pass outage.

3. Test the Xbox network connection

Run the built-in test using this exact path:

  1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
  2. Choose Profile & system.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Open General, then Network settings.
  5. Choose Test network connection.

Read the result rather than assuming that being connected to Wi-Fi proves the catalog is available. A successful test confirms that the console can reach Xbox networking. It does not prove that the Game Pass catalog service itself is operating or that the particular tile has loaded correctly.

If the test fails

Keep the troubleshooting focused on connectivity. Re-run the test after the console reports a connection, and check the Xbox service-status page again. Do not jump directly to a console reset: resetting local software will not correct an unresolved network path or a service outage.

If the test succeeds

Proceed to a restart and, if necessary, a full power cycle. A passing test narrows the issue but does not eliminate a temporary catalog or UI failure.

4. Restart the console

Use the controller’s Power center to select the normal restart command. Wait for the console to shut down and boot back to the home screen, then try the Game Pass tile and the alternate catalog paths again.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A restart is the least disruptive local step. It refreshes the running Xbox interface without removing accounts, installed games, or applications. If the message disappears after restarting, no reset is needed.

  • Gaming Resolution: 1440p; Performance Target: Up to 120 FPS; HDMI Features: Auto Low Latency Mode, HDMI Variable Refresh Rate, AMD FreeSync.

5. Perform a full power cycle

If a normal restart changes nothing, clear the console’s powered-on state with a power cycle:

  1. Press and hold the physical Xbox button on the console for about 10 seconds, until the console turns off.
  2. Disconnect the power cable.
  3. Wait at least 30 to 60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cable.
  5. Turn the console on and test Game Pass again.

This procedure is more complete than selecting Restart, but it does not remove installed content or accounts. The waiting period matters because immediately reconnecting power may leave the same temporary state in place.

6. Reset while keeping games and apps

Use a reset only when the service-status check, alternate routes, network test, restart, and power cycle have not resolved the problem. The recommended option for the reported Series X case preserves installed games and applications:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open the Xbox guide and choose Profile & system.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Open System.
  4. Choose Console info.
  5. Select Reset console.
  6. Choose Reset and keep my games & apps.

Read the confirmation screen carefully and allow the process to finish without disconnecting power. This option reinstalls the console’s system state while retaining installed games and applications. It is not the same as a full wipe.

Prepare before resetting

  • Make sure you know the email address and password for every account you need to sign in again.
  • Keep the console connected to reliable power and, if possible, a stable network.
  • Expect accounts to be removed from the console during the reset. You will need to add them again afterward.

The community advice associated with the January 23, 2025 Series X report specifically recommends the keep-games-and-apps choice and warns that account sign-in information will be needed afterward.

Use the symptom pattern to choose the right fix

Only the tile is broken

If Show all or My games & apps opens the catalog and other Xbox functions work, use the working route and restart the console. There is no evidence that buying hardware, reinstalling every game, or replacing the console is necessary for this pattern.

Several Xbox features fail together

Check service status before touching console settings. A service incident can produce the same Game Pass wording and may affect Store, sign-in, or other features at the same time. Wait for restoration, then retest.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The console cannot pass the network test

Stay on the network branch. A catalog request cannot complete reliably until the console can reach Xbox networking. Once the test succeeds, retry the catalog before escalating to a reset.

The network passes, but every Game Pass route fails

Restart, then power-cycle. If the error remains after both, the keep-games-and-apps reset is the final local step supported by the available troubleshooting guidance.

What this message does—and does not—tell you

  • It identifies a failure to display or retrieve the Game Pass catalog through the current Xbox experience.
  • It does not establish that your subscription is invalid.
  • It does not establish that all Xbox services are down.
  • It does not establish that installed games or applications are damaged.
  • It does not provide a current outage duration or restoration estimate.

The wording has appeared in different circumstances, so one fix cannot be guaranteed for every console. Scope, navigation path, network-test result, and whether a restart changes the behavior are the useful diagnostic signals.

Timeline of documented reports

Date Documented detail Why it matters
May 20, 2022 A community report associated the message with a known Xbox service issue and directed users to the Xbox Live status page. Check for an outage before changing local settings.
February 8, 2023 TheWindowsClub troubleshooting coverage was updated. The article’s cases include Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S and describe alternate navigation paths.
January 23, 2025 A Series X user reported the message after selecting the Game Pass icon; the reported guidance included a reset that keeps games and apps. A recent case shows that the tile can fail independently and that accounts must be signed in again after reset.

Bottom line

Check the live Xbox service status first. If no outage explains the problem, select Show all or open My games & apps, run Test network connection, restart, and then power-cycle the console. Reserve Reset and keep my games & apps for a persistent failure, and have your account sign-in details ready because the reset removes accounts from the console.
