What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Match the fix to where the problem occurs: a download that will not start calls for connection, service, storage, or Ubisoft Connect checks; a stuck install calls for drive and file verification checks; and a game that returns to Play or closes needs launcher, account, hardware, or conflict troubleshooting. Start by confirming your PC meets the published requirements, then follow the section for your symptom.
Check the PC requirements first
Ubisoft’s PC listing sets the minimum target at 1080p, 30 FPS, Low preset, and Quality upscaling. That tier requires 16 GB of dual-channel RAM and a 65 GB SSD, alongside a Core i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600 CPU and a GTX 1660 6 GB, RX 5600 XT 6 GB, or Intel Arc A750 8 GB with ReBAR enabled. Ubisoft’s recommended tier targets 1080p/60 on High with Quality upscaling and lists a Core i5-10400 or Ryzen 5 5600X with an RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB or RX 6700 XT 12 GB. These are the published tiers on the Ubisoft Store PC listing, accessed October 7, 2026.
Compare your CPU, graphics card, memory, Windows/DirectX setup, and drive with the listing before changing launcher settings. If your storage drive is not an SSD or does not have enough free space, that may block installation; buying a drive will not fix an account mismatch, outage, or launch conflict. Check your PC or motherboard documentation for SSD form factor and interface compatibility before purchasing hardware.
If the download will not start
Ubisoft’s general guidance for the Ubisoft Connect PC error “Unable to start your download” recommends these checks. They apply to Ubisoft Connect generally, not only to Star Wars Outlaws.

- Check that your internet connection is working, then check Ubisoft’s download-error help page for the Help Live Feed link and any listed maintenance or service degradation.
- Confirm the selected install drive is an SSD with at least the 65 GB required by the Ubisoft PC listing. Leave additional room for launcher and system needs rather than trying to install at the drive’s exact capacity limit.
- Close Ubisoft Connect, then reopen it with administrator rights. Check for and install a Ubisoft Connect update before trying again.
- If the download still cannot start after those checks, use Ubisoft’s Connect reinstall guidance on the same help page. Avoid deleting unrelated game or cache folders manually.
If the download remains blocked, Ubisoft asks users to attach DxDiag and MSInfo reports when opening a support case. These reports provide support with system and configuration information.
If installation is stuck, incomplete, or reports damaged files
Steam installation
Steam’s Star Wars Outlaws listing specifies 65 GB of storage and requires an SSD. First confirm the library drive has enough free space and is an SSD. Ubisoft staff have also suggested repairing the Steam library storage folder and verifying the game’s files for some Steam install or launch problems; use Steam’s own library and file-verification controls rather than removing game files by hand.

Ubisoft Connect download cache
In a Ubisoft staff reply about Steam-related cases, the suggested cache test was to fully close Ubisoft Connect from the system tray, then clear the Steam and Ubisoft Connect download caches using the launchers’ own procedures. This is a targeted troubleshooting step, not a reason to delete arbitrary folders. Reopen the clients and let them rebuild or check their download data before retrying.
Epic Games Store
Ubisoft lists Epic Games Store among the PC distribution options, but the cited game-specific troubleshooting discussion addresses Steam and Ubisoft Connect rather than Epic’s repair interface. Use Epic’s built-in library verification or repair option if the Epic installation appears incomplete; do not apply Steam folder steps to an Epic library.

If Play opens a launcher and then returns to Play
On Steam, Ubisoft Connect is part of the launch chain: Steam lists it as a required third-party launcher and account. Check that Connect is installed, current, and signed into the Ubisoft account linked to the game. Ubisoft staff suggested trying to start the game directly from Ubisoft Connect and checking whether the license is associated with a different Ubisoft account.
Before unlinking or relinking accounts, confirm which Ubisoft account owns the license and that you can still access it. Ubisoft staff cautioned that changing the account link can affect how the game launches, especially if the player no longer has access to the other account. Do not unlink accounts as a first-line experiment.

Check graphics hardware selection
On systems with both integrated and dedicated graphics, confirm the game is assigned to the dedicated GPU. Ubisoft staff specifically advised: “Ensure you’re running the game on a dedicated GPU rather than an integrated GPU”. Compare your hardware with the published minimum tier before treating GPU selection as the only likely cause.

Isolate overlays, cloud sync, and security conflicts
Ubisoft staff have suggested testing whether a conflict is involved by temporarily disabling the Ubisoft Connect overlay or cloud synchronization, and by checking antivirus or firewall exceptions for the game and launcher. Change only the relevant setting for a test; do not turn off security software wholesale. Restore settings after testing if they are not the cause.
Some player reports discussed opting out of Steam Beta as a test. That is relevant only when using Steam and should be treated as an isolation step, not a confirmed fix.
Test drive placement only when relevant
Ubisoft staff noted that installing the launcher components and game on the same SSD can sometimes avoid drive-related conflicts. A later reply also said it can be worth trying Ubisoft Connect on the system drive with the game on another SSD. These are alternative experiments, not universal requirements; test one arrangement at a time if you suspect a drive-location issue.
When the usual checks do not work
Use the verification or repair option for your storefront, then contact Ubisoft Support if the failure persists. Include the exact symptom, storefront, error message (if any), launcher version, and whether the issue occurs before or after the Ubisoft Connect sign-in. Attach DxDiag and MSInfo reports, which Ubisoft requests for unresolved Ubisoft Connect download cases. Avoid unofficial executable downloads, generic cleaner or driver utilities, and operating-system reinstalls: the cited guidance does not establish them as fixes for these problems.
