There is no reliable evidence that Star Wars Outlaws runs faster or slower on Steam than through Ubisoft Connect. The available official information does not include a controlled, same-PC comparison of frame rates, stutter, load times, or stability. Steam purchases still require the Ubisoft Connect launcher and account, so choosing Steam does not remove that dependency.
Does Star Wars Outlaws perform better on Steam or Ubisoft Connect?
That has not been established. Ubisoft and Steam publish system requirements and feature information, but neither provides a current, controlled benchmark comparing both storefront versions on identical hardware and settings. There is no substantiated FPS advantage, loading-time winner, or stability advantage to cite.
This is not proof that the two versions perform identically. A meaningful comparison would need to hold the PC, drivers, game build, graphics settings, save location, background tasks, and shader-cache state constant, then measure average frame rate, 1% lows or frame times, load times, and crashes across both versions. Without that test, claims that one storefront is faster should be treated as unverified.
What changes when you buy the Steam version?
Steam’s product listing says the game requires a third-party Ubisoft Connect account and launcher, with Steam-account linking supported. Buying on Steam therefore does not let you bypass Ubisoft Connect. Ubisoft’s US store listing likewise says Ubisoft account and the Ubisoft Connect application are required for PC content.

The dependable difference is the storefront through which you buy and manage the game; the evidence here does not establish that the storefront changes game performance. Consider your preferred library and storefront policies, but do not choose Steam on the assumption that it removes Ubisoft’s launcher.
What Ubisoft’s PC targets say about performance
Ubisoft’s published targets describe expected hardware tiers and settings, not results from an independent benchmark. Each target uses a Quality upscaler setting; the figures should not be read as a guarantee for every PC or graphics configuration.

All four targets specify Windows 10/11 and DirectX 12. Steam’s listing also gives DirectX 12 and a 64-bit Windows requirement, and repeats the minimum and recommended tiers. Ubisoft’s Ultra-tier AMD GPU name is reproduced as published; verify that model label before using it to make a hardware decision.
Ubisoft lists ray-traced global illumination, reflections and shadows; NVIDIA RTX Dynamic Illumination; DLSS 3.5; Intel XeSS 1.3; AMD FSR 3.0; uncapped frame rates; and ultrawide and multi-monitor support. These are feature claims, not promises that every combination of hardware and settings will meet a particular frame rate.

What the dated update notes do—and do not—show
Ubisoft’s February 6, 2025 Title Update 1.5.1 notes label both the PC (Ubisoft Connect) and Steam packages as version 1.0.5.1, each with a 3.30GB update. Ubisoft said the update added support for NVIDIA 50-series GPUs, including DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation for RTX 50-series cards, faster single Frame Generation with reduced memory use for RTX 50- and 40-series cards, and updated transformer models for DLSS Ray Reconstruction, Super Resolution, and DLAA on GeForce RTX GPUs. That is a dated snapshot, not proof of current version parity or equal performance.
Ubisoft’s surfaced announcement feed gives different download sizes for Title Update 1.6—10.21GB for Ubisoft Connect and 8.5GB for Steam. Download-size differences alone do not establish a gameplay or performance difference; platform packaging can affect download size. The same feed describes PC Hotfix 5.3, dated April 3, 2025, as improving performance and stability for NVIDIA GPU users, but does not quantify the change or compare launchers.

How to decide between the storefronts
- Want to avoid Ubisoft Connect? Steam is not a workaround; its listing requires the Ubisoft launcher and account.
- Choosing based on frame rate or stutter? No controlled same-hardware comparison in the available evidence identifies a winner.
- Checking whether your PC meets the target? Compare your components with Ubisoft’s resolution and preset tiers, and remember that the listed FPS figures are publisher targets rather than a storefront comparison.
- Choosing based on price, refunds, achievements, or library preference? Check each storefront’s current terms and offer directly. The official information cited here does not establish current price or policy differences.
