Ascendance-specific PC performance and final system requirements have not been established in the sources currently available. The steps below are Capcom’s published troubleshooting guidance for the PC version of the base game, Monster Hunter Wilds. Apply them as diagnostic checks, not as guaranteed fixes, and check Ascendance’s official requirements and patch notes when they are published.
Check your PC against Monster Hunter Wilds’ listed requirements
Before changing settings, compare your PC with the base game’s Steam system requirements. The listing specifies 16 GB of system RAM, DirectX 12, 75 GB of free storage, and an SSD. Its example minimum GPUs are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 with 6 GB of VRAM or an AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT with 8 GB. Recommended examples are an RTX 2060 Super with 8 GB or a Radeon RX 6600 with 8 GB.
Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee a particular frame rate on every configuration. Steam lists a minimum target of 1080p/30 FPS using upscaling from 720p at the Lowest settings. Its recommended 1080p/60 FPS target assumes Medium settings and Frame Generation enabled. These are configuration-specific targets, not promises of native rendering or universal results.
If the game is on a hard drive, check that your PC supports the interface and form factor of a suitable SSD before considering a change; Steam lists an SSD as required. An SSD addresses the storage requirement, but it is not a general fix for every cause of stuttering.

Lower graphics load and test changes systematically
Capcom recommends setting Graphics Settings to Low or Medium when settings are contributing to an unstable frame rate. Make one adjustment at a time, note the original value, then compare performance in the same location or activity. This makes it easier to tell whether a change helped; Capcom does not publish a universal best setting or controlled comparison of fixes.
- If performance improves after lowering settings, keep adjusting only the options you need to balance image quality and smoothness.
- If there is no meaningful change, restore settings that did not help and move to checks for drivers, files, background applications, GPU selection, and heat.
Update drivers, Windows, and game files
Install current graphics drivers and Windows updates
Capcom warns that outdated graphics drivers can cause freezing and other problems. Update the driver using the supported guidance for your graphics card, install available Windows updates, and reboot. Capcom also recommends restarting after a clean graphics-driver installation. Avoid choosing a driver version solely because it is older or newer than another one; check the GPU vendor’s current guidance and any known issues for your card.

Verify the Steam installation
- In Steam, open the game’s Properties.
- Select Installed Files.
- Choose Verify integrity of game files and let Steam complete the check.
Capcom says verification can replace missing or corrupted downloads. It also notes that local configuration files may fail validation normally, so a validation warning for those files does not necessarily mean the game installation is damaged.
Delete shader caches only as a targeted check
If other checks have not resolved a stability problem, Capcom suggests deleting the game’s shader.cache and shader.cache2 files from the installation directory, if present. The game may need to rebuild shaders afterward, which can involve temporary compilation work. Cache deletion is a troubleshooting option, not a required first step for every frame-rate dip.

Compare performance without overlays or heavy background apps
Recording software, performance overlays, and other resource-heavy applications can affect performance or stability. Close them for a comparison run, then re-enable them one at a time if performance changes. This reversible test can help identify whether another application is adding load or causing a conflict.
Check GPU selection and laptop power
On a system with both integrated and discrete graphics, confirm that the game is assigned to the high-performance GPU. On a laptop, connect the charger and check the system’s power settings. The exact Windows menu names vary by OS build and hardware, so use the GPU maker’s or PC maker’s instructions for the settings available on your system.

Look for heat-related performance changes
If the frame rate gets worse as a session continues, check temperatures and cooling with tools approved by your PC or component maker. Capcom notes that overheating can make operation unstable and suggests improving ventilation, lowering graphics settings, or limiting the frame rate to reduce heat. The available guidance does not establish a single temperature threshold that applies to every PC.

Capcom states that the optional High Resolution Texture Pack requires at least 16 GB of graphics memory to install and warns that insufficient VRAM may cause instability regardless of the Texture Quality setting. If the issue began after installing the pack, Capcom’s stated remedy is to disable it in Steam under the game’s Properties → DLC list, then restart Steam. This check is most relevant when the timing matches the pack’s installation.

Report a reproducible problem to Capcom
If stuttering or frame drops persist, collect the details Capcom requests in its Official Monster Hunter Wilds Troubleshooting & Issue Reporting Thread. Include:
- CPU, GPU and VRAM, system RAM, operating system, graphics-driver version, and security software.
- Display details and region.
- Where and when the issue occurs, whether it happens constantly or only in particular modes or locations, and steps that reproduce it.
- A copy of the game’s
config.ini; after a crash, check whether aCrashReportfolder was created.
For Ascendance, the remaining uncertainty is version-specific: an interview published on September 22, 2026, quoted Monster Hunter series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto saying Capcom was applying lessons from Wilds’ launch and examining what PC performance requires across a variety of hardware. That development goal does not establish how the released expansion will perform or replace its eventual requirements and patch notes.
