Add other mods and graphics or window utilities back one at a time. This helps identify whether the failure comes from the game, the fix, or an interaction—without assuming one setting resolves every setup.
One important limitation: the available Steam Community guide is now marked removed and incompatible. Its TSFix and GeDoSaTo advice is historical and version-specific, so check the current Special K wiki instructions for your exact version before replacing files or changing system settings.
Why does Tales of Symphonia crash after installing TSFix?
A crash after installing a fix does not by itself identify the cause. It may be the base game, a TSFix installation or runtime issue, or a conflict with another mod, overlay, graphics wrapper, or borderless-window utility. Tales of Symphonia was released on PC through Steam on February 1, 2016; Steam lists DirectX 9 requirements, but those listing details do not establish compatibility with every current operating system or mod version. Record the setup before changing it
Write down the game build, operating system, TSFix or other mod version, how it was installed, and exactly when the failure occurs: at launch, while rendering, or after Alt+Tab. Version numbers in the archived guide—including 0.10.5 and 0.9.11—refer to its historical installation options, not a confirmed current release.

Isolate the cause in stages
- Run the unmodified game and note whether it crashes.
- Test with TSFix only. If it now crashes, focus on the fix installation and its documented prerequisites.
- If TSFix alone works, re-enable other mods and utilities one at a time, testing after each change. This can reveal an interaction without treating any one conflict as universal.
Does GeDoSaTo conflict with Tales of Symphonia mods?
The archived TSFix guide warns about GeDoSaTo conflicts, including its frame limiter used with Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode. The guide is not current documentation, so first test with GeDoSaTo disabled. If you need both tools, use the current instructions for your versions; the old guide’s settings are clues to isolate, not guaranteed fixes.
GeDoSaTo settings named in the archived guide
- Disable its frame limiter while testing; the guide specifically warns against combining that limiter with XP SP3 compatibility mode.
- Check its borderless feature, early Steam overlay, aspect-ratio correction, and built-in Tales of Symphonia plugin.
- The guide also discusses setting
ForceD3D9Ex=falseand loading D3D early. Change these only if the instructions for the GeDoSaTo and TSFix versions you use still call for it.
Other borderless-window utilities
The archived guide says TSFix’s AllowBackground option may be incompatible with other borderless-window software. If you use a separate window utility and the option is enabled, disable AllowBackground as an isolation test. The guide also recommends trying borderless mode to address long Alt+Tab delays or crashes, with AllowBackground turned off when changing modes; this is version-specific advice, not a promise that borderless mode fixes every crash.

How do I check the TSFix installation and runtime?
Compare your installation with the current project instructions before reinstalling or replacing files. The archived guide describes an installer that checks for the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 runtime and identifies missing runtime DLL messages as a reason to install that prerequisite. It also describes older SKIM64 installer handling and discourages manual extraction. Because those details may no longer match current releases, verify both the installer route and runtime requirement for your version before downloading or changing anything.
