What the 0x8007001f Game Pass error means
On PC, users have reported 0x8007001f when a Game Pass title will not install or when a download appears to finish and then fails. A February 16, 2023 Microsoft Q&A thread records this symptom for a PC Game Pass Ultimate subscriber. Participants tried removing Xbox entries, restarting, reinstalling through Microsoft Store, and applying Store updates, but the thread does not establish a single cause or a guaranteed cure.

That makes the code a symptom rather than a precise diagnosis. The affected component may be the Store cache, account entitlement, Xbox app installation, Gaming Services, or an interaction with the Windows build and installation drive. The error code alone does not tell you which one is responsible, and it is not a security verdict.

Check the spelling and the failure point
- Write down the complete code exactly as shown:
0x8007001f. - Record whether the failure occurs before the download starts, while data is downloading, or at finalization after the progress indicator reaches 100 percent.
- Note the game, Windows edition and build, Xbox app version, and the drive selected for installation. These details help Support identify whether the problem is specific to an app, a title, a service, or a device.
If the dialog shows a different code, follow the procedure for that code instead. In particular, do not assume that every Gaming Services error has the same remedy.

Retry the same game after each major step. If a step changes the error or the point at which it fails, record that change instead of repeating every earlier step.
1. Sign in with the account that owns Game Pass
Licensing is checked across the Xbox app and Microsoft Store. Microsoft Flight Simulator Support recommends using the same Microsoft account in both applications when resolving license or authentication problems. The same principle applies when a Game Pass entitlement is being validated for a PC installation.
- Open the Xbox app and select your profile picture.
- Check the signed-in email address and confirm that it is the account that purchased the subscription or receives the Game Pass entitlement.
- Open Microsoft Store, select the account icon, and verify that the identical account is active there.
- If the accounts differ, sign out of the Store and Xbox app, then sign back in with the entitlement-owning account.
- Close both apps completely and reopen Xbox before attempting the installation again.
Do not create a new Microsoft account merely to test the installation; doing so can remove the entitlement from the account being checked. If you use a family or shared PC, identify which account actually carries the subscription before changing anything.

2. Reset the Microsoft Store cache with wsreset.exe
wsreset.exe is Microsoft’s documented first repair for Microsoft Store installation problems. It clears the Store cache without requiring you to remove Windows components manually.
- Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
- Enter
wsreset.exe. - Select OK.
- A blank Command Prompt window opens. Leave it alone; Microsoft says it should close after about ten seconds, and Microsoft Store should open automatically.
- When Store opens, continue to the update step below rather than launching the game immediately.
If the blank window remains open for considerably longer, do not repeatedly launch additional copies. Wait once, then close it and restart Windows before trying the command again. A successful cache reset does not guarantee that 0x8007001f will disappear; it only repairs one plausible Store-side failure point.
3. Update Microsoft Store applications
After the cache reset, install every pending Store update. Xbox, Gaming Services, and related components can be delivered through Microsoft Store, so an outdated package can leave installation registration incomplete.
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Select Library (the label may appear as Library in current Store versions).
- Select Get updates or Check for updates.
- Allow Xbox, Gaming Services, Microsoft Store, and any other queued app updates to finish.
- Close Store, restart the PC, open Xbox, and retry the same title.
If Store reports that no updates are available, continue to Windows Update rather than repeatedly pressing the button. The absence of Store updates does not prove that the error is caused by hardware or by the game itself.

4. Install pending Windows updates and restart
Windows maintenance updates can include fixes required by Store and Gaming Services. This is a general maintenance measure consistent with Microsoft’s Store troubleshooting guidance, not a code-specific guarantee.
- Open Settings.
- Go to Windows Update (on some Windows 10 installations, this is under Update & Security > Windows Update).
- Select Check for updates and install all updates offered for your edition.
- Restart when Windows requests it. If several restarts are required, complete them all.
- After the final restart, open Microsoft Store first, then Xbox, and test the installation.
Write down the Windows build shown in Settings > System > About (or Settings > System > About > Windows specifications). The build is important if you later contact Support because Gaming Services behavior can differ between Windows versions.
5. Check whether Xbox services are disrupted
A service-side problem can prevent authentication, licensing, or download finalization even when your PC is configured correctly. Check the official Xbox service-status page before making invasive changes. Status information is volatile: a page that is healthy now may not describe the condition when the error first appeared.

- Record the time of the failure and any incident number displayed, so Support can correlate it with your account.
6. Reinstall Xbox-related entries (community-reported procedure)
Users in the Microsoft Q&A discussion reported uninstalling Xbox entries, restarting, and reinstalling through Microsoft Store. This is community guidance, not a guaranteed Microsoft fix for 0x8007001f. Use it only after the account, cache, Store-update, and Windows-update steps above.

- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Xbox-related entries that you can remove through the normal Windows uninstall control. Read each name carefully; do not remove unrelated Microsoft components.
- Uninstall the Xbox app and any clearly corresponding Xbox package that Windows permits you to remove. If Windows refuses removal or displays a different Gaming Services error, stop rather than forcing it.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Microsoft Store > Library, locate Xbox, and select Install (or Get).
- Launch Xbox, sign in with the same entitlement-owning account, and retry the Game Pass installation.
Removing and reinstalling the app can change local app settings. It does not transfer a subscription between Microsoft accounts, and it does not establish that the original failure was caused by the Xbox app. If the same code returns at the same stage, preserve the evidence rather than repeating the uninstall cycle.

Failure while the game is still queued
A queue-stage failure points you first toward sign-in, Store registration, or service availability. Recheck that Xbox and Store use the same account, run wsreset.exe, update Store apps, and check service status. Capture the exact wording shown beside the queue item.
Failure during downloading
For a mid-download failure, note the percentage reached, the time, and the selected installation drive. Finish Windows and Store updates before trying again. Avoid changing several drives or deleting app folders at once; doing so removes useful information about what changed.

When the progress bar reaches 100 percent and then reports 0x8007001f, the data transfer may have completed while registration, licensing, or Gaming Services finalization did not. The account check, Store cache reset, Store updates, and Xbox reinstall are the relevant documented or reported paths. A 100-percent display is not proof that every installation component completed successfully.

Do not confuse 0x8007001f with KB5004327 errors
Search results often surface Microsoft Knowledge Base article KB5004327 during Game Pass troubleshooting. That article addresses error codes 0x80073D26 and 0x8007139F, not 0x8007001f. Its documented resolution involved the June 11, 2021 out-of-band update KB5004476 for specified Windows 10 builds, with a workaround that removes and reinstalls Gaming Services.
Because the codes differ, do not apply KB5004327’s Gaming Services removal procedure merely because its title mentions Game Pass. First verify your complete code and Windows version. Use a registry or PowerShell repair only when an official Microsoft procedure explicitly matches that exact error and your Windows build. Deleting Gaming Services entries based on a search snippet can create a second problem and may leave the Store or Xbox app unable to install.
When manual steps have not worked
At this point, contact Microsoft or Xbox Support rather than escalating to undocumented scripts. Provide a concise record:

Support may request diagnostic logs. Follow only the collection instructions it provides for your Windows version; do not upload account credentials, subscription codes, or personal files to an unofficial forum. If a different error appears after an update or reinstall, report that new code instead of continuing to describe it as 0x8007001f.
