Its maintainer documents a fix for random mouse lockups when exiting menus on newer systems. The patch is for the classic PC game, not the Definitive Edition, and the correct ASI loader depends on where you own the game.
First, identify which PC version you have
SilentPatch supports the classic PC release, with individual fixes marked for particular editions. Its current GTA: San Andreas patch page lists Build 34.1 and was updated August 15, 2026. Check its current compatibility markings before installing: support for one edition does not mean every fix applies to all editions.

Install the documented fix for menu-related mouse lockups
If your mouse works in menus but stops controlling the camera after you return to gameplay—or locks up when you exit the pause menu—SilentPatch is the best-supported documented software remedy for the classic PC version. The maintainer says, “The mouse should not lock up randomly when exiting the menu on newer systems anymore.” That describes the targeted fix, not a guarantee for every installation.
- Confirm the edition. Determine whether you have classic version 1.0, classic Steam, classic Rockstar Games Launcher, or Definitive Edition. SilentPatch’s classic page does not cover Definitive Edition.
- Check compatibility on the patch page. Open SilentPatch for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and verify that the mouse fix and other intended fixes are marked for your edition.
- Choose the loader for your edition. Silent’s July 31, 2026 update, edited August 15, 2026, says version 1.0 and Steam players can use Silent’s ASI Loader, while Rockstar Games Launcher versions need Ultimate ASI Loader. See the maintainer’s 2026 update for the current instructions.
- Install using the maintainer’s instructions. Use the instructions for your edition and loader rather than mixing files or steps from different versions.
- Reopen the game and check the original symptom. Test mouse camera movement during gameplay and whether the mouse remains responsive after leaving a menu.
If the mouse still does not work
“Mouse not working” can mean different failures: clicks may not register in menus, the camera may not respond during play, or the mouse may become unresponsive after returning from the pause menu. Note which behavior you have, then check that your installed edition matches the patch and loader setup. If you use the Rockstar Games Launcher edition, verify that you followed the maintainer’s instruction to use Ultimate ASI Loader.

- Recheck the patch page’s edition markings; selected fixes may not apply to every release.
- Review the loader and installation instructions for your specific edition, especially if the game has other modifications.
- Do not treat a replacement mouse as the first fix. The documented remedy is game-side patch and loader software, not new hardware.
Rockstar’s current PC system requirements list Windows 10 64-bit and keyboard-and-mouse input. That establishes the stated requirements and supported input method; it does not establish that every legacy mouse issue is absent or that SilentPatch will work on every setup. The patch documentation does not publish a success rate or establish compatibility with every modded installation and operating environment.
