How to Fix the League of Legends “RADS Error: Could Not Connect to the HTTP Server”

The “RADS Error: Could not connect to the HTTP server” means the League of Legends client could not reach a server; it does not prove your firewall is the cause. Check Riot’s service status and your general internet connection first, then work through DNS and firewall settings using Riot’s current guidance. Avoid old file-edit fixes and do not leave your firewall disabled.

What the RADS HTTP server error means

The message “Could not connect to the HTTP server. Please check that your internet connection is enabled and that your firewall is not blocking access” describes a failed connection between the client and a server. It does not identify one definite cause. DNS trouble or a broader network connection problem may also be involved.

Start with service status and basic connectivity

1. Check Riot’s service status for League of Legends and your region. If Riot reports an incident, wait for service to recover before changing your PC’s network settings.
2. Open a few unrelated websites or services. If those also fail, troubleshoot your general internet connection first rather than treating this as a League-only problem.
3. If other services work, restart the League client. As a basic local connectivity check, you can also restart your computer and router, then try again. These restarts are general troubleshooting steps, not a guaranteed fix for this specific error.

Try a DNS change only if the issue persists

If the problem appears related to DNS, follow Riot Games Player Support’s public DNS setup guide. Riot says, “Changing to a public DNS server can increase your connection stability, speed, and reliability.” The guide was published May 15, 2026.

Choose one provider and record your current settings

Before changing DNS, note your existing settings so you can restore them. Riot’s guide lists these IPv4 options:

Use the pair from one provider rather than mixing providers. The same Riot guide also lists IPv6 alternatives and explains how to flush DNS on supported systems; follow its instructions for your operating system rather than guessing at a command or setting.

Retest and revert if necessary

Change one setting at a time, then test League again. Riot warns that some internet providers block third-party DNS servers. If changing DNS causes you to lose internet access, restore the settings you recorded.

Review firewall and security software rules

If League alone still cannot connect, check your firewall and security software against Riot’s current connection troubleshooting guidance. Use only the application exceptions and configuration Riot recommends for your setup. Do not permanently disable the firewall: doing so removes protection without establishing that the firewall caused this error.

Collect logs if the error remains

If the steps above do not resolve the connection failure, gather the logs requested by Riot and submit a support ticket. Riot’s Riot Repair Tool can help collect diagnostic information; support may also ask for client logs. Logs and details such as your region, network, and when the error occurs help support investigate without assuming a cause from the message alone.

Skip obsolete fixes from old posts

Older or unofficial guides may suggest editing System.cfg, hard-coding content-server settings, adding server IP addresses to the hosts file, or turning off firewall protection. These are not verified as current standard remedies for this error, so do not make them your first troubleshooting steps.

The Hextech Repair Tool is retired. Riot’s September 2024 notice says its final version remains available for limited features and directs players to newer troubleshooting resources. It is separate from Riot Repair Tool, which can be used to gather logs.
