If the LEGO app will not open, connect, or finish updating a figure, start with permissions and Bluetooth, then use the specific recovery steps for the error or display you see.
Start with app permissions and Bluetooth
- Check Bluetooth permission. If the LEGO Super Mario app is stuck on a Bluetooth permissions screen, make sure Bluetooth is enabled in your device settings, then close and relaunch the app.
- Allow Location Service if the app requests it. Enable Location Service for the app in device settings, then relaunch. LEGO says Amazon Kids devices do not have the required Location Service option and cannot run the app.
- Reset Bluetooth after a failed connection or update. Open your device’s Settings and Bluetooth controls, switch Bluetooth off, wait five seconds, then switch it back on. If the app still says the figure needs an update, tap Start and let the firmware update run again. Follow LEGO’s official troubleshooting instructions.
LEGO’s app guide also recommends checking whether the app is available to download from an official app store for your device. Finding it there is a useful compatibility check, though it does not guarantee an optimal experience.
Check whether your device meets LEGO’s requirements
LEGO lists the following minimum specifications for the LEGO Super Mario app. These are requirements, not a guarantee that every device meeting them will work equally well.

These minimums and LEGO’s compatibility caveat are listed in its LEGO Super Mario app device guide. LEGO says the range of devices is large and it can assure compatibility only for devices it actively tests internally; its tested-device list can change without notice. Meeting the listed minimums alone may not provide an optimal experience.

Fix “Something went wrong” when Try again fails
Use this factory-reset sequence for the specific case where the app shows “Something went wrong” and tapping Try again does not help. Keep this separate from an ordinary update retry.
- Restart the app.
- Remove the figure’s batteries, then reinsert them.
- Turn the figure on.
- Disconnect the figure from the app.
- Hold the figure’s Power and Bluetooth buttons together for ten seconds. LEGO says the figure will blink and show a device image on its belly.
- Reopen the app and connect the figure again.
Resolve a Bluetooth symbol or device image on the figure
A Bluetooth symbol stays on the figure
Connect the figure to the app and check for a firmware update. LEGO says updating usually resolves a persistent Bluetooth symbol. If it remains after the update, contact LEGO through its troubleshooting support page.

A device image appears on the figure
Update the figure’s firmware through the app. LEGO says the initial firmware includes only action bricks for the Starter Course, so the image can indicate that the figure needs an update.
Recover a figure showing WTM, ATM, or STM
LEGO identifies WTM, ATM, and STM as testing mode. Try its two suggested recovery routes:

- Turn the figure off, remove any clothing, then turn it on again.
- If the display remains in testing mode, turn the figure off. Hold Power and Bluetooth for about ten seconds, until its eyes blink. Open the app and run firmware restore.
If neither route resolves the display, contact LEGO support rather than assuming the figure is repaired.
Restore a static or broken-looking display
If a firmware update does not fix a static or broken-looking display, LEGO describes an in-app Restore your LEGO Mario, Restore your LEGO Luigi, or Restore your LEGO Peach function. Treat this as a separate, last-resort recovery procedure—not the factory reset above.

LEGO says restoration takes about 20–30 minutes. Keep the app open and the figure connected until the process finishes. If the display remains broken afterward, contact LEGO; the published guidance does not promise that a reset or restore will repair a hardware fault.

- The exact app error or figure display, including whether it shows WTM, ATM, STM, a Bluetooth symbol, or a device image.
- Whether the figure is Mario, Luigi, or Peach.
- Whether the problem began during a firmware update.
You can still play without the app
The app provides interactive building instructions, score tracking, and creative play challenges, but LEGO says its Super Mario sets can also be enjoyed without the app. Losing app access therefore does not necessarily prevent all play with the set.
