If Nintendo eShop will not open or load, first note the exact error message or code and check Nintendo’s network-status page. A service interruption can cause access problems, so do not assume the console is faulty or change network settings before checking. Then follow the troubleshooting steps that match what you see.
Start with the error message or code
Write down the full code or wording on screen. A timeout, white screen, “403 Forbidden,” and “This page cannot be displayed” can have different fixes. Nintendo’s guidance is code- and symptom-specific; use the matching support page below rather than treating every eShop problem alike.
Check whether Nintendo reports an outage
Visit Nintendo’s Network Maintenance Information / Operational Status to see whether maintenance or a service interruption is posted. Several eShop error codes can be associated with temporary service problems. If Nintendo reports a relevant interruption, wait for service to resume and try again; changing console settings is unlikely to resolve a service-side issue. A generic error alone does not confirm an outage.
If you see a timeout or one of the listed error codes
For 2813-9712, Nintendo describes a timeout or possible temporary outage. Codes 2813-0990 and 2813-9099 can also be linked to inactivity timeouts or temporary service problems, while 2813-9700 is associated with a temporary outage. Follow the instructions on the support page for the exact code. For these cases, Nintendo’s guidance includes returning to HOME and trying eShop again; the precise steps vary by code.

If eShop shows a white screen or “403 Forbidden”
Nintendo’s white-screen troubleshooting guide covers Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED. Its listed checks also address “403 Forbidden.” Try them in order, testing eShop again after each change so you can tell whether the problem is resolved.
- Reset the console cache. Clearing cache deletes saved passwords, cookies, history, and other web-related data on the console. If you rely on saved sign-ins, be ready to enter them again.
- Try manual DNS. If changing DNS does not help, restore the DNS setting to Automatic.
- Toggle Airplane Mode off and on. Test eShop after reconnecting.
- Power off and restart the console. Use the power options rather than only putting the console to sleep.
- Try a different wireless network, if one is available.
- Install the latest system update offered by the console.
- Test other devices on the same network. If they also cannot connect reliably, Nintendo advises contacting your internet service provider.
If the screen says “This page cannot be displayed”
Nintendo UK’s instructions for this message apply to the region covered by that support page. They recommend checking the system software, returning to HOME or restarting, clearing the affected user’s cache, temporarily removing an inserted microSD or microSD Express card, and running a connection test. Removing a card is a diagnostic step in this particular flow, not a general recommendation to replace it.

If the problem continues for an extended period and no relevant outage is posted, use the matching Nintendo support page to contact Nintendo Support. If multiple devices on your network also have unreliable internet, contact your internet service provider as Nintendo recommends for the white-screen troubleshooting flow. These checks help narrow down whether the issue is service-side, network-wide, or specific to the console; they do not diagnose every possible fault.
