What does “Persistence Read Complete” mean?
The phrase has appeared in EA community reports about disconnects and data-storage failures. EA does not publicly define this exact message or confirm one cause. The wording is consistent with a problem reading or synchronizing persistent account or session data, but that is an inference—not an official diagnosis.
Possible causes include an Apex or EA service interruption, a stale login session, an update issue, a connection problem, or damaged local game files. EA notes that some Apex problems have no listed error code and can occur after major updates or server problems. The message alone does not establish that your account is banned, your progress is lost, or your drive is failing.
Check whether Apex Legends or your platform is down
- Open EA’s server-status page and check Apex Legends.
- Check the service status for your platform: Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch.
- Check the official @PlayApex account for maintenance or incident notices.
If multiple players are affected, the error began just after an update, or a service is reporting problems, wait and check again later instead of reinstalling or changing network settings. A green status page cannot rule out every regional or intermittent issue.

Restart Apex and your platform
- Quit Apex completely; do not leave it suspended or running in the background.
- Restart your PC or console.
- Wait a few minutes before launching the game again, especially if you recently switched platforms or logged out and back in.
- Test whether you can reach the lobby before changing other settings.
A full restart clears a suspended game session and gives the platform a fresh connection. It will not resolve an ongoing EA-side outage.
Make sure Apex is fully updated
Check for a game update before attempting more involved troubleshooting. Menu labels can change with platform software updates.

Steam
Open Steam’s Library and select Apex Legends. If an update is queued or a download indicator appears on the game’s launch screen, let it finish before playing; Steam may download an update in the background.
Xbox
- Open My games & apps and select Apex Legends.
- Press the Menu button.
- Select Manage All, then Updates.
PlayStation
Use the console’s Check for Update option for Apex Legends. Restart the console once the update is complete. For cache troubleshooting, follow PlayStation’s current official support instructions; do not delete saved data as a routine fix.

Nintendo Switch
Check for an Apex update from the game’s software-options menu. Confirm that your Nintendo Switch Online access is active, then restart the Switch. If needed, use Nintendo’s current instructions to clear the console cache. EA includes these steps among its online connection troubleshooting guidance.
Repair or verify the game files on PC
EA app
- Open the EA app and select Library.
- Find Apex Legends and select the Manage icon (three dots on the game tile).
- Choose Repair and wait for it to finish.
- Restart Apex and test again.
This follows EA’s current repair instructions.
Steam
Use Steam’s built-in option to verify the integrity of Apex’s installed files. The exact wording and location may vary by Steam version; open the game’s properties in your Library and look for the installed-files verification option. File repair can address a damaged or incomplete local installation, such as after a failed update. It cannot repair an EA service outage or account-session problem.

Test your internet connection
Try another online game or website first. If those also have trouble, investigate the home connection; if they work normally and only Apex fails, an Apex-specific service or routing issue is still possible.
- Turn off your router, unplug it, wait about one minute, reconnect it, and allow it to come fully back online before testing Apex. EA recommends this for connection problems.
- If practical, connect the PC or console by Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi. A temporary test on another network can also help isolate a home-network issue; a mobile hotspot may incur data costs and can have unsuitable latency.
- Change only one network setting at a time. If you choose to test a different DNS provider, record your original DNS settings first so you can restore them. DNS changes affect name lookup; they do not repair account data and are unlikely to help during a widespread outage.

Check for a stuck EA Account session
If the error followed a platform switch, logout, or resume from standby, the session may not have closed cleanly. Fully quit the game and restart the platform, then wait several minutes before signing in again. EA advises waiting a few minutes for certain Apex errors involving an account that is still logged in on another device.
Make sure the platform is linked to the EA Account you normally use. If content appears to be missing, EA recommends checking that you are signed into the correct account and allowing for possible service delays; see its missing-content guidance. Do not unlink accounts as a quick experiment: it is unlikely to fix a temporary connection error and can affect account access or progression arrangements.
Reinstall only after the other steps fail
Reinstalling is a last resort if the game remains broken after updates and file repair. EA says Apex progress remains after reinstalling, but the download may take substantial time and bandwidth, and a reinstall will not fix a live server problem.
- Confirm the game is fully updated and, on PC, try Repair or file verification first.
- Make sure you can sign in to the correct EA Account before removing the game.
- Do not delete console or cloud save data as a supposed fix for this message.
When to contact EA
If the error continues after service checks, restarts, updates, and relevant local troubleshooting, report it through EA Help or the Apex technical-issues forum. EA’s error guide directs players to the forums when an error is not listed or its documented steps do not help.
