PxHlpa64.sys is usually an old PxEngine optical-disc driver installed by Roxio, Sonic, Panasonic or another licensed disc-burning application. Windows Core isolation may block it because the installed version is incompatible with Memory Integrity. The supported repair is to identify the program that owns the driver, uninstall or update that program, restart Windows, and then enable Memory Integrity again. Do not download a replacement SYS file or delete the driver while Windows is running.
What PxHlpa64.sys is and why Windows flags it
PxHlpa64.sys belongs to the PxEngine library. Corel describes PxEngine as a component used by Roxio products to burn optical discs, and notes that the technology is licensed to other disc-burning developers. Consequently, the filename does not prove that Roxio is installed or that Roxio is the current owner. Sonic, Panasonic disc-burning software, and some older Adobe Elements packages have also been associated with the driver.

The file is commonly stored at C:WindowsSystem32drivers. It is a kernel-mode driver, so Windows loads it as part of the storage and optical-disc software stack rather than as an ordinary desktop application. A normal-looking filename therefore does not make it safe to remove by hand.
Windows Security can list PxHlpa64.sys under Core isolation when Memory integrity is enabled or when Windows attempts to enable it. Corel’s support guidance, reviewed April 6, 2023, says the incompatible-driver entry means the installed driver version is outdated or otherwise incompatible with the security feature. The warning is not, by itself, proof of malware. It is a compatibility problem between an older driver and a Windows protection setting.

The same driver can appear in several different situations:
- A Core isolation warning appears, but Windows continues to start normally.
- A Windows upgrade rolls back after detecting an incompatible driver.
- A blue-screen error, restart loop or failed startup occurs after installing older disc-burning software.
- Memory Integrity remains off because Windows cannot accept the driver.
Those symptoms require different levels of urgency. A warning on a working desktop allows a planned uninstall. A crash or boot loop should be handled from Safe Mode or Windows Recovery Environment before attempting normal cleanup.
Before changing the driver: record the symptom and protect recovery options
Write down exactly what Windows reports. Capture the filename, any accompanying driver names (for example another Px*.sys or em*.sys file), and whether the issue is a warning, upgrade rollback, blue screen or boot failure. This record prevents you from removing the wrong application when more than one legacy filter is installed.
Back up important documents before uninstalling low-level software. Create a restore point if Windows can start, and make sure you know how to reach Windows Recovery Environment. If the computer is already unstable, use another computer to prepare recovery media and keep it available. Do not begin by editing service entries or deleting files from the drivers folder; a recovery path is more valuable than a quick but irreversible change.
Fix PxHlpa64.sys when Windows starts normally
1. Confirm the warning in Windows Security
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Device security.
- Open Core isolation details.
- Read the incompatible-driver list and record every filename shown. If PxHlpa64.sys is not listed, do not assume that a similarly named file is the same driver.
Memory Integrity is the switch that Windows is trying to protect. Leave it unchanged while you identify the owner; repeatedly toggling it does not update the driver.

Supported formats include CD-ROM/R/RW, DVD-ROM/R±RW/R±DL, and VCD. IMPORTANT: Not compatible with ChromeOS, smartphones, tablets, TVs, projectors, vehicles, or Blu-ray/4K discs. Please verify your device type before purchasing
2. Verify the file and its location
In File Explorer, open C:WindowsSystem32drivers and check whether PxHlpa64.sys exists. The path confirms that you are looking at the system driver named in the warning, but it does not identify which application registered it. Do not use a search-engine result to download another copy. Corel’s guidance does not publish a standalone PxHlpa64.sys download, and replacing a kernel driver with an unverified file can create a more serious startup problem.
3. Identify the application that installed it
Review Settings → Apps → Installed apps (or Apps and Features on older Windows builds) and also check Control Panel → Programs and Features. Look for disc-authoring or optical-drive utilities installed before the warning appeared. Possible owners include Roxio Creator, Roxio Easy CD and DVD Burning, Creator NXT, Sonic-branded disc software, Panasonic disc-burning software, and older Adobe Elements packages. The list is not exhaustive because PxEngine was licensed to other developers.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Use the installation date and the time the symptom began as clues, not as proof. If several candidates are present, remove one program at a time and restart before removing the next. That approach lets you identify the owner and avoids taking unrelated software out of service.
4. Uninstall or update the owning application
- Close the disc-burning program and any window that is using the optical drive.
- In the installed-app list, select the suspected application and choose Uninstall. Follow its own removal wizard; do not cancel halfway through a driver-removal stage.
- Restart Windows when the wizard requests it, even if the desktop appears to work without a restart.
- After the restart, check
C:WindowsSystem32driversand the Core isolation list again.
If you still need the application, check its developer for a current release or explicit Memory Integrity compatibility guidance before uninstalling permanently. Install only a version supplied through the developer’s normal support or download channel. If no compatible release exists and the legacy program is essential, Corel’s recommendation is to leave Memory Integrity off until a compatible version is available. That is a security trade-off: the disc-burning workflow may continue, but the Windows protection feature cannot protect against incompatible kernel drivers while disabled.
5. Turn Memory Integrity on again
When the owning application has been removed or updated, restart once more and return to Windows Security → Device security → Core isolation details. Turn Memory integrity on and restart if Windows asks. A successful change should remove PxHlpa64.sys from the incompatible-driver list. If Windows names a different Px or em*.sys file, treat that as a separate owner-identification task rather than deleting all similarly named files at once.

When more than one incompatible driver remains
Legacy optical-disc suites often install several filter components. Corel advises repeating the one-program-at-a-time uninstall check when another Px or em*.sys entry remains. Record the exact filename, review the applications still installed, remove the most likely owner, restart, and recheck Core isolation. Keep a written list of what was removed so that you can reinstall only the software that proves necessary.

Fixing crashes, blue screens and boot loops
A machine that crashes or cannot reach the desktop needs a recovery-first procedure. Microsoft describes a blue-screen error as a serious problem that causes Windows to stop or restart to protect data. PxHlpa64.sys may be named in a stop screen, but the filename alone does not establish that it is the only cause; a recently installed application, another filter driver or damaged system state may be involved.
Use Windows Recovery Environment
- From the sign-in screen, hold Shift while selecting Power → Restart. If Windows will not reach that screen, interrupt startup as it begins three times to invoke automatic recovery.
- Select Troubleshoot → Advanced options.
- Try System Restore and choose a restore point created before the disc-burning program, driver or Windows update was installed.
- If no suitable restore point exists, choose Startup Settings → Restart, then select Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, uninstall the recently added disc-burning application through the normal Apps or Programs and Features path.
- Restart normally and check whether the boot loop or crash has stopped.
If the failure began immediately after a Windows update, the recovery menu may also offer an option to uninstall the latest quality or feature update. Use that option only when the timing clearly connects the update to the failure, and keep the update history for later troubleshooting.
Preserve evidence before repeated repairs
Before clearing files or performing a reset, preserve minidumps and note the stop code. In a working session, review Event Viewer for entries at the time of the crash and run Windows Memory Diagnostic when memory corruption is suspected. These checks do not repair PxHlpa64.sys; they help distinguish a driver fault from failing hardware or a different system component.

If Windows can start long enough to create a dump, configure a kernel or small memory dump and keep the resulting files. Microsoft Learn’s supported analysis workflow uses Windows Debugger with symbols that match the installed Windows build and the command !analyze -v. The output can identify the module on the failing stack, but a blamed module is not automatically the original cause, so correlate it with the installation timeline and Event Viewer entries.
Use Driver Verifier only for a targeted diagnosis
Driver Verifier can deliberately stress drivers to expose faulty behavior, but Microsoft warns that it can cause additional crashes and can make a system unusable. If you use it, select only suspicious third-party or unsigned drivers rather than every driver in the system. Create a restore point first, know how to enter Safe Mode, and be prepared to disable verification from recovery if startup fails. Do not enable broad verification as a first repair step for a computer that is already unstable.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you delete PxHlpa64.sys?
Do not blindly delete or rename the file while Windows is running. PxHlpa64.sys can be registered as a storage-stack filter, and removing a registered component without removing the owning application can break disc-burning functions or contribute to a boot failure. File deletion also leaves the application’s registration and services behind, so it is not a complete uninstall.
The safer sequence is to identify the owner, uninstall or update that application, restart, and then verify the Core isolation status. If the file remains and the owner is unclear, use Safe Mode, System Restore or vendor support instead of forcing deletion. Keep recovery media available until Memory Integrity has been re-enabled and the system has completed several normal restarts.

| Situation | Best first action | Important trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Only a Core isolation warning; Windows is stable | Identify the listed file, locate the owning disc-burning application, uninstall or update it, restart, then enable Memory Integrity. | Removing a legacy suite may remove its disc-authoring features. |
| You still author optical discs and the application has a maintained release | Ask the developer for a Memory Integrity-compatible version and follow its upgrade path. | Compatibility depends on the developer’s current release; do not assume an old installer is compatible. |
| You still author discs but no compatible release exists | Keep the legacy software only if necessary and leave Memory Integrity off while seeking an alternative workflow. | The optical workflow remains available, but the Windows protection feature is disabled. |
| Windows crashes after installing the software | Enter Recovery Environment or Safe Mode, use System Restore or uninstall the recent application, and preserve dump files. | Recovery may remove other changes made after the restore point. |

Uninstall suspected programs one at a time, restarting and rechecking after each removal. | The process is slower but identifies each owner without indiscriminate deletion. |
| You no longer need optical-disc authoring | Uninstall the legacy disc-burning application and verify that the driver warning disappears. | Projects or custom settings stored inside that application may need to be exported first. |
An external USB DVD writer can be a practical replacement for an aging internal workflow, but it is a workflow change, not a repair for PxHlpa64.sys. The compatibility problem is resolved by removing or updating the software that registered the driver.

Common mistakes and how to recover
Downloading a “fresh” SYS file
Search results that offer individual driver downloads are not a supported source for this file. A different build may have the wrong signing, dependencies or storage-filter behavior. Cancel the download, run a security scan of anything already downloaded, and use the owning application’s installer or support channel instead.
Deleting the file before uninstalling the program
If you already deleted or renamed it and Windows now fails to start, enter Windows Recovery Environment and try System Restore. If no restore point is available, use Safe Mode to remove the associated application and then restart. Do not copy a random replacement file into the drivers folder.
Turning Memory Integrity off and forgetting it
Disabling Memory Integrity can hide the warning without correcting the incompatible driver. Treat it as a temporary compatibility measure for software you genuinely need. Recheck the Core isolation page after every application update and turn the feature back on as soon as a compatible release or replacement workflow is available.

A driver named in a stop screen is an important lead, not conclusive proof. Preserve the dump, check Event Viewer, run Windows Memory Diagnostic when appropriate, and compare the crash time with the installation of the disc-burning program. If analysis points elsewhere, follow that component’s repair path rather than repeatedly removing PxEngine files.
After the repair: verify the result
- Windows starts normally from a cold boot and from a restart.
PxHlpa64.sysis no longer listed under Core isolation details, or the remaining listed driver has been identified and addressed separately.- Memory Integrity can be enabled and remains enabled after the requested restart.
- The optical-drive functions you still need work, or you have confirmed that the removed application is no longer required.
- No new blue screens, restart loops or Event Viewer errors appear during normal use.
If any check fails, return to the last known-good restore point and document the exact application, update and driver names before trying another change. That record gives the software developer or a support technician enough information to provide a compatible release or a safer removal procedure.
For an optional shortcut after the manual steps, Outbyte PC Repair can address more than 100 common Windows issues, including broken system elements, invalid redirects and shared DLL problems, and it can clean temporary and cache files, check selected Windows settings and missing updates, and log application crashes. It complements an antivirus and does not replace one, results vary, and no tool repairs every crash.
The practical answer
PxHlpa64.sys is normally a legacy PxEngine optical-disc driver, not a generic Windows component. Windows flags it because the installed version is incompatible with Memory Integrity. Identify the application that installed it, uninstall or update that application, restart, and then enable Memory Integrity again. If the computer will not boot, use Recovery Environment or Safe Mode, preserve dumps and investigate the crash before making further changes. Avoid standalone driver downloads and manual deletion; the owning application’s supported uninstall or update path is the safest fix.
