There is no single universally confirmed fix, but this sequence covers the most commonly documented causes.
This guide is for Tour de France 2023 on Steam, application 2062690—not Pro Cycling Manager 2023.

Quick fixes to try first
- Restart Windows and Steam, then confirm that Steam has finished downloading any update for the game.
- Disconnect your controller and unnecessary USB devices. Launch with only a keyboard and mouse.
- Close Discord, GeForce Experience or NVIDIA App overlays, AMD Overlay, MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner, Xbox Game Bar, and similar background tools.
- Verify the game files in Steam using the procedure below.
- If the game starts without the controller, reconnect it after the splash screen or main menu appears.
1. Verify Tour de France 2023’s Steam files
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click Tour de France 2023 and choose Properties.
- Select Installed Files.
- Click Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for Steam to complete the check, restart Steam, and launch the game.
Older Nacon instructions may call this tab Local Files; it is the same general Steam repair function. If verification repeatedly detects damaged files, check free disk space, Steam’s download status, antivirus quarantine history, and the health of the installation drive before repeating the process.

2. Repair the missing legacy DirectX files
Windows 10 and Windows 11 can report that DirectX 12 is installed while an older game component is still missing. One documented Tour de France 2023 startup error involved d3dx11_43.dll. This does not mean DirectX 12 is incompatible with the game; it means that optional, side-by-side legacy runtime files may not be present.

Use Microsoft’s official DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010), not a website offering an individual DLL file.
- Download the June 2010 package from Microsoft.
- Run the downloaded executable.
- When prompted for an extraction location, use a temporary folder such as
C:TempDirectX. - Open the extracted folder and run
DXSETUP.exe. - Allow the installer to finish and restart Windows.
- Try launching the game again.
You can also try Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer. Neither package replaces your modern DirectX version; they install older compatibility components alongside it.
3. Repair Microsoft Visual C++
Broken or incomplete Microsoft Visual C++ runtime files can prevent a game from reaching its first menu. Download the official Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015–2022 x64.

- Run the installer.
- Choose Repair if that option is available; otherwise install it normally.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch Tour de France 2023 from Steam.
Do not replace individual runtime DLLs from third-party download sites.
4. Update or reinstall the graphics driver
Install the latest driver offered for your exact GPU and Windows version from the manufacturer, rather than using an unofficial driver-updater utility:
This is a sensible compatibility check, not a guaranteed Tour de France 2023 fix. If the crash began immediately after a driver update, try reverting to the previous stable driver or performing a clean driver installation.

Laptop checks
- Connect the laptop to AC power.
- Use Windows Graphics settings or the GPU control panel to assign Steam and
TDF.exeto the discrete GPU. - Install relevant chipset and graphics updates from the laptop manufacturer.
5. Test the controller and Steam Input
Controller initialization is an unusually relevant startup-crash branch for this game. Community reports describe successful launches after unplugging a controller, removing other USB devices, or disabling Steam Input. These are user reports, not guaranteed fixes.

- Launch the game with keyboard and mouse only.
- If it reaches the menu, exit and reconnect the controller.
- If the problem returns, open Steam Library, right-click the game, and choose Properties.
- Select Controller.
- Set the per-game override to Disable Steam Input.
- Relaunch the game.
If disabling Steam Input solves the issue, leave it disabled for this title and reconnect the controller only after startup. Updating controller firmware may also be worthwhile.
6. Close overlays and test security software
Overlays, monitoring utilities, antivirus, and firewalls can interfere with startup or device initialization. Perform a controlled test:

- Fully exit Discord, NVIDIA or AMD overlays, MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner, Xbox Game Bar, and similar tools.
- If you use third-party antivirus, pause its protection only long enough to test, and only if you understand the risk.
- If the game launches, re-enable protection and add the game executable to the security product’s allowlist instead of leaving protection disabled.
- Check whether your firewall or security software has blocked Steam or the game.
One community report attributed a startup problem to Riot Vanguard after closing it. That is an anecdote, not evidence that Vanguard generally causes Tour de France 2023 to crash. If you use Riot software, you can test with Vanguard closed or uninstalled, but understand that this may affect Riot games. Re-enable or reinstall protection after the test where appropriate.
7. Run TDF.exe as administrator
Administrator mode can help with permission or installation-folder access problems, but it is not automatically better and should not be combined with permanently disabling Windows security.
- In Steam Library, right-click Tour de France 2023 and select Properties.
- Choose Installed Files, then Browse.
- Locate
TDF.exe. - Right-click it and select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Enable Run this program as an administrator.
- Click Apply, then OK, and launch the game from Steam.
8. Clear Steam’s cache as an advanced fallback
Nacon’s related PC troubleshooting guidance documents clearing Steam’s cache, although this is not directly confirmed as a Tour de France 2023-specific fix. Use it only after the simpler steps.

- Exit Steam completely, including from the notification area.
- Open the Steam installation folder.
- Delete the
appcacheanddepotcachefolders. - Restart Steam and allow it to rebuild its cache.
- Verify the game files again.
Do not delete arbitrary folders or DLLs from the game directory. If the installation remains damaged, reinstalling the game—or moving it to a healthy drive—may be more appropriate than repeatedly verifying it.
Check the game’s baseline requirements
The readily available Steam requirements for the related Pro Cycling Manager 2023 listing provide a useful baseline, but they are not a guarantee for Tour de France 2023. Steam labels these specifications as subject to change.

Exceeding these figures does not rule out a missing runtime, input conflict, blocked executable, or game-specific compatibility bug. Likewise, other modern games running normally does not prove that this title’s startup path will work.

Stop changing multiple variables at once and prepare a useful support report. Record:
- Windows version and whether the PC is a laptop or desktop
- CPU, GPU, RAM, and laptop model if applicable
- Whether the failure occurs before the logo, at a black screen, or after reaching a menu
- The exact error text or crash-report message
- Whether file verification completed successfully
- DirectX and Visual C++ repair results
- Controller, Steam Input, overlay, antivirus, firewall, and Riot Vanguard test results
Submit the crash report when the game offers one. Then use the official support route shown on Steam; the related Nacon/Cyanide PC support page lists Steam’s technical support workflow and the address [email protected]. Confirm that the address is still accepting requests when you contact support.
A crash that survives file verification, runtime repair, driver work, peripheral removal, and even a clean Windows installation may indicate an unresolved game-side compatibility problem, although it does not prove one. At that point, a crash report containing complete hardware and software details is more useful than repeating generic driver advice.
